  1. "That seems easy. I was supposed to tell if Tam was real or not." Cricket rolled his eyes.
  2. You've just been listening this whole time? Cricket said. Of course she had. "Huh. How did you pass?"
  3. "What were others like?" Of course you did. he thought, rolling his eyes.
  4. "It's... complicated. There's a trial that you need to pass to get to them, and me and her know how to do it. If you do go, and you know the answer, you'll fail."
  5. "I guess I won't be going back to him though, since I failed the trial and already know what it is. Don't ask Tam about it, if you really want to go. It'll come back to bite you."
  6. "From what the Narrators said, he's some sort of smith who can make you powerful weapons to help you. I don't know much else about him." he shrugged. "Seemed like a good place to start." "Faceless aren't..." Perseus struggled for words. "They're not animals. They're smart, devious, calculating demons. I'm not sure if they'll be smart enough to stay away, or if they'll investigate. Let's hope it's the first."
  7. "I... don't know. I feel so torn and conflicted about everything, and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. In some ways it easier to distract myself with other things like this, but I know I'll need to end it sometime. I just don't know how, not after I failed with the Dreamsmith."
  8. "I'm... not sure." admitted Perseus. "Worth a shot though." "I just wanted to make sure." "I see...." he said, scribbling. "And you are..."
  9. Hi. You seem cool really? thanks Glass! You're awesome too!
  10. That's what I'm here for

  12. "Huh." Trellin, said, scribbling a note. "Then Narrators can create things, or summon them from other places?"
  13. "Yeah, but they're strong nonetheless." "I don't care how justified murder is, never do it. They are better ways! Listen, Shoe, just listen. Don't become a murderer for vengeance. Don't make the mistake I did. I don't care how good it feels or how rational it seems. Nothing is worth the price of murder." "Are you a Narrator?"
  14. “Incredibly. They’re shapechangers, but their true form is nearly impossible to kill. I’ve seen one slaughter half the men in an army.”
  15. "We need to go north. We're too far to the south. But that's not the problem. Demons are the problem. Especially Faceless."
  16. Perseus looked around, once more. "Well, I know where we are!" he said triumphantly. "The Withered Forests. Eight hundred miles southeast of where we should be. If you see somebody, stay away until you know they're real. This is the Faceless' breeding grounds."
  17. Trellin frowned. "This is the kind of thing my master wants me to investigate. Tell me, does Talaman have a physical body, or is it just a spirit?"
  18. "Shoe, listen. You're the best of us. You've always been. Don't let that man destroy you. Don't go down my path." Trellin glanced at it. "Pineapple." he said. "Number 17 is pineapple." Trellin shrugged, and teleported him to a train station.
