lavala wanted me to draw her as a human

So, there're basically thirteen races (or at least thirteen races so far, if you divide those cultures into more parts) on Roshar: the Alethi, the Vedens, the Unkalaki (aka the Horneaters), the Herdazians, the Thaylens, the Natan, the Makabaki, the Selay, the Iriali, the Shin, the Reshi, the Listeners and the Aimians. A list of human races: 1. The Alethi (People of Alethkar) 1) Common features: tall stature, tan skin, black hair, lighteyes and darkeyes 2) Inspiration from Earth: Asian-Hawaiian people (You can imagine them as east-Indian people.) [source] 2. The Vedens (People of Jah Keved) 1) Common features: fair skin, red hair 2) Inspiration from Earth: Asian-Caucasian people (supposedly more Asian-like) [source] 3. The Unkalaki (People of the Horneater Peaks) 1) Common features: light tan skin (or just fair skin like the Vedens) (supposedly lighter than the Alethi), red hair, strong back molars to break shells and claws (result of Parshendi hybrids) [source] 2) Inspiration from Earth: Mongolian people, Polynesian people, Russian people [source] 4. The Herdazians (People of Herdaz) 1) Common features: deep tan skin (supposedly darker than the Alethi), dark crystalline fingernails (result of Parshendi hybrids) 2) Inspiration from Earth: Hispanic people [source] 5. The Thaylens (People of Thaylenah) 1) Common features: long white eyebrows 2) Inspiration from Earth: unknown 6. The Natan (People of the former Natanatan) 1) Common features: pale bluish skin, wide nose, wool-like white hair [WoK Ch.36] 2) Inspiration from Earth: unknown 7. The Makabaki (People of the former Makabakam) 1) Common features: dark brown skin (or just dark skin), black hair [WoK Ch.14] 2) Inspiration from Earth: unknown Notable races: The Azish, the Emuli and the Tukari (People of Azir, Emul and Tukar) 8. The Selay (People of the former Sela Tales) 1) Common features: skin ripples [WoK Ch.52] 2) Inspiration from Earth: unknown Notable race: The Purelaker (People of the Purelake) 1) Common features: leathery skin, dark hair, long limbs [WoR I-3] 2) Inspiration from Earth: unknown 9. The Iriali (People of Iri and perhaps Rira) 1) Common features: yellow eyes, golden skin often painted various colors and patterns, golden hair with metallic sheen [WoK Ch.18, WoR I-2] 2) Inspiration from Earth: unknown 10. The Shin (People of Shinovar) 1) Common features: short stature, pale skin, large round eyes, men tending to be bald, no epicanthic folds 2) Inspiration from Earth: unknown 11. The Reshi (People of the Reshi Isles) 1) Common features: tan skin, straight black hair, rounded features [WoR I-9] 2) Inspiration from Earth: Hispanic people (or at least for Lift) [source]

Hello all! Happy holidays! I printed some Cosmere-themed postcards, using some of my fan art pieces, and I think it'll be nice to send some of them to Sharders. So I decided to give away 5-10 pieces here =) If you are interested and are willing to share your address, please send me the number of the card you want most and what you’d love to see on the back (For example, I can do additional art sketch for you.), via message inside the forum. Then I’ll contact you for further details. So be quick! (If there's anyone.) First come, first serve! (Once I receive enough requests, I’ll close the giveaway.) Note that card #8 is out of supply now.

Man, this is so great!!! Must have one in my collection =) (What intrigue me most are the compiled Ars Arcanum and collected relics from all Shardworlds! Wait, can we also ask for a real Hoid? ;P)

White Sand graphic novel looks so great! It's even better than I expected! (Love the style and coloring. And yeah, white robes! Though Kenton seems a little older than I used to think ;P) Elantris sequels are coming! I just felt so excited about them! I also wonder what they're going to call the whole series.(Elantris Trilogy or other things?) (But when it comes to Dragonsteel and Liar... Man that "looong way off" really is frustrating.) That Cosmere star chart part made me freak out, too. I never really expect it will come out so early!

Stormfather! Blood of my fathers/ancestors! (Interestingly, this curse by Dalinar only exists in WoK but not WoR. I quite miss it.)

Your first & favourite Sanderson novel
Botanica replied to Young Bard's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Elantris is my first Sanderson book, and I loved it (and everything from Sel). But when compared to SA, which is my third Cosmere series, I'll pick the latter. (So I can prove the exception of Elantris.) The settings of Roshar are just my cup of tea. WoK is my all-time favourite and I can read WoR forever -

Yeah! My first read of Mistborn was through simplified Chinese copy, and the translation of that edition is incredibly bad. (The same thing also happened with Elantris.) How bad? There're translation mistakes on almost every page! Especially The Final Empire. The whole fandom (not only the Cosmere one, but also the whole fantasy/sci-fi fandom) was shocked by its bad quality, so we complained, "That publisher brutally ruined Brandon's reputation and his Cosmere series! It's scandalous! It's a sin!" (Fortunately, another publisher wish to do all of Brandon's books anew, and that gives us a chance to read some good translation.) Some examples of mistakes: - TLR is called "Sliver of Infinity", but the translator just thought it's "Silver of Infinity" without another glance. - Pewter should be translated as "白镴", but in the copy-editing process (we suppose), the word was changed into "白蜡" (They read the same.), just because the character "镴" is more complex and uncommon to see. However, "白蜡" means "white wax", which is wrong. (BTW I've read German Words of Radiance once. The overall translation is nice, but I also found some mistakes. The translator seemed to omit many things. But I'm not sure if it is common in German translation of English fantasy books.)

Dalinar's Flashback Chapter from Oathbringer
Botanica replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
Wow this excerpt is finally up! It's refreshing to read such a brutal Dalinar. His flashbacks must be so much fun, which makes me get more hyped about book three As for the archer, judging from his appearance, I tend to believe he is an oldblood, maybe Teleb? -
This is really a good idea! A comprehensive cover collection from different editions sounds wonderful =) I'll be glad to contribute images and information for some books in foreign language. For example, this is what I've collected for The Way of Kings so far:

Man, I love them both. WoK introduced Roshar and all those lovable characters to me, helping me undergo the worst time of my life. It always has a special place in my heart. But if I have to choose, I think I will go for WoR, since I spent one year and a half translating this monster book, and I appreciated everything in it =) The story began to unfold, more characters appeared, more mysteries surfaced! SA would definitely get better and better.

According to Peter, Nale is pronounced like "sale", and Hoed reads HOE-EED.
