I don't think zinc ferrings would be such a problem for universities. Sure, they'll have an advantage on timed tests, but mental speed doesn't equal smarter. They're just faster at coming up with thoughts. On a completely separate note, what would happen if you burned copper with memories in it?
-
The first men/women in space will be iron Ferrings. Less weight, see? The first space walk will be done by an Lurcher. Won't get lost in space if you can just pull yourself back to the shuttle. Oh, and copper Ferrings will be banned from all spelling bees and game shows.

I laughed when I saw that Breeze had gotten himself named the "Counselor of the Gods". Also, High Imperial, Wax and Wayne, and the tin-foil hats. Does anyone remember what Trell (Miles's religion) worshiped? never mind, it's in the wiki Also, the scene where Wax shoots the bullet with another bullet to kill the Koloss guy was absurd, yet awesome.

But is stormlight being consumed, or is it merely leaking away?

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Arcanist Lupus replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I got an answer from Brandon at this evening's signing! I asked him how much choice the Shards had about which planets they ended up on, and he said that they had a lot of choice, but not absolute freedom. -
We know that Kaladin's surgebinding is related to gravitation and air pressure.
-
At this point, I don't think anything's a coincidence.
-
Good point. and Kaladin mentions spren mimicking words and faces early on.
-
I did not know that. Thank you. My point still stands, though, that the magic is introducing energy into the system, therefore I don't think it would violate the laws of thermodynamics.
-
True, if donations are the only source of income. If we're doing ads or plushies or something extra, then those would not be included in the donation bar, and therefore go to the extra stuff you mentioned.
-
I'm in support of the spren as cognitive w/ physical shades theory. Why? Because when Shallan mentions the symbolheads, Jasnah assumes that she saw them in Shadesmar. That being said, all spren besides for Syl and the symbolheads seem to lack cognitive abilities.
-
I don't think it's a violation. It just draws upon color as an energy source.
-
One thing I've seen another site do... They had a thread devoted to their donations button, which included the button, and a percent bar which indicated how close donations had come to covering the site's costs for the month. It seems to me like a good way of making the donations button easy to find, without being intrusive.

I think that the "tower" referred to in the death quote is Urithiru, the home of the Radiants. The spear is probably connected to Kaladin in some way, either because Kaladin is the "He" in the quote, or for some other reason. There's no definite connection between the first part of the death quote and the second part. I'm sure they're related, but it's not clear how. I think the Fallen Title is symbolic of Dalinar being crushed by the Parshendi. On page 420 of the Hardback, about two thirds through chapter 28, as Dalinar walks with Navani back to his personal complex from pounding out the Latrine with his hammer, he describes the Glyphpair on his banners as being shaped into a Crown and a Tower. If Kaladin hadn't saved Dalinar House Kholin would have been practically finished, sounds like a fallen title to me, and the spear refers to the fact that he was refusing to use anything but that spear with the head knocked off, it means that he had to pick up the spear and fight again. Maybe. But I can't help but feel that the tower, crown, and spear are three separate items. Otherwise it would have written as "The tower and the crown, and the spear!" Maybe if the tower and crown are Adolin and Dalinar (or vis versa), and the spear is Kaladin... That would make sense to me. What if the fallen title is Highprince of War? The title has certainly fallen, a) because nobody had it, and because nobody followed the codes of war. It might also be the title of Knight Radiant. That I think is more likely. What if the "he" is referring to the tower, the crown, and the spear? These ideas are coming to me as I write.

By the way, you can find all the epigraphs here. One of the death quotes: One of Jasnah's quotes: I think that the "tower" referred to in the death quote is Urithiru, the home of the Radiants. The spear is probably connected to Kaladin in some way, either because Kaladin is the "He" in the quote, or for some other reason. There's no definite connection between the first part of the death quote and the second part. I'm sure they're related, but it's not clear how. More on Urithiru (a quote from Jasnah): Where is the place nearest to Honor? And what does that mean?* The place farthest west is Shinovar**, but that seems unlikely to be the place nearest to Honor, given the lack of stormlight and spren, both of which I think are connected to Honor. That being said, Szeth considered Stormlight to be holy... It is possible someone pulled a Lord Ruler and readjusted Roshar to disguise the place nearest to Honor. That being said, the quote says "westward", not "west-most". The location of Urithiru doesn't have to be as far west as possible, just west of Alethela (Alethkar). It's worth noting that Highstorms begin in the East, so they don't begin at the source of Honor. Whatever that means. * my money is on there being a shardpool in/near Urithiru. ** actually, looking at the maps, there is an island, Aimia, west of Shinovar. Finally, one last Urithiru quote (commentary by Jasnah): I suspect this isn't a mistake like Jasnah thinks it is. I think that Urithiru (or more importantly, the "place nearest to Honor") is the birthplace of the Radiants - where the orders began. One final thought: When looking at Jasnah's studies (and to a lesser extent any of the death quotes that were recorded, don't forget that it is entirely possible that Odium has the same ability to alter text that Ruin had.

Was making Warbreaker free a good idea or a bad idea?
Arcanist Lupus replied to ZeldaDad's topic in Warbreaker
I checked Warbreaker out of the library. So... -
It's easy to tell the difference between two notes. However, identifying one note in isolation requires perfect pitch, which most people don't have. A musical language might still be feasible, but I don't think it would be as easy as just assigning letters to notes. (Also ignoring the fact that such a language would be hell to listen to. It would be full of minor 7ths, and tritones, and other odd intervals).

Of course, knowing Brandon, they're not going to be normal dragons. edited for grammar.

The question I asked got a very clear answer, but the bit on the end is not quite something I understand. I'll have to ask him about that one. Silus, I think he means that there are 5 different gemstones being used (namely Diamonds, Garnets, Rubys, Sapphires, and Emeralds). With this information, I think that the equivalencies are thus: 1 Garnet Chip = 5 Diamond Chips 1 Ruby Chip = 2 Garnet Chips = 10 Diamond Chips 1 Sapphire Chip = 2.5 Ruby Chips = 5 Garnet Chips = 25 Diamond Chips 1 Emerald Chip = 2 Sapphire Chips = 5 Ruby Chips = 10 Garnet Chips = 50 Diamond Chips I guessed the value of the ruby chip based on the others, using the American pennies:nickels:dimes:quarters:half dollar equivalency. Oddly enough, this would make the sailor's wage of 1 firemark per week equal to the bridgemen's wage of 2 clearmarks a day (of course, a slave's wage is half that).

This isn't completely accurate anymore. Some of the times/locations have changed. (namely, the 14th and the 15th have been switched, and the one in Houston isn't at Borders anymore (I wonder why...)).
-
Don't forget, Wit is with the "late arrival". I think he gets the first move on that front of the story.

Gotta love Mistborn haters... Not
Arcanist Lupus replied to mycoltbug's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I restrained myself from posting in the thread, but the part that bugged me the most was the claim that you claimed that Goodkind hates fantasy. "No respect for" does not equal "hates". -
Surgebinding and Shardwielding can return [spoilers]
Arcanist Lupus replied to Chicken's topic in Stormlight Archive
I was under the impression that it was Preservation who was sticking 16s everywhere, and Ruin had nothing to do with it. It was his "signature". -
Surgebinding and Shardwielding can return [spoilers]
Arcanist Lupus replied to Chicken's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's the question, isn't it? Is 10 a number of Honor, or of Roshar? I'm leaning towards Honor, since in Mistborn, 16 was Preservation's number, not the number for the whole world. On the other hand, although 16 was Preservation's number, it carried over into the other two magic systems as well. So maybe there's overflow. I don't know. -
Surgebinding and Shardwielding can return [spoilers]
Arcanist Lupus replied to Chicken's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm pretty sure Brandon has confirmed somewhere that Soulcasting is a subset of Surgebinding. You make good points though. I'm not ruling out anything. Another thought. There are 10 levels of Voidbinding, according to the Ars Arcanum. If we assume that tens are a signature of Honor, than that puts Voidbinding somewhere on Honor's spectrum. Then again, I'm starting to build assumptions on top of assumptions on top of assumptions at this point. So...
