  1. As would the conversation with Harmony. Getting the religious fanatics up in arms about a minor detail in the movie probably not a good idea. My conclusion so far is that AoL would make a better movie, but Mistborn should come first. Which is a rather irritating conclusion.
  2. On the other hand, Mistborn has better explication for the magic system.
  3. I think there's pros and cons to both of them. I was curious to see what you guys felt. I added WoA and HoA as well, just 'cause.
  4. Feruchemical Duralumin = instant ninja. From the Ars Arcanum: And since storage doesn't require standing reserves...
  5. Here's a question I've been pondering: Would tapping luck affect an arbitrary coin toss? The gut answer is yes, but if the coin toss isn't actually affecting anything (there're no bets depending on it, or decisions being made based on it, etc), why would having the toss come up one way or another be lucky?
  6. I'm going to go with the Octarine Ajah. It's the offshoot branch that monitors events on Discworld.
  7. He talks about bendalloy being expensive, but other than that, maybe.
  8. Has nobody mentioned Wayne yet? Really?
  9. And remember, he forces Marsh to try and kill Sazed. So his influence was greater than none.
  10. The current standing is that only metals in your stomach can be burned. That does seem to contradict the Brandonothology quote, though. On the other hand, Inquisitor's spikes are weird. They should pierce and destroy vital organs, but they don't. It could be that they're integrated as part of the body in some way that allows them to be burnt that normal punctures wouldn't allow.
  11. As far as I can tell, although possible, there would have been absolutely no reason for Ruin* to give Marsh a spike for Atium Feruchemy, especially since he was planning on destroying the world. On the other hand, Brandon said that Marsh can Compound Atium, and therefore he can. Another thing to remember is that if Sazed can give Spook full Mistborn status, he can probably give Marsh full Feruchemist status, if he so chose. *theoretically, TLR could have had the spike placed, but he wouldn't have wanted any other pseudo-immortals competing with him, so he almost certainly wouldn't have give Marsh the spike either.
  12. On the topic of the theory about a kandra replacing Brettin: pg 152, when Wayne impersonated a police officer to interrogate the captured Vanishers: Remember: due to Wayne's influence, one of them talks later that evening. I consider this case closed. Sure, it's not really proof of anything, but...
  13. The main issue with Wax and Marasi is that Wax wasn't romantically interested in her. He kind of almost was, but not quite. If I were choosing a girl, I'd almost certainly go with Marasi. But I'm not Wax, and I think he made the right (and only) choice. That being said, the poll is ambiguously worded enough that I don't know which option to choose.
  14. That's the death quote of Chapter 9. The parshmen are either white and red or black and red. (what's black and white and red all over? ) That's pretty powerful evidence against the parshmen. I don't believe in coincidences. On the other hand, the Parshendi fight with honor, which is a very odd trait for creatures of Odium. Spoilers for Mistborn HoA:
  15. I don't think that Ruin could extend power to a spike, but Harmony might be able to. Also, Wax has 3 things going for him with his communication: he as a hemalurgically charged earring spike; he believes in Harmony as his God; he's an allomancer, (4 things) he's trying to communicate with Harmony, and (amongst the things in Wax's favor are such diverse elements as) he's a feruchemist. Between all of that, it would be more amazing if he couldn't communicate with Harmony. Also, this is just a pet theory of mine, but I think that any piece of metal (i.e. a spike) that's piercing a living body gains some hemalurgic charge. The charge is so small as to be nonexistent, but maybe it's enough to allow Harmony to communicate with anyone with an earring, given a combination of the previous items I mentioned.
  16. I think the best explanation is that Wayne dropped the bubble as they neared the bottom. I think that what she means is that she can't project the bubble. If she could exclude herself from the bubble, it would be amazingly useful for a variety of things. But since it has to be centered around her, she can't take advantage of the slowed time by herself.
  17. So, who're we going to have play Wax, Wayne and all the other AoL characters? I think we should keep these names in spoilers though, to prevent accidentally giving anything away.
  18. Also, does the Physical Realm have a name?
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that storing weight doesn't affect momentum. I think there was one scene in AoL that implied that. Is that correct?
  20. I don't have anything to say, so I'll just waffle on for a while...
  21. Considering that the main characters are named Wax and Wayne, I think it's entirely possible that Brandon stuck a reference to Watership Down in here. Especially as Watership Down is a book that could conceivably exist on Scadrial in this time period. (Can you imagine Wayne picking up Jurassic Park?)
  22. Here's the way I understand it: 1. place 10% of your health in a metalmind. 2. burn that metalmind to release the health x10. So you'd be getting back 100% of your health. 3. You don't need 200% health, you only need say 110%. So you store the remaining 90% in other metalminds for safekeeping, so that you can maintain yourself at 110% for a long time after the metalmind you were burning is extinguished. 4. when those metalminds start to run out, burn one of them for another 100%. Lather, rinse, repeat. However, these steps could be taken more or less simultaneously, once the chain gets going.
  23. I think so. Contemplating the story if it refers to anyone else makes my head hurt.
  24. Can a normal person given Allomancy by Hemalurgy have children who are Allomancers? What about Feruchemy?
  25. Since there are 16 shards, and three of them (Cultivation, Honor, and Odium) resided on Roshar, I think it's a given that this is related to the shards.
