Teleportation : A mystery/chaotic RP
Through the Living Heir replied to The Stormfather's topic in Roleplaying
Nick tugs a small rod, around the size of a pencil, off of a railgun support arm. He hands it to the man. “Here’s the recordings. It should be able to accommodate most data transfer methods, though it won’t fit in shaped ports unless you have me reshape it.” -

True. He’ll be less overwhelmed than Cricket, though; telepathy of worldview altering knowledge is presumably sudden. And this way, I get to actually write the explanation, which I will enjoy.- 111830 replies

Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Rebus slowly nods. “I can tell you, for it seems Tam may have some other explaining to do.” He waves a hand, and nanomachines lock into a screen in front of them, which has Rebus’s points appear on it as he talks. “Have you wondered why some of the magics here - like Narration and Plotblades - are named around stories? The truth is that the Thread - our reality - is fundamentally a narrative.”- 111830 replies

Rebus watches the two hug, glad he’d been able to do more for them than simply test some Nullite. Empathy and personal connects were much more valuable than such a scientific experiment, especially considering how inconsistent magic usually is. He’d also fixed some of his mannerisms, which was nice. Rebus smiles at her. “Effort and choice are both admirable. I can’t promise what I think will be helpful, but I would be willing to give my thoughts whenever you need them.” Rebus smiles broader, proud of the bravery Bat is showing. “Then we will tell you. Do you have an idea of how much you want to learn, or what?” I have to sleep now, unfortunately. I’m fine with you two doing the explanation without me - if you do, I’ll read it and have Rebus chime in.- 111830 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
“They do; Tam’s desire for you to not learn this is valid. That being said, most of the examples I’ve seen have been Narrators. They have their own problems to deal with, on top of the awareness. You’re afraid of our potential - rightly so - but imagine you had the powers you fear. With the same ease a Narrator could turn a person to stone, they can turn a stone to a person. With enough magic, everything is transient, and any endeavor you could attempt could also be done with the wave of your hand. It makes things matter less, if you let it.” Rebus almost puts a comforting arm around her, but then realizes they’ve just met and it would be awkward. Bat had done it already, regardless.- 111830 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Rebus sits down as well, nearly half of his body off the platform. “The danger of understanding this is the way it influences your decisions. Some people take the knowledge fine, but others have identity crises or develop god complexes. Even if you are a less dangerous person on the Thread - the true least, I believe, is an immobile but self-aware mailbox - we do not wish for you to sink into despair or lash out at others.”- 111830 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
“You - Bat, actually - mentioned Narrators having different power levels and specialties. My capabilities specifically are diluted, and I have to capacity to do something like reconstruct someone’s body without Narration, which would be important if Nullite ink does something like bleed into transformed materials.” Don’t worry. The other two options are tell him normally and take the problems, and don’t tell him and leave him mad. Although I could probably think of others… But I believe he should choose, not you. There are some Thread aware people who are completely stable, you know. Rebus looks back, his eyes impossibly deep and knowledgeable (because of metamaterials and holograms, but Bat doesn’t know that). “Even if I explained it, you would have difficulty understanding completely. I can try regardless, if you would like. You may make your own choices, and if you wish to know all the truth besides that which would destroy you, I do have answers. Tam was an ordinary person who was somehow granted Narration, if I recall correctly. She - at least in my opinion - is as human as you. Me, though? I’m very far from being human.”- 111830 replies

Teleportation : A mystery/chaotic RP
Through the Living Heir replied to The Stormfather's topic in Roleplaying
Nick thanks the officer, then turns to the reporter. “I do. I haven’t released them, as I was worried they could be turned against us. Many of the teleported come from rather violent dimensions; they were so afraid of what would happen that they refused to come with me. Especially for Sleeper, Larry, and Tenth violence is how problems are solved. We’re problems - assassins have already been sent after us.” He is reminded that he’d been rambling, and goes back to the intended topic. “I can give you a copy of the recordings, although I’ve already placed devices that will release them on their own. I can improve the conditions so they’ll only do so if Ardaklin manages to silence you.” -
The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
“The ability to Narrate is associated with information which is generally kept secret, as it is detrimental to mental stability. The metaphysics involved are… problematic. They determine when I can read your mind, emotions, and even expressions. To be a Narrator is not the same as it is to be anyone else, even if such a person was a wizard with the same powers.” Rebus stands where he is, unperturbed. “I came here because this is the only place significant - or, rather, relevant - things are happening. I truly only intended to watch the Nullite demonstration, and help if needed. Unfortunately, I believed that Bat’s employment of Nullite indicated at least a slight understanding of metaphysics, which meant I was more candid than I likely should have been.” I have a potential solution. If Bat continues to insist, we offer to tell him in a revocable manner. Either we clone him and tell one copy, or we erase his memories afterwards if he wants to go back to blissful ignorance. Both approaches - all four, actually - have problems, but these two are perhaps better.- 111830 replies

“I tend to do that. Cause edginess and confusion, not change colors. I seem to be doing it again, though it is not all my fault.” Rebus steps away as well, one foot going off the platform and seemingly standing on air. “As I said, this knowledge sometimes causes panic attacks. I wouldn’t want to unlearn it, and wouldn’t give up my power as a Narrator, but if I was neither I’m unsure I would want to know. The power derived from it - which I referred to - was the ability to know when important things happen. What makes those things important is what has a history of causing identity crises.”- 111830 replies

Break a magic system
Through the Living Heir replied to Through the Living Heir's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Simple. When I need a message sent from the future, I wait next to a TV and turn it on when it will turn on the future (or when I need to send the signal to the past), allowing my past self to turn it on earlier than I did. You know all non-secret paths, roads, corridors, and passageways within ten miles, and your position relative to them. If you concentrate hard and meditate, you can vaguely comprehend farther directions.- 77 replies

Rebus nods to both comments. “I know. But unlike many of our kind, I don’t rely wholly on Narration to do things. Thread-awareness, however, is one thing I do use extensively.” He pauses, breaking his quasi-monologue for several reasons. “You as well, if you understand this the way I expect. You hold more cards, and can see some others cannot. It is likely for the best, as panic attacks are problematic.” Rebus nearly claps Bat on the shoulder, then remembers how skittish he can be. Assuming Bat flinches at the movement, (@Halcyon The Only) he grins. “Case in point.”- 111830 replies

Rebus speaks out load and in her head. “I could repair Bat physically, if that makes you more willing to try that.” I am Rebus. Perhaps Bat had a point earlier, judging from this.- 111830 replies

Break a magic system

The chests have nothing inside them, you say… put things that need cleanly destroying (like plastic, supervillains, and nuclear waste) in cars, then poof them. You can turn chests into cars with the same monetary value.- 77 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)

Rebus waves a dismissive hand. “To travel to an ordinary place, no. But to Onyx’s Realm… I suspect Narratively teleporting there could be unpleasant. Or do you ask for my higher goal - the ends for which this is the means?” Rebus broadly smiles back, arrogance mixed with curiosity mixed with genuine welcome. His thin platform of glinting foam drifts closer, and he stands up and steps to Tam’s in one fluid motion. Hello, Tam. He responds, receiving her messages. Template is gone, but should be fine, considering how proud my Author is of them. But their disappearance, however temporary, does have benefits. Me, for instance.- 111830 replies

Teleportation : A mystery/chaotic RP
Through the Living Heir replied to The Stormfather's topic in Roleplaying
Nick decides against mentioning that SIMON acts as a self-aware teleprompter, knowing that it’s not important at the moment. That sounds perfect, actually… Nick declares the law to the camera. “I invoke the law B 1-435, and call for a trial against Ardaklin and Telecorp, on the witness of the show through its viewers and kidnapped participants.” SIMON, for his part, quickly trawls the internet for a law that could get the Loop turned off. -

Rebus listens, absently trying to change the rhythm he reads with to match the Fresh Prince. If you want, I can read the actual posts myself, if you point me towards them. I’m sure I’ll have questions anyway, but that might save you some time if you know where they are. Beneath them on the ocean floor, Template disappears. They’ve been Narrated away, though away doesn’t necessarily mean gone. Rebus - a clone, of course, for Rebus prime was occupied - appears standing on the water a dozen or so feet away. He sits down to watch the first scientific display of metaphysics since he’d existed, willing to help if need be. Rebus does a few last-second preparations, clearing much of the Narrative power from his body - leaving passive Thread-awareness and similar abilities, of course - he sends it to the bored clone. Suffusing himself instead with nanomachines, he stands tall. “I wish to seek the Dreamsmith. I understand you may send me on the first step of this journey.”- 111830 replies

He was… but I guess Onyx facilitates the Dreamsmith trial, or at least the challenges within his realm that lead up to it. Regardless, Rebus was canonically creating that ping, as it is bolded.- 111830 replies
