  1. Rebus grits his teeth. “Why would I even need it, if I know what it says and don’t intend to follow its instructions? The Witherlord’s primary goal is to destroy the Thread, which I would very much like to prevent from happening.”
  2. Exact words! You teleport, but for reasons unrelated to your desire to teleport, resulting in inability to get where you actually want to go. I wish to be well rested tonight but also stay on the shard as long as everyone else (read: mostly just NameIess) is online.
  3. Rebus nods thoughtfully. “Your trial ran past its conclusion, leaving nothingness. It is my own fault for attempting a time skip, and truly, boredom itself is something I must grow past. But I can see your difficulty.” Then his eyes open wider. “One trial giver… have you considered outsourcing? That would solve both our problems. I consider myself creative, and if I feel restless, I can submit trial ideas for you to review. I’m likely not an ideal primary partner, but there is likely someone creative, impartial, and unoccupied somewhere. My Author could likely create someone, if there is not a good candidate. And that in itself could create plot, as you do job interviews.” Rebus looks excited at the prospect of having something interesting to do. I should go to bed now, unfortunately. I shall see you later.
  4. Sagerian nods. “I’ve noticed the same. There aren’t enough people, and those that are here are too quiet. I should find out why.”
  5. Rebus looks at him flatly. “Your trial - at this point - is a vision of what happens after I lose. There’s no world other than that I create, and that which I wish to avoid and keep contained. There’s no future, and no excitement, if I am the only Narrator, representing one of two Authors, where all that can exist is back and forth or writing a narrative for yourself. I wish to prevent that, to stop stagnation, though I had predicted in this case you would end my period of boredom by making something unexpected happen. And I suppose you did. My perfect, predictable-“ he spits the word out “-world has been replaced by a challenge, an opportunity, a discussion, or perhaps all three.”
  6. Ack - names! Uh… The man with the book looks up. “Sagerian. The Sage. It started as a joke, but the nickname stuck.” he chuckles. His book, open on the table, says “few people here are talking. Why?“ Perhaps. Or perhaps the darkening of the wall would prevent an attack force from gathering. Or a scholar would determine a way to close the rift. For now, Rebus sets up automatic laser weapons that could be activated at a moment’s notice. Then he builds more world around the small platform. He makes trees, buildings, people, inexplicable phenomena created by his technology. And through it all, he is mind-numbing bored.
  7. Hmmm. I guess I’ll move Template. A very vague person is nearby, but not in a specific place. They wonder if something is on fire. *unconvinced nod* sure… The man with the book continues writing, looks up, nods respectfully, then writes out another line.
  8. Hmmm. And Rebus gave him an antimatter containment unit? A man with a book sat in the corner, writing things down.
  9. I’m always interested in lore. I may make a new character to listen to it, honestly. Rebus tosses the nanomachine at the wall. It sticks there, ready to slowly grow and darken this portion of it. Rebus himself goes through the rift, setting up some lights behind him that would mimic the rest of the wall. Hopefully that would stop the withergiests from doing something that would end unpleasantly for the both of them.
  10. Rebus knows to be afraid of Withergeists, but this one seems weak. “Hello?” he whispers. “I don’t think you want to be in there. It hurts you.” He makes a small nanomachine on his finger, barely a speck. It had Rebus’s mind on it, and would do other things if needed, but most importantly, it would grow off the light of the wall. He thought the void-creature would appreciate that, though he didn’t throw it yet. Especially since the machine was just fine with consuming a pitiful void-creature for matter instead, should its creator need it.
  11. Rebus stops in place, whirling to point his pole at the sound. His other, more dangerous weapons also power up, though none of the usual lasers or universal constructors are part of his utility fog.
  12. Although actually it’s more too bad for me. Because Rebus is busy, while I am not. Rebus looks at the wall in awe, then floats back through. But first, he reaches out with the pole and touches the wall.
  13. Rebus’s teleportation beacon should still be there, I think. It’s too bad for Rebus that Bat forgot about it.
  14. Rebus takes a deep breath - he doesn’t need to breathe, but it’s habit - then floats into the rift. Kion expects nothing less, taking it as proof it’s the right Moni. What did she actually do to the spell? Because there may now be an open Render connection.
  15. Rebus, upon pulling back an intact pole, cautiously places his hand in the rift. Kion sighs, having hoped that would work. “Alright, tie up the one outside and I’ll drop the spell. Quickly, please.”
  16. Rebus sets his face, deciding to mourn later. He’d bring Balitan back from memory, as he’d promised. He creates a pole, sticks it into the void, then pulls it back. Kion shrugs. “You cannot be too careful. Do either of you know the code phrases?” he bluffs. The Rebus clone nods slowly. “I was mostly being metaphorical. But I think you have other things to worry about right now.”
  17. Rebus looks at the footage from the camera, then notices the planet chunks. His jaw drops, and he begins to laugh, mostly in disbelief. “Did I just- did we- is that? Did we just destroy the planet?” He brings back his utility fog for protection, and searches and broadcasts on frequencies Balitan might use. Kion looks back and forth between the two Monis. “A Faceless! Immobilization!” he says to stop both versions of Moni from moving. The Rebus copy shrugs, though he knows Malevolence can’t see him. “I’m a clone - the real Rebus is occupied.”
  18. Rebus floats, confused. Perhaps Balitan is alive after all, if Rebus was sent to this strange place. He Narrates a force field projector, testing to see if it works. If it does, he Narrates a small wireless camera, and tosses it into the rift, force fields prepared to protect him. Kion shakes his head. “Sorry, I’m just paranoid.” He turns back into the cave. “Anyone awake? Me and Moni are going to go on a walk, so I’ll need someone to watch the entrance.” A Rebus copy watches the events play out through means undisclosed. “Malevolence, are you one of us turned blatantly evil? Because you a man after my own heart. Though I’d use plain antimatter, to avoid collateral damage. Especially Bat. I - and several other important people - like him.”
  19. Simple: spend your time finding or writing a character who can grant powers or build devices, and would work with you. Especially a character with the power to make some spend 354 days in suspended animation, after granting them some other abilities. I cannot think of a good example right now, but I’m sure there is one. You have a year, after all. You can control which way plants you can see grow, and speed up their growth as long as there are enough nutrients.
  20. Rebus feels disappointment. In himself and in the world. There hadn’t been anything he could do? Now his old friend was possibly dead, he couldn’t see anything, and their thousand-page experiment had exploded. Kion, pretty sure Moni is Faceless, steps away again. He’d almost fallen for it.
  21. Rebus watches with excitement, but he knows foreshadowing when he sees it. To counter the ominous literary implications, he says “Luxite channels energy. We can use the last bit to stabilize the fluctuations if they get out of control.” Kion shrugs, and begins to walk out of the tunnel. “I’m probably being paranoid, but these Faceless sound clever. But I don’t think they read minds.” The Love twist was well done. It caught me by surprise, but now it feels obvious.
  22. Rebus’s eyes widen at the time this experiment had taken. Of course, there were likely faster ways to obtain Luxite. His initial idea is kidnapping Platypus, which he acknowledges as ill-advised, ethically dubious, and probably not that effective. Putting that aside, he downloads the plans for the drones and purifier, knowing that Narrating anything to do with fundamental metals is difficult. “No. I think I can continue our legacy if our progress here is undone.” He grins, readying utility fog and force fields to protect Balitan and himself. “Alright. Would you like to do the honors?” Kion almost walks out of the tunnel with Moni. Then he stops. “Wait… what did you ask me about, earlier? I was confused, briefly, and you explained the question to me.”
  23. Nope. It’s a functionally invincible construct of telekinetic force currently unable to reach the person it’s supposed to be hunting.
