    Rebus, lacking Thread Perception, had no way to know what was nothing Symbol. He did feel he should recognize the building, but was cut off from the Thread, his Author, and his electronic memory archives. What was left of him that still possessed that capability saw nothing wrong with Symbol’s actions, and knew the pain was necessary.

    Rebus followed as well, on his guard but fairly certain this person would rather take advantage of them or simply get them to go away than to truly attack them.

    “I am Will.” Will put his hand out to shake, understanding that the other subject was ranting more due to frustration than to any fault with him.

    The leftward orb pulsed. “One of these doors leads to safety.” The rightward orb did the same. “If you know this puzzle it should be easy.” “One of us tells only the truth.” “One of us can only lie.” “You get one question.” “If you fail we can kill you.” “Simple,” Rebus said, smiling smugly, “you have been idle. I’ll give you three choices. You may simply talk to me - I have much to say, and as you may have learned I can be quite persuasive. You may get Bat, and do your job. Or you may face the consequences of my frustration - it’s ironic, actually. I don’t think I’ll tell you why, or what those consequences might be.” Whan squeaked. “No! What did you do?” “If you have an alternate route, we would be glad to take it. Her memories have been tampered with, I believe.”

    Rebus flinched, noticing he had a flinch reflex again, but spoke calmly. “We truly intend to simply pass through. I got lost in a portal network.” “Party’s over.” Jack noted. Heir was nowhere to be found, though he had said Bacon won a prize for his guess before he had left. Whan had somehow ended up nearby, and was frankly terrified.

    Rebus looked through the dust for footprints, then sighed. “I’m not sure there is anything vital here. Do you think you could Narrate us a hang glider?” The zombies were holding their shields in different places, clearly trying to make sweeping attacks difficult. And that made sense, which was why Rebus was conspiring to get Tam to him and get his plot back on track.

    Will surmised that this person has also expressed interest in science involvement, and waited for them to react to his greeting. He’d found that he got through much more speculation before people acted lately. Perhaps it was the experiment, or perhaps simply confirmation bias.

    Will was a bit surprised, and tried to determine if @Ancient Elantrian was a scientist or a test subject. “Hello.”

    Shoe found two floating orbs, each in front of a door. Rebus smiled broadly. “You are being proactive again, but I think you still need help. Which kind of help depends - motivation, likely.”

    “Excellent!” Will allowed himself to presumably be escorted away.

    Jack wandered around outside of the castle, since the party was over. Rebus nodded. “There’s probably something useful around here. I do wonder where they have gone, though.” The zombies with laser-deflecting shields were still attacking Rose. The maze continued being a spooky, deserted maze, and would stay as such until Heir came up with something better or Glass wanted to move on. Rebus frowned, realizing that Bat and Tam had disappeared from the current Thread. He smirked, and teleported to Tam.

    Rebus waited, looking for movement.

    Rebus looked around, then paused. "I see you!" he called out, though in truth, he saw nobody and was bluffing to get an ambush to reveal themselves.

    The maze was creepy, full of shifting shadows and his own echoing footsteps. That was probably for the best - if he couldn’t determine the direction of his pursuer from the echos, the reverse should be true. Rebus followed, knowing exactly the answer and wishing he could share it. He also considered having Symbol make the two of them a hang glider, but that would certainly mess up all the plans.

    “Huh. Alright, then, shall we continue?” The footsteps receded again.

    “In truth, so do I. When do I start?”

    Will nodded. “Thank you.”

    “I did say I thought I could help.”

    I’m doing well - I’ve got a bunch of fairly monotonous homework I don’t want to do, but other than that I’m good. Figuring out how to write stealth is simply difficult. There were footsteps echoing from somewhere, but he couldn’t tell where. “Then we have three options. We do it ourselves, we convince someone we meet that we mean no harm, or we get you a disguise.”

    "Regardless, they recognize you. And they can tell you are not meant to be here." Exactly. Huh. Now that I think about it I have no way to run this part.

    Rebus thought that was a poor state to be in, for someone about to enter more combat. Rebus put a hand out, gesturing for Symbol to let her run. "Is this a prison? It's no wonder they're afraid of us." Rebus came on over the loudspeaker again. Your objective is, once again, to stay alive. Unfortunately for you, violence will not do much more than delay the hunter.

    Rebus decided the awareness test’s first leg was probably complete. A maze began to form from the floor. @Bird Furious Knowing that Beosta might not react for some time, he also began the process of sending a letter on a drone to the insect leaders.

    “Alright, you’ll want to incorporate the telomere modifications that I have, then modify the cells to remain unnoticed by an immune system, divide rapidly when needed, and function independently as a sponge’s does. If the cells can divide on command, are compatible with immune systems, and move and rearrange on their own, you have an adaptive transplant mechanism that can be done by touch. Incorporate sculpting to ensure the shape is correct, and to transport the proper nutrients for such fast cell division. In other words, this person would be able to extrude stem cells to patch wounds, and could regrow limbs or even an entire body as long as the brain was intact. It’d take immense quantities of food, though.”

    “Very well. Now that I consider it, enhanced healing - or better, healing of others - has the same benefits and more applications.”

    The assassin shook a soda can, threw it at him, and ran away.
