    Eventually, her breathing slowed and she managed to stop crying. Her eyes were closed and she still wouldn't let go, though.

    She didn't let go of him either, though her sobs had quieted a little. She didn't really notice -or particularly care- that they were back in the woods.

    Immediately she grabbed his arms and pulled him as far away from the dark abyss as she could. Then she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him close. Sobbing into his chest, she just stood there and let it all out, unable to do much else and very much traumatized. She realized distantly that she'd never hugged anyone so tightly before . . . but felt like if she didn't, he might disappear again and she would never get him back.

    She turned and saw Bat sitting on the ledge. Her first thought was one of relief, the second that immediately followed it was sheer panic- again. The third was the realization that he wasn't . . . doing anything. He was just sitting there, messing with something in his hands. She pulled on her hair anxiously and walked toward him as quietly as possible, not wanting to startle him. "Bat?" she whispered once she was a few feet away, prepared to catch him in case he jumped.
