Agreed on all counts. That's what I thought, it's been a few years since I read Warbreaker, but I distinctly felt like they mention some unnamed towns along the way. Obviously the farther out you get from T'Telier the control the capital exerts would naturally diminish, as with all kingdoms or empires at similar stages of societal progress. How much we don't know, but I suspect a lot more of the resources to sustain the Court of the Gods and the kindgom's defenses probably come from T'Telir or the region directly around T'Telier.

Who can beat a shardbearer and keep their shards

Yeah, I'd never suggest using this tactic alone. My original question was whether doing that while tapping F-steel to increase your speed would basically create a super-speed battering ram. The mechanics of catching the claw are different, I wouldn't classify that as an impact because it isn't a direct impact with the plate per se like being shot with a bullet or punched. We know that cracking plate is much easier with a blunt impact of force applied perpendicular to the armor's surface, this is the type of damage we see most often cracking shadplate. When you catch something the force as you say is distributed differently, and since this is a suit of armor the direction the force is applied is important. Moreover, the mechanics of the human body catching something help to dissipate the energy through some of the controlled give and flexibility of the joints. Dalinar bent with the blow, which significantly reduces the peak force applied to the armor, just like bending your knees when you jump from a height can halve the peak force applied. I don't think the chasmfiend claw catching feat is really a valid comparison for these purposes, but when he is bludgeoned by the chasmfiend's tail that is probably a fair point of comparison. Then again, Parshendi slinging head-sized rocks is enough to crack the plate so I think that's a pit of a discrepancy there. Even accounting for the force being spread over a significantly larger area I'm not sure the rocks would apply more peak force than the tail did. Maybe I'm wrong though, I don't have the time to run the math. -
If I'm born on Nalthis though maybe I can become a Returned when I die...

I mean, based on the technology already existing on Scadrial during era 2 I think they probably already have waffles on Scadrial, they don't have to wait a few years. As for the waffles, well we know chocolate exists on Scadrial, I don't believe I remember any evidence of it on Roshar so that's where my vote goes.

True, or even a full feruchemist/full mistborn if you were really lucky....depending on era....but being on Scadrial during the original trilogy probably wouldn't be worth it lol.

Who can beat a shardbearer and keep their shards

Found the instance I was thinking of... Yeah, he says it's tricky and he basically has to fall (letting gravity do the work), he can't just use his momentum and mass. Or maybe he can use momentum, he just can't use the "strength" granted to move his increased weight...it isn't really clear, but the WoB suggests it's not momentum, so must be the effect of gravity on the weight as he is kind of falling into the wall. Shame, that would be useful...and broken probably. -
1. Pokemon Silver 2. Tony Hawk's Underground 2 3. Super Mario World 4. Rogue Squadron 5. Mario Kart Double Dash

I'm biased, but Nalthis seems like a nice place, and having Breath would be fun. Being born on Scadrial it's a lottery whether you'd be a Misting or Ferring.

Just to clarify, Hallandren is the country, T'Telir is the city. T'Telir alone should be able to support the Court of the Gods as you suggest, and when you add the rest of the country in they should have no issue supporting the Lifeless army either. Although we do not know much about Hallandren outside of T'Telir, we do know that T'Telir is the capital city, Hallandren is divided into several provinces, and one of those provinces is where the Pahn Kahl ethnic group originate from. They by themselves were an independent country before being subsumed into Hallandren. That should mean at least a few other cities outside of T'Telier though I don't think any are ever mentioned specifically.

Doesn't Wax increase his weight to plow his shoulder through a door at some point? Isn't that the same premise? -
What about heat if you were unconscious slowly freezing to death?

My gut says Nalthis for me, but I wonder what more modern Nalthis is like, say at the time of Tress.

Who can beat a shardbearer and keep their shards

So question: Investiture resists investiture, that's why you can't lash someone in plate. So if Lift made a surface slick would it not interact as if it was slick if someone was wearing shardplate? Like if she made the whole floor slick, would someone with shardplate be able to walk on it normally? -
I assume being in a sterile environment would help, but there are certainly other aspects of health unrelated to infectious diseases that could also be an issue, though they haven't specifically been shown on page.

Absolutely, only reason I didn't mention A-Pewter is my response was about a feruchemist, who wouldn't have access to Allomancy. -
Assuming that all would have adequate access to their respective forms of investiture: The Team: Vasher - Both a very good scholar and a capable warrior, also a good bodyguard/trainer/advisor. Sigzil - Both a scholar/engineer and capable warrior. Lift - Healing. Honorable Mention: Breeze. Manipulation would be so helpful in that situation, but the other three bring more variety and if I don't have powers someone who can heal me is going to be essential. The Plan: My plan would be to gain notoriety through a campaign to better the lives of all Romans. You catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar. Show the people that you can improve their lives, show the politicians that you can improve the economy and the technological advancement of the empire, show everyone that you are able to provide something that others cannot. It's much easier to maintain power if the people under your rule are happy and like you as a ruler. My plan would be to improve the lives of the people through technological advancement and economic improvement, simultaneously making the empire better and improving the lives of it's subjects making it less susceptible to threats from within or from outside.

To me Feruchemist is going to come down to how much of different attributes they have stored up. They aren't going to be storing anything in the moment, but if they have a healthy store of F-steel, F-gold, F-Iron, and F-Pewter I think they could make VERY quick work of a Shardbearer. Tapping strength and then using speed and weight to amplify their blows would smash right through plate and then just tap gold to heal any self-inflicted injuries. Shadplate cracks fairly easily to blunt force in the grand scheme of things. Someone manipulating F-steel and F-iron would become a human wrecking ball. -
Welcome, I'm nearly new as you....but if you could be born on any planet in the Cosmere which would you choose?

I think Cultivation. Something about the combination of life and nature with the idea of cultivation itself really resonates with me. Cultivating yourself, cultivating others, cultivating the world around you really vibes with who I see myself as a person. If I'm going to lose myself to enormous power with an intent I think that's the one I'd go for. Might be something to do with my love of gardening, and especially my love of my fruit tree orchard.
-
This is great @Trusk'our. A lot of insightful thoughts here. I have always questioned the seeming limitation on storing while sleeping. I can understand why it might not be a common ability, because that could make feruchemy OP, but I think if it was a very difficult skill that only the best feruchemists could accomplish (in non-emergency situations) it wouldn't skew things too crazily. Personally, I'd love to be a Bendalloy Feruchemist. Might be a small thing, but eating as much as you want without putting on weight would be great. Can you imagine how awesome this would be to someone with Lift's unique abilities?

I think this would come down to are we living in "the real world" or are we on Scardial/in the Cosmere? On Scadrial people would definitely be looking for that kind of thing, but in the real world you'd have to be really clumsy or pushing/pulling really hard for you to "get caught". People are going to have natural emotional responses to natural stimuli. If you get good at reading or providing the right stimuli you'd be very effective in just boosting/reducing the emotions correspondingly in a very effective way, if you flow with their natural expectations/emotions then it would be extremely hard to pinpoint what was happening. Perception is a funny thing, people will not perceive such a thing is possible so it will take a lot of evidence for them to even consider it. People will likely just think you're charismatic, particularly if you already have some of those tools. I look at it another way, what would I feel about soothing, how would it make me feel? Would I be ethically conflicted? I'd rather avoid such complications and just be Captain America

Ironeyes (Tress and Mistborn Era 2 mild spoilers)

Yep, I remember. It's a dope nickname. Always liked Marsh, even before everything that happened to him. The image of him after HoA though, like I said is a very striking one. I used "Iron Eyes" in quotations because I meant the symbolic image he has become. People don't know who Marsh is anymore, they know the image of Iron Eyes, a man with literal spikes where his eyes should be. -
I have definitely contemplated soothing...I just like the across the board physical enhancements of pewter so much. They would help in everything, everyday. Soothing was my second choice for an allomantic choice. Soothing fascinates me, and would be highly useful in day to day life. Perhaps I like pewter because I'm a former athlete who misses my former glory days.
