  1. I intended the entire suit, including the helm, but focused on the helm specifically as per the WOB it is the helm specifically that would particularly important with emotional allomancy.
  2. Huh, it's been years since I've read the scene, but I was almost certain that Vin wasn't the only one affected.
  3. We know that in general that wearing a shardplate helm would help protect the wearer from emotional allomancy. However, often in the cosmere it's not a black and white matter of whether something can be done, or can't be done, but instead a matter of how powerful they need to be, or how much investiture is needed. For example, a normal misting cannot pierce a coppercloud, but an Inquisitor with additional bronze spikes can, and the Lord Ruler easily can. Likewise, a coppercloud can block a brass/zinc misting, but not emotional allomancy from the Lord Ruler. Metal cannot be easily effected by allomantic steel/iron if it pierces a person's body, and metalminds are extremely hard to push against, but Mist-fueled Vin was able to do so. So on, and so forth. So, although we know that a shardplate helm would block a normal level of emotional allomancy, does it not stand to reason that someone as powerful as the Lord Ruler, whose soothing is shown to be many, many times over more powerful than normal base level emotional allomancy, would be able to have some effect on the person regardless of their shardplate?
  4. We know that a shardplate helm can help shield the wearer's mind from emotional allomancy per WOB, similar to how a coppercloud can. We also know that a coppercloud and an aviar like Kokerlii produce a similar effect, also per WOB. Thus, could wearing shardplate including a helm, make the wearer undetectable to creatures who hunt via sensing the mind, like nightmaws?
  5. I may be bad at math, but I'm usually pretty good with understanding the effects it describes The heat radiated by limbs moving that fast could also effect the surface tension I'd assume, although maybe it would be happening too fast for the heat to have much of an effect? The warmer water is the less surface tension it has as I understand it. The stillness of the water would also have an effect on how easily you could walk on top it as well, correct? I assume the surface tension on a completely still body of water would be stronger, or at least more stable and less prone to being broken than water that is rough with waves or turbulent rapids. Which begs another question.....if you were to walk on top of a body of water that is smooth, but moving (ex. a large, non-turbulent river) what would walking on that be like? Would it be like walking on a giant treadmill belt?
  6. I'd say Mistborn with F-steel. The only major downside in my opinion is you lack the healing the feruchemist has access to.
  7. A fair point. I was cursed to be born right-brained On-topic. Would making yourself that much lighter make it extremely difficult to run at all? Air has resistance too after all.
  8. Math...it gives me a headache.
  9. Yeah, no. Lol, like: Colors! Storms/Storming! Rust and Ruin! Shadows! Nights! Starvin' By the Mists! Kelek's Breath Etc.
  10. Wrong answer! Colors! It's the only answer.
  11. I'm going to say no. A Smoker, even the most powerful possible, would be but a sliver of a full shard's power. If that shard intended to detect the Smoker I suspect they could. Emotional allomancy I would say the same thing, but I don't think emotional manipulation is necessarily a power wielded by all shards in the way of zinc or brass allomancy. It's just a whole different ballpark of power involved. Now, if they weren't actively looking for the Smoker or were distracted or something, sure it may be possible.
  12. Welcome to the shard. Favorite Cosmere curse?
  13. Yep, we can presume certain things, but I don't think it's ever been confirmed or expanded upon.
  14. Welcome. Tsk tsk.....cinnamon raisin? I mean thery're okay, but the best!?
  15. Yooooou.....WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT? I cry every...freaking...time.
  16. Yeah, I'm not saying it was a viable strategy, just that I believe soothing of Rashek's level could be felt through shardplate. It would be dramatically dampened, but I think it could be felt, especially if he used duralumin. Not practical, but I do believe they would feel it. Everything depends on the amount of investiture and power brought to bear.
  17. A regular coppercloud could block it because it isn't a focused attack, it's a passive aura put out to generally effect every normal person in the area. If he wanted to pierce a coppercloud Rashek would easily. In fact, his emotional allomancy pierces Vin's coppercloud once she enters Kredik Shaw, even without it being focused on her. Even flaring copper didn't protect her. The power of the well was just an example of who could do it, if a strong push combined with duralumin could push plate then Rashek could definitely do it with a duralumin push. Based on the fact he was constantly burning brass for potentially centuries he's got to be as much of a brass savant as you can be, on top of his raw allomantic strength. He can accomplish soothing feats with his normal power levels even the most powerful Mistborn could only accomplish with duralumin. Elend post-Lerasium should be considered a "really strong" pusher as he has the power of the original Mistborn before it was diluted, it was a level of allomantic power not seen in a long time. Considering it takes him burning duralumin in addition to his own strong push to affect the Koloss, something Rashek could presumably do without duralumin... I'd propose it's possible Rashek could effect someone in plate by merely flaring brass and he would most definitely effect them with a duralumin push.
  18. It was tongue-in-cheek. I'm partial to the magic of Breaths, it's just so fun and cool...but it certainly isn't the optimal or most pragmatic magic system. I love that Era 2 brought about Twinborn.
  19. I have a strange affinity for sad songs. What is the saddest song you've ever heard? I'll start... Elephant by Jason Isbell makes me teary-eyed every time. It's just so brilliantly beautiful, visceral, and sad. Honorable Mentions: Jamie by Zach Bryan and Charles Wesley Godwin. Travelling Soldier by the Dixie Chicks Above the Clouds of Pompei by Bears Den
  20. Welcome! What is the best magic system (and why is it Awakening)?
  21. To expand on this, I'd suspect that it provides a limited degree of protection, much like a copper cloud does. Enhanced emotional Allomancy, such as the Lord Ruler's would likely be felt, though not as strongly.
  22. I thought about that, but if it's intent based why don't they react to the intent until after the blood is spilled? Also, would they react to killing then if there is no blood drawn? Let's say you strangle someone?
  23. I've always wondered how specifically Shades sensed blood being draw specifically and differentiate it from cold blood so to speak.
  24. Well, I suspect that changing worlds may have had more to do with the ethical implications of attaining investiture on Nalthis, not the ease of attaining it...but yeah.
  25. I think Bronze would seek them, but only when they are touching someone, as at that moment they are corrupting the victim and their investiture probably becomes kinetic. Shades are similar to Nightblood in how their effects are described, kind of. I'd say a Shade's touch leeches and corrupts investiture from its victim. It makes sense considering Threnodite's ability to leech investiture from each other, and presumably other living things.
