Thanks everyone, you are all very kind. I have to say, the ornateness of this particular piece was a challenge and was part of the reason why it took me so long to get through it. But i'm happy with the effect of it. All that said, im looking forward to something much simpler for the next chapter with the slaves of bridge 4... -

thats really kind of you thank you. I just hope I can keep finding time for it. It’s been such a relaxing and joyful process, but at the same time, work is always busy. XD Cosmere food! That’s really interesting! I would love to see if someone has made a middle fest feast xD I somehow suspect it involves lots of shellfish given the nature of most of Roshar, but maybe people are partial to Shin food as well. Thanks for sharing how nice it is there, I will absolutely have to go and have some chats in there. I have read the first of the modern one and I really liked it, though cowboy style themes weren’t always my jam. I admire Brandon Sanderson for his ability to challenge himself with new styles and themes though, and I’m definitely looking forward to getting into the rest of those books. oh I also forgot I read his short stories about the detective guy who has multiple personalities. I remember one was about a camera that could see into the past. It was a cool concept!

Oh gosh, that’s also a very good question. So I’ve not actually got around to each series yet, so far I’ve read the mistborn books multiple times and I’ve been spending a lot of time in Roshar recently. I relate love the metal based system in Mistborn, it’s surprisingly unique, but I’m not sure if it would be very tasty. I think the radiant magic system appeals to me most because it involves introspection and growth as a person to achieve it. I love that these characters battle not only with the outside world, but their own inner demons. And also the spree fascinate me from an animist kinda view of the world being alive and something you can commune with.

Hey @Trusk'our Thanks for the kind words ^^ Its always great to be received so nicely. You are right, it is digital. I used Procreate on the Ipad for this. As far as digital art tools go, ive found it to be the perfect balance of cost (*its quite cheap compared to adobe), Tradition (It emulates the traditional drawing feeling well) and depth (it can do a lot). Tbh though the credit goes to my teachers and experience. I studied traditional hand drawn animation, like flipping actual pieces of paper, so drawing was always a massive thing for me. The main thing is to enjoy yourself and if you find a good tool to use... YAY! Drawing is no different to laughing, the beauty is in the experience, and anything afterwards (like nice feedback) is just an added bonus. If I was to share one piece of advice, don't be afraid of reference. If you like some art, copy it, re-draw it, play with the style, absorb it. Don't claim it as your own (of course) but just go deep. We stand on the shoulders of giants, and there are so many great inspirations to learn from. Do you have any art shared on here already? I would love to see it ^^- 3 comments

hahah so much loveliness already in this thread! Thank you for the warm welcome. its been a while since ive gone forum surfing, so its a pleasure to recieve such a nice response. kk I will deffo check out the creators corner for sure. I imagine there are a lot of budding writers and artists here. Do people share their own work as well as fan-fic/art? Fave bagel...... WHY WOULD YOU ASK SUCH A HARD QUESTION So living in London, there is a Bagel shop in Brick Lane that does bagels to perfection. The best savoury one I had recently was a sorta italian meets tofu bagel. Lots of sundried tomato, herbs, some smokey tofu, and some olive oil and garlic. Was so good. And then I had a sweet bagel recently as well which was basically christmas. Like, plum, raisins, brandy butter, cinnamon, orange peel. It was legit!

Hey @Oltux72 thats a very good point. Honestly, I'm so used to just drawing in pupils as a little black blob and being done with it, that I didn't even thing k. but you are right! I will go back at some point and make his eyes pearly blue, as per his house colours. Unless of course its mentioned in the text somewhere.... Oh I never knew that! East asian and polynesian culture is so artistically vibrant and amazing that I can understand why anyone would be inspired. I would love to incorporate some polyesian/pacific art styles at some point. Particularly as we get to some more tropical areas of roshar such as the purelake or when that traders apprentice (currently forgot her name) visit the isles and meets the island god. Some super rich context there! I still havent quite decided how i want to do shardplate myself. I am not really feeling the western style of armour, it seems quite clunky and shardplate is so often described as being seamless and perfectly formed. Perhaps it will depend on the context. I imagine radiant shardplate being like almost holographic, like the body shields in Dune. But perhaps regular shardplate where the oaths were broken would be more solid and heavy looking. Also thank you so much for the lovely comments. I need to see if you have drawings on here as well. I would love to see your samurai inspired armour. When you read the books yourself, where do you tend to imagine this being set?

Hi, my name is Graeme I have been a long time fan of Brandons works, starting with the Mistborn series when I was just a teenager, and now hotly anticipating the release of the next Stormlight book next year. In the run up to the release, I have been making artworks based on my re-readings of the previous books. I will update in the gallery here, and you can also follow along on my Insta. https://instagram.com/graemebrandham?utm_source=qr&igshid=MzNlNGNkZWQ4Mg== This is what I have done so far. Looking forward to seeing what everyone else produces and crafts. Its been too long since I got involved in a fandom, so I am quite excited.

So I'm on chapter 2 of the #StormlightArchive in the book #TheWayOfKings - Honour is dead. Where we get to meet Kaladin and a few other important people for the first time. One of whom is not actually announced as such in this chapter as anything more than a cheeky little wind spren. One of the characters who fascinated me in this book, and who appears again later in the series, is #Tvlakv the slave trader. It is clear as he unfolds that he is a very broken, but also unscrupulous character. Someone who has sold his soul many times over in the pursuit of self interest. His bitterness is an interesting counterpoint to his later actions in the series. For this, again continuing with the slightly old school Middle Eastern vibe, I decided to show him as he might have appeared to one of his slaves. Stood over them, bathed by the light of a small camp fire and a solitary storm light invested sphere. He is someone who has weathered a lot of hardship. Who aspires to nice things but resorts to having to repair and tidy things rather than buy new stuff. He is neither proud nor is he weak. He is just dogged and persistent and I wanted that to come over in this drawing. I've noticed over the last three drawings that I've opted for almost candid photo portrait style. It gives me the vibe of a fly on the wall travel documentary of Roshar that just happens to be following the plot of the books. It's a fun thought and maybe at some point I'll have to draw the photographer. Anyways, I hope you like my interpretation of Tvlakv. He was a fun one to do.

My reading of the @brandsanderson Stormilight archive continues in preparation for the next novel. This was a really fun piece to do. Honestly I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this, as before this, I've always had a harder time imagining Szeth in a defined way. It's amazing how putting ideas to paper can really condense your imagination. This is a quick cut away from chapter 2 where he is about to assassinate King Gavilar. I wanted to continue expressing this slightly more Mediterranean, Arabic, north African vibe I have been looking at. I wanted Szeth to be clearly pale skinned and almost albino. Someone who would be almost ghostly to the other darker skinned Alethi folk. (See my last image of Gavilar for reference) I realize this isn't canon, but I am enjoying myself and this style. In my mind the world of Roshar always felt a bit more hot in parts, and more desolate than most of Europe. Except Shinovar of course. Szeth is naturally a very gifted and athletic sky breaker and so I wanted him to strike quite a strong and athletic physique while still appearing slim. It was also important to me that he was intimidating but someone who is so unfocused in their mind that they appear almost as if they are just not engaged. I kept his eyes specifically unfocussed as if he is just staring at the cinema screen of his own thoughts. Anyways I am always happy to hear feedback. Let me know what you think.

It's come to that time of year. The next book in the @brandsanderson stormilight archive is looking like it's about a year or so away. Which means it's time to re-read the previous novels and get myself up to speed. HOWEVER This time I want to take things a bit slower and finally realize a thought that has been on my mind for over a decade. I'd love to start illustrating what I see in my mind's eye when I read these books. So I am going to take it piece by piece and illustrate people and moments in the book as they come. In this instance I give you King Gavilar Kholin. Wearing his family colours of blue with gold trim and sporting a middle aged slightly graying top bun, with a little gold circlet around his head signifying his position as king of Alethkar. I wanted him to be quite thickset and athletic. Someone who is very strong (after all he is known as a master of the shard blade). But also someone who has settled a bit into his more political role and gained a small bit of weight. This is an image I imagined just before he welcomes the Parshendi to his realm, just before he is killed by Szeth. Whenever I have seen illustrations for the #stormlightarchive they tend to be depicted in either East Asian or Western medieval styles. However for me, they have always come to me a bit more Mediterranean/North African/Islamic vibes. Hopefully people will enjoy this change of style. Anyways, I'll update with new images as and when they come.
