    Seizing the opportunity, Jax, who had been trying to look occupied so no would would think him a good target, lunged for Rob, slashing with his knife.

    Kaladin nodded. It was getting dark out. He gestured to the room. "Make yourself comfortable." He left the door open and sat outside it, finally allowing himself to feel tired.

    Enslyn listened with half an ear to the conversation, waiting for Mike to finish. Something felt off, though she couldn't put her finger on it.

    Eyes

    Spoiler

    I heard that eyes

    Are a window

    To the soul

     

    Too bad you hide behind glass

     

    It’s not the glass that’s the problem

    The glass is beautiful–

    Deep

    Soft

    Dark

     

    It’s there,

    Though 

     

    Eyes 

    Change

    With our

    Expressions

     

    Your eyes sparkle

    When you smile

     

    You smile a lot

     

    It’s not just you

    My eyes are hidden too

    A circle of dark glass

    To hide my thoughts

     

    Some people are open in this

    Their eyes are honest

    They show you

    Their hearts

     

    You’re better at that

    Then I am

    Though you still keep things dark

    It’s not really our fault,

    Is it?

     

    Our glass is dark

    Like a tinted bottle

    But somehow

    Your eyes convey things

    While still hiding

    Behind

    Glass 

     

    How do you do it?

    I can’t sparkle and hide at the same time

    You’ll have to teach me

     

    I’ll have to study

    Do my little research

    You know how I can do that?

    I just have to 

     

    See you

     

    I could learn

    If you would look at me

    Long enough

    To show me

    Kaladin exhaled slowly. "I don't know yet."

    Kaladin opened the door, showing Ash the simple bed, lit room, and the rug covered floor. "See? It's better then the other one."

    Kaladin thought. I guess back to the facility...but to a nice room this time. He nodded. "Come on," he said softly to Ash.

    Kaladin took her arm absently, leading her through the crowd. As they went out the door, he stopped, leaning against the wall. "Where to take you..."

    Rezyn shrugged. "He's a simple servant, supposedly. Just met him today." Kerst shook his head. "I need not fear you, I think."

    Kaladin smiled at her. "C'mon." He took her hand and helped her up.

    Enslyn stretched, shivering under her thin blankets. She wasn't going to be late today! She dressed hurriedly and ran down to the tavern, checking in with the bartender to see what she was needed for. @Argenti

    Kaladin held out his hand to her. "Ready to go?"

    Kerst nodded. “I think you better come back to my keep. You should meet my sister. I’m a figurehead compared to her.”

    Kerst stood. "Where are you staying, assassin?"

    Jax grimly pulled his knife out of Phil's body and wiped the blade on his shirt. He eyed his surroundings, trying to make sure no one could sneak up on him.

    "By who? Why? Do you know the motive?"

    Kerst snorted. "So you were hired?"

    "Money?'

    "I will consider," Kerst said. "But you haven't given me a straight answer on why the hell you tried to kill us all."

    Jax flung his head down, but the arrow, well aimed, grazed his arm, making a line of blood well up. Gritting his teeth, Jax scrambled forward and thrust his knife toward Phil.

    Kerst nodded. "What exactly," he chose his words very carefully, "do you hope to accomplish by joining us? Men like you often have their own agendas."

    Kerst eyed him. "'Taking out' isn't the preferred method, though it might become necessary at some point. For now..." he was silent a moment, thinking. "Are you from around here, man? How old are you?" He asked the questions abruptly, trying to catch Sleeper off guard.

    Kerst mulled that over. "We are simply trying to uncover the secrets of the government to see how far the corruption goes. You needn't be too interested." He paused, sensing skepticism. "We will succeed. Everyone back in that room has either the mind, the cunning, or the ruthlessness to achieve the status they now enjoy."

    Jax turned, sighting Phil. He ducked, advancing on the archer, trying to keep under the line of fire.

    Rezyn smirked. "Haven't gotten too rusty, I see," she said to Pernia, looking back at Silas.
