    Isa shook her head. "I only saw him do it one other time, but I hear him at night sometimes." She looked down. "It makes me scared," she repeated.

    Isa shrinks back. "Oh, well...well, Jared wasn't answering me and I went over and tried to make him and he was crying." She shivered. "He reminded me of someone else who was crying, and then he was him and it was really scary."

    Isa swallowed, shrugging. "What did you talk to Jared about?"

    Standing beside her brother in the crowd, Elsa's heart dropped. NO. nononononono. As if in a daze, she walked forward, numbly aware of her brother's shock.

    Jared nodded, standing. He left the door open and slipped into the next office, closing this door.

    Isa looks at Jared. He nods at her and she smiles shyly at Iris. "Ok."

    Jared catches her eye, making sure she's ok. She smiled at him and sat down again, obviously trying to look very grown up as she crossed her legs and folded her hands.

    "The nobles," Rezyn said shortly, "are idiotic. I kept thinking they must have hidden depth or something, but everything they said proved me wrong." She threw up her hands. "The elite of the city! The big deals! They're so stupid!"

    "Ok. Yeah." He closed his eyes, focusing on the blackness. It was calming. He opened them again.

    His throat felt tight. His whole body did. Tense. He hated it. "Why do you want to?"

    Silence. Jared crossed his arms over his chest, tighter. He shook his head.

    Jared sighed. "Like the knife, from earlier. She thinks she sees...him, a lot..." He trailed off. "He didn't treat her very well."
