Chapter 5 Also, just FYI for anyone who reads these, the first draft of the story is finished, and it's come out to a rough 16,300 words(a short novella). I might post the remaining chapters tomorrow, or just continue posting one at a time.

BTW, I forgot to mention, but the map has some special stuff going on with it. The thickest lines, that make up the most noticeable shapes, are the landmass that make up the continents. Inside them, the lines are the countries(obviously). The slightly thinner lines outside the continents are actually what the people of Diranell classify as the oceans. These are where the water-dwellers(like the merpeople and aquestrians[might change their name]) live and where they set up their kingdoms. There are 5 continents, and 9 oceans. Just some interesting world building tidbits for whoever is interested.

I don't know if anyone even reads these, but here's Chaoter two, in which we get a glimpse of the magic system: Ethamancy. Chapter 2 Relevant Appendices There's chapter 2. The magic system for this world, Ethamancy, is one that's been through a lot of changes - originally, it was just bad Elemental Magic, then later changed into a magic slightly resembling Ethamancy, only without the Etha. It was only recently that I got the idea to combine a magic fueled by life force with the one already in Diranell. Thus Ethamancy was born. It's still not perfect, and many changes will likely be made, but right now, it's where it needs to be.

I'll mostly just be posting one short story as I finish the chapters, so it's not like a real thread where I'll post a whole bunch of different stuff. Anyways, I like mixing genres, and I had this idea for a mystery story set in a fantasy world, so I went ahead and stuck it in an existing world I've been workshopping called Diranell. Here's the map of said world: Spoilers for size This world is definitely the one I've spent the most time on, and I'm very proud of it. But it's expansive, and as such, the story does have an Appendices, which I'll have to add somewhere, and footnotes, which I'm sure I'll have to figure out how to fit in there. Anyways, I'm rambling. I just finished this, and it honestly sent me for a bit of a loop. I knew it was going to be more serious, but I did not expect it pull at my heartstrings like that. Definitely my second favorite SP(Beneath Yumi). Cosmere-wise? This gives us some very important bits of information, like BEUs as a measurement in the future. It's also a deeper glimpse of Dawnshards(I havent read the novella, so this is my first glimpse), and how they interact with other forms of investiture, notably sentient kinds. Also, and most importantly, we see Hoid actually being serious and transparent for once. I think the closest we've come to this type of honesty from him is with Shallan in Oathbringer. Anyways, very good book, very well done. Of course, it's Brandon, so that all but guaranteed.

This is interesting, because if you take into account various other theories, then it has some huge implications. 1. Theory 1: Kal becomes Honor This one is a big theory. I'm sure I don't need to refresh anyone on this. But if this is true, then that could mean that the 'honor' mentioned is actually 'Honor' as Kal. 2. Theory 2: The Windrunners' 5th Oath There has been a lot of speculation on what the 5th Oath of various Orders is, and people tend to focus on the Windrunners. There have been a lot of theories, but one that stands out is that it will have something to do with Kal saving himself rather than having a heroes sacrifice. 'The choice of Honor is life.' 3. Theory 3: The good guys lose Don't need to explain it, but if this whole mishmash of theories is correct, that would mean that Kal's decision to save himself is what leads to them losing. So how does this all come together? Well, here's my Theory. Kaladin wants to sacrifice himself for somebody- mb his brother Adolin- but he can't because he swears his 5th Oath, saving himself to fight another day, reforming Honor in the process(another Theory altogether). But the one he didn't save was somehow a key to the battle and is what causes the turn of the tide, making them lose. Because Honor chose life over sacrifice.

Thanks for the feedback. It was all really good, and I 100% agree with it. I didn't have much time to really play with themes(which I normally don't really do anyways), and I did end up having to be pretty abrupt for timeliness' sake. Maybe if I ever get around to do revisions on this, I'll incorporate your advice.

So, I started writing this story for a creative writing class at my school. As such I was on a time crunch, and the story was much shorter than I had originally planned. This is my first foray into the mystery genre(I usually do fantasy series, but I don't feel comfortable publicly sharing my future profession online), so please offer any criticisms or praises. Anyways, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it. Spoiler for length Yall might have noticed the 2 at the end of 'Maxwell Sterling'. Well, fun fact, this is actually the second story in a series of short stories/novellas I plan on writing some day in the distant future. I've tried writing the first one before, but the pieces never clicked, so I wrote this one first instead. Just a nugget of trivia.

Just finished Mistborn Era 1, and I love this. I've listened to Windrunner, Bondsmith, and Survive, and they're all great. This one, Survive and Windrunner are all permanent members on my playlist

Hold up, what's all this info about Ashyn? I've never heard of any of this! I less talking about a virus, and more of some sort of magic that would be labeled as a disease because it could infect the spirit web and maybe have some adverse effects, such as draining investiture. Sort of like a mini, Spiritual Nightblood that could spread. Yeah, I was talking more of a spiritual 'disease', not really am actual virus, that could follow Connection from spirit web to spirit web. Of course, I'm not completely up to date with my cosmere mechanics, so it might not be possible.

Quick Theoretical question. Would it be possible for their to be an Investiture-based disease that spreads through Connection? Edit for Clarification: the 'virus' in question would be more akin to spren, meaning beings made up of investigate, rather than actual viruses. They would infect someone's spiritweb, and then use Connection to spread to other spiritwebs. Also, I haven't read TSM, so I don't know anything about that and I'm not willing to read any spoilers.

Both are obviously wrong in killing innocents. However, I think Kelsier definitely had far greater reason and justifiability on his side. He watched nobles murder and rape his friends his entire life, and as such developed a hate for them. Even after all of that, he saved a nobleman from dying in book one, and seemed to come around(a tiny bit). The noblemen Kelsier killed were all corrupt and ignorant of the skaa. They deserved to die. Moash's victims did not. While Kelsier is doing what he does for the greater good, with some bit of selfish reasons, Moash is purely driven by selfish reasons, under the false veil of the greater good. Neither are completely innocent, but Kel is certainly more justified.

I'm going to preface this with I am a Protestant Christian from a Lrotestant Christian house. My family has always been very involved in the church. However, as might be common, growing up with Christianity all around you can so exiles make you numb to all of that, to the point where you believe it but don't really feel it. This happened to me, and during the heights that numbness, my life nearly fell apart. I grew apathetic and uncaring to most things, including my friends and family. I didn't care about God or anything. Thankfully, God wouldn't give up on me. I've recently experienced a religious awakening in my life, and have grown much closer to God. My life has been so much better since then. Christianity influences almost out everything in my life, from my relationships to my work. Since the 3rd grade, I've always wanted to be a writer. After my religious awakening, I've allowed God to speak through me in all of my books. Oftentimes I will put religious imagery or symbolism, but not so much that it ruins the story. This is the sweet spot that I think for Christian fiction. I'm also a very logically minded person, and I've obviously had my doubts. I've done my research and determined that my faith is logical. As a side effect of this, I've grown very interested in the intricacies of the Beliefs of other religions. My faith has literally been a life saver at certain points through my life, dragging me back up from the deep of depression and despair

I recently went down a cosmere rabbit hole(which I do on occasion) and I discovered that Design and Hoid somehow got off of Roshar to get to Komachi without breaking their bond. But I've also seen several articles state that that would be a bit of a problem for Hoid. How does this happen? I haven't read Yumi yet, if it's a spoiler, please don't tell me the answer, but if it isn't, I need answers.
