  1. He didn't mention it, but his brows furrowed. Just for a second. He took a breath, and then gravity flopped. They began falling towards the ceiling. We'll be alright. Trust me.
  2. Elan bit his lip. Everyone in the undercity was interesting, he couldn't go following every random person he ran into in a crowd. But something about this person was different, interesting but... more so. He wished he had talked to her before. Now it would scare her. What do I care. She's just a random- He tried to forget about her, looking around the crowd, feeling the tension. His mind kept trying to slip back...
  3. Yep. You'll... probably be thinking that a lot from now on. He said, looking at her and smiling. Then he ran into a wall. Oh! Here we are!
  4. He led her around sharp corners and long, long halls. Many of them were dark and full of cobwebs, but some were majestic, well lit wonders of the world, none of them recognizable. Just have to get lost, then we can find him.
  5. His stomach churned as that brought up thoughts. Dark thoughts. He shook his head. Just another person. Not my problem. Others don't matter. The thoughts went against everything he stood- he had stood for. He fingered a tattoo on the inside of his wrist. A pair of black eyes, there to cover a scar. A shudder went down his spine. He didn't follow, at least not closely. But he kept track of where the person was, his mind processing as much as he could figure from that short interaction. A product. The thought sickened him, but it was all he could come up with. But then why would she be here?
  6. He gritted his teeth, wiping away the last of the blood and tucking away the handkerchief. He looked at her, trying to figure it out. Something bad had happened to this person. Something bad happens to everyone. It's just the world we live in. He dug his fingernails into his forearms, forcing that thought away. He was here to listen.
  7. Just follow me, I'm sure if something tries to kill us I can light it on fire before it causes too much damage. He gestures to a cigarette lighter on the ground nearby. They're all over here. He holds out his hand for her to take so he can lead the way.
  8. Elan glared at her. I suppose if that's how we want things, he thought to himself. He pulled a clearly already bloodstained handkerchief from his back pocket to staunch the flow of blood from his nostrils. Broken, I think. He released her hand, "sorry," he says softly.
  9. Wonderful. Elan grinned. There are some very fun rooms here. But first, there's someone you should meet before we get too much excitement. I just have to remember where he is...
  10. Elan freaked out and screamed and bled from his nose instinctively.
  11. There aren't many good books anyway. Say, do you want to go have an adventure?
  12. He caught said someone’s hand. ”Hey, can you tell me what everyone is waiting for?”
  13. Wonderful. Hi! Have you found anything to read?
  14. Elan stood in the crowd quietly. Listening. He listened more than he spoke nowadays.
  15. “That’s alright.” He says. How about this? He sends into her head.
  16. He nodded. “I get it. It’s hard.” He sat down beside her. “Can you speak?”
  17. Elan smiled back. “I was Elan, who were you?” A traditional greeting here, though not many other places.
  18. Elan saw the girl and approached her. “Hello! I’m Elan.”
  19. Elan coughed as he pushed himself out from under a pile of books. He had fallen asleep, again. He sighed. The Miscellanium could get quite boring. People didn’t often forget things that were exciting except legends, and those almost always tried to kill you. He had been forgotten months ago, so he supposed he wasn’t all that exciting anyway. He saw a few people in the library. Maybe they were nice? Or boring. Forgotten, at least. Elan figured he should go say hello, make them feel a bit more remembered.

  25. Spoiler

Elan stared down the hallway, his heart pounding. He didn’t know where it led, only that it held the unknown. He looked over his shoulder at what he’d passed, what he’d been, what he’d lost and what he’d found. What he could never take back, never return to.

What he was, and what he’d pretended to be.

    A brother

    A ghost

    A gamemaker

    An author

    A scholar

    A cultist

    A citizen

    A boyfriend

    A girl (once or twice)

    A loser of The Game

    A leader

    A follower

    A therapist

    A sandwich-robber

    A god

    A wizard

    A creator

    A friend

A single tear fell down his cheek at what he may never return to. Times he loved and would cherish forever.

But a next step had to be taken. And some things, however cared for, had to be lost.

He exhaled, and turned back to face the hallway.

    The future.

And what he could be next.

    An uncle

    A missionary

    A father

    A student

    An adult (yikes)

    A husband

And more he could never even fathom

    He inhaled deeply

    And took a step

For a while my internal “Council of the Elans” has thought about this. I’ve taken steps, but with all that’s been weighing on me, all that I still have to do, I think my time has come.

I’m grateful for all that you guys were to me, and forever into the future I send you hugs.

    Bye :)

    ❤️
