He gently began rubbing her shoulders again. “Thank you. And I will always be here to help you.”

Daniel ran a hand down her back. “You’re helping, you just can’t see it.”

“Ok then,” Alex said, shoving him to the side.

“But I do! You’re just too drunk to remember.”

A tear dripped down Daniel’s face. “No.”

“Maybe. I just don’t know how to get him it.”

Daniel gave an almost silent sigh of relief and relaxed, running a hand through Rex’s hair. “I haven’t either.”

“Yeah, pretty much. Thank you for stopping him, usually I’m the one that does that.”

“I don’t know. It felt right, but I still should’ve asked you first.”

“I know. That’s the problem.”

“What, is he being himself? I understand your concerns.” Freya blushed. “I wouldn’t say that.”

“I just…you didn’t say it was ok.”

“I just…I shouldn’t have kissed you.”

“It’s nothing. How are you feeling now?”

He leaned his head into hers, still looking regretful.

“I…that’s a stretch. But I’m better than I was. Why do you ask?”

I like it! It’s a really good start to a story. Is it just random chance for the people that survive?

Umm… you get enough people together that believe in a certain god, then if you sacrifice someone you can gain a blessing. For example, sacrifice someone in a specific way, you can gain strength. Or you can sacrifice someone to have another person killed. The more powerful the blessing, the more people need to be sacrificed.
