He suddenly let go of her. “Is your hand ok?” he asked, hollow tone returning.

He kissed her softly on her cheek.

He leaned into her, feeling the warmth of his body against her, bringing feeling back to him.

He wiped away her tears, pulling her closer. “Thank you.” Emotion was slowly returning to his voice.

“Stay with me. Please. I need you.”

He was silent. When have I not?

“I won’t.” His voice seemed hollow.

He stayed silent, raising a hand to his throat, where scabs had barely began forming. He touched them, then dropped the hand.
