The element has confirmed to be the lerasium Hoid is indubitably the author of the letter now.
-
That would be excellent, thanks! I'm pretty excited to get ahold of his con exclusive this go-around. Firstborn was brilliant.
-
Oooh, I bet. Somewhere he read from Shadows for Silence, and I've been trying to get ahold of that recording ever since XD Are you still planning on going even if you can't make the reading?
-
Hey, you're in the Spokane area Shardlet? Nice! I will hopefully be there, although I'm worried that it might coincide with a trip I was taking. I'll gladly skip it though to see Brandon in person. If I make it, I'll be sure to record the whole thing for you

I know what Warbreaker says, Phantom... I said that he didn't give any indication that he knew about Endowment or any of the other Shards, which are, by definition, spiritual in nature. I strongly disagree that he knew anyone from the Seventeenth Shard, or if he did, that he knew that there was anything special about them.
-
By exile, do you mean the time between when Vasher gave up his Breaths and the events of Warbreaker? Cause, I think it'd be pretty hard to be a Worldhopper without picking up some idea of the Shards along the way, and he didn't seem to have any better idea about them than Vivenna in the end of Warbreaker.

Mmmhmm, if you'll read my post again, I mentioned the Soulcasters. But you said fabrials, not specifically Soulcasters, so I thought you were saying that all ancient fabrials were based off of Radiant abilities, which to the best of my knowledge has not been confirmed.
-
Do we even get a description of Kalak in the prologue? It's from his eyes, so I'd assume that's a no. And I'll repeat what I said early, it's been strongly indicated that the chapter icons don't represent the actual appearance of the Heralds. We haven't even had confirmation on which Herald each icon is supposed to represent.
-
Could you remind me where that was confirmed? I can only think of Soulcasters as confirmed to be an ability of the Radiants, but so far as I knew, it was just a commonly held theory.

The changing of forms in the highstorm has been confirmed: From my understanding, the Parshendi need three things to change form. A highstorm, the correct spren (possibly captured in a gem) and the right song to sing. The problem they've been having is that they know the songs, but they don't know which spren goes with which song.

I'm pretty sure that the Alethi don't really know what the Heralds look like anymore. Their faces in TWoK, which are all based on in-world images, have been described as Brandon as more iconography than a factual description. I am curious why it's Ishi that's been chosen though. All five male Heralds are present, and as Morsk said, two are pretty impossible, but that still leaves a one in three chance that it's him, assuming it's even a Herald at all. Nalan, Kalak, and Ishar (Ishi's real name) are all possible. I'd like to see more convincing evidence that it's a Herald, let alone one of them in particular. I think we jump the gun sometimes when trying to find them in the story.
-
The main evidence for that comes from this epigraph. Considering Shalash (That's the correct spelling, by the way) is associated with creativity and the woman scratches out the eyes of a statue, there's some indication. I personally like the idea that she's Jezrien's daughter.

Theory: Sunmaker Changed Vorin Theology
Windrunner replied to Aoibheann's topic in Stormlight Archive
You make valid points, but we might just have to agree to disagree. It may not bug you two, but to me it feels cheap. I'm not trying to cherrypick here, but I was wondering if you could remind me where we found this out? -
You sure didn't act like you had. The only reason you would have to ignore Lyre's explanation is if it was totally implausible, which it clearly isn't, considering at least three other people agree with him. Brandon's spoken in hypotheticals before, Phantom. Saying you would need to be a Splinter does not mean that there are Splinters. Obviously there are other ways to interpret that quote because every single other person who has posted so far disagrees with your interpretation. Perhaps that should say something to you.

It is confirmed to be a part of Surgebinding. Soulcasting is the Surge of Transformation. The weird gem thing is a restriction unique to Soulcasting, according to Brandon. EDIT: Here's a few more relevant quotes. And the gem thing Hope that this was helpful!

As compared to how long it takes to learn basic math? If you take just addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, the latter two aren't taught until third grade usually, about four years of learning.

Theory: Sunmaker Changed Vorin Theology
Windrunner replied to Aoibheann's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've read Shardlet's post and I still feel it would be lazy writing. I'd be less annoyed if a person had changed theology, rather than a Shard. I would also like to point out that of the five Vorin "nations" by the time of the Era of Solitude, Natanatan is gone and Kharbranth has very little influence outside its borders, and the other Vorin kingdom isn't even known by your average person. The Terris religion on the other hand had spread far beyond the borders of Terris. -
Theory: Sunmaker Changed Vorin Theology
Windrunner replied to Aoibheann's topic in Stormlight Archive
I have no problems with themes, but I don't want Odium or whatever to have specifically changed Vorinism to trick the people of Roshar because Misborn Spoilers To me, that's not a theme, that's the same exact plot point. Brandon's a better writer than that, he doesn't need to rehash the same exact twist. -
Hoid has the Lord Ruler's Atium Bracers

A more specific confirmation: -
I wasn't really speaking on usefulness at all. I was talking purely about how easy it is to discover something like that. Motion is something you see everywhere around you. On the other hand, "discovering realms" is not nearly so easy, especially on Sel with its Shadesmar problem. Also, your minimum bar sounds pretty high to me. What would you consider to be complicated Realmatics? O.o I think accurately being able to name the realms and some knowledge of how they interact with one another is basic.

Welcome to the forums! It would be awesome to have someone new to contribute to the gallery, it's been a bit dusty as of late. I'd love to see any fanart that you come up with. See you around
-
I'd argue that the existence of the three Realms is a bit more complex than simply knowing that motion exists. The latter is intuitively obvious, while the former isn't something you just know straight off the bat. I think it's kind of a false analogy. I do agree that there is a distinct difference between those two things, but I am unsure as to why you're pointing it out. I firmly believe that people in the cosmere will understand both eventually, so I'm afraid I've missed your point entirely.

I'm of the opinion that Phantom is interpreting this quote a little too strictly. I'm sure, as others have said, that knowledge of some of the intricacies of Realmatic theory may have been beyond most people, but the basics are known on at least three worlds. He also could have simply been referring that no one on Scadrial, at that point in time, could know such things without being a Shard or a Splinter. The cosmere has science, people will figure it out. Hopefully, I'll be seeing Brandon at a signing in a few months, I'll be sure to get this question cleared up.
