I love reading, writing, and listening to music. I also greatly enjoy political theory, philosophy, and history. Specifically the Middle Ages. My favorite color is rose gold and my favorite fictional character is Túrin Turambar.

  1. The Blade Itself, by Joe Abercrombie.

Book one of The First Law trilogy.

Holy crap is this a good book.

    Story?

    Great.

    World?

    Fascinating.

    Magic?

    Terrifying.

    Characters?

    Flawless. Perfect. Incredible.

The Blade Itself is genuinely one of the best books I have ever read. The story it tells is amazing and good Lord the characters. It has the best characters I have ever read. Logen Ninefingers, Jezal dan Luthar, Sand dan Glokta, Collem West, Bayaz, Ferro Maljinn. They're all excellent.

And do even get me started on the climax. Best. Fight scene. Ever.

It's definitely more on the grimdark side of fantasy, however, I would say The Blade Itself is the best introduction to the genre.

Overall rating 9/10, it the beginning could have grabbed my attention better, but after about chapter two I was always waiting for a time I could read it.

Age rating would be about 16/17, it's a very, very violent book and there is a lot of effing-this and effing-that.

    Barring that, read this book.

    You won't regret it.
