Interesting things can happen when you're cleaning up dog crap.
For instance, I was doing so earlier today and saw something on the ground. A little gray blob. At first, I thought nothing of it, that perhaps it was just a weirdly colored dropping.
Nope! It was a itty-bitty tiny baby bunny, not even large enough to cover my palm and so young it hadn't yet opened it's eyes. I showed my mom what it was I had found. "Hey you know how you told to pick up the dog poop so the lawn could be mowed? Yeah, I found a baby bunny in the grass."
Immediately, my mom was tearing apart our yard looking for the rabbit nest. I, being the lover of baby animals that I am, sat in a chair by the grill and held the tiny creature in my hands. Firmly, not tightly, so that it could still move some, but wasn't in danger of being dropped or crawling out of my hands.
Once the nest was found, we opened it and--to the surprise of no one--saw that it contained about six more baby bunnies. I carefully set the one I had found into the nest with it's siblings, and covered it back up, marking the spot with an orange stake so that it would not be ran over with the lawn mower.
That's pretty much been my day so far. I'm currently taking a break from writing my book, and I have to leave for work in about three hours.
Exciting.
