Asylum returned to the room with a hefty amount of food and two flasks of iron. “here you go.” They said, handing over the flasks and a plate, “because of our profits today I thought we could afford something more frivolous.” pouring themself some wine and a juice for Eza, Asylum asked, “you know one thing has been on mind for a while: What is a child doing unaccompanied in Alleycity With a knack for theft?”

Asylum stoped sorting. Of course, they thought, putting their head in their hands, she can’t read. that’s going to make this difficult. they regained their composure and said calmly, “that doesn’t matter but if it has an inscription, picture, or rare material you have to be much more careful when selling or…” they paused. “…Investing it” So if I gamble starting with the coins and move up to the jewels I could make enough to pay off those debts… they zoned out as they thought over the logistics. finally they stopped and packed up the jewelry. “Come on Eza! Time to show you how I steal!” —————————————————— Asylum returned back to the room with Eza after about a couple hours of gambling. “Now that was fun!” they sat down in a chair. “Remember, lose a few rounds then bring out your ‘family heirloom’ and then BOOM, Money!” After thinking for a moment they grabbed a handful of the new loot and put it on the table. “Just take what catches your eye, I’ll get us some food.”
-
Wow, Asylum thought, mesmerized by the sheer amount of jewelry and, wait was she talking? “Ah well what a pleasure to meet you Eza,” Asylum said, give the girl a firm handshake. “My name is Asylum Smedry.” They thought for a moment, is that too complicated? I wouldn’t want her calling me asslum smelly. “You can call me Lum.” stand upright and walking over to the table they started to sort the loot. “First rule of successful theft: Make sure it can’t be traced.” They picked up a necklace with the name “Alice” inscribed and put it in one pile which was then pushed towards Eza. “Keep these separate. I know some people who can alter them with no questions asked.” They thought for a moment, “well except the question ‘where’s my money?’” They laughed and continued to sort.

Asylum, the Mistwarrens, Coppercloud inn Asylum walked into Coppercloud inn to find their new money finder waiting in the lobby. ”good to see you’re settling in. I’ll get us a room.” They walked up to the desk clerk. “Could I have a room for two? It for me and my daughter.” They gestured toward the girl behind them. Then leaning in. “I know we don’t look too alike, but she looks more like her mother.” the clerk stared and then smiled, “of course sir, or um, ma’am? Would you be interested in the more luxurious of our rooms?” that smile, how could one say no to that smile. “Of course, I think that would be splendid.” They were given their room card and gave the clerk a tip before leading the little thief to their room. @Lunamor @Ookla of Ravens @Ookla the Windwhisperer

Asylum stood. “simple, you seem to have a talent for acquiring expensive things, And I have a talent for making one expensive thing into two. Supply me with half of today’s spoils and I’ll double it by tomorrow.” ”also,” Asylum said. “Take this.” They presented a small clover with four leaves. “It should make your job easier.” they started walking away then stopped, “meet me at Coppercloud inn by sundown.” why there? They asked themself as they began to walk again, but they had learned long ago to trust their gut. Hopefully they could find some people there who new how to play cards.

Asylum turn towards the girl. It worked! I should’ve never doubted, they thought trying to control their excitement. They crouched down to meet the girl’s eyes. “well hello there,” they said, with a smile. “I saw you liked shiny things and I wanted to add to your collection.” They gestured towards the hidden brooch. “I think we can help each other.”

After wandering for a bit, Asylum came across a jewelry store. It was pretty outdated but the jewelry was gorgeous. I could use a new pocket watch, they thought as a bejeweled brooch shot out from the display. quickly turning they spotted a small girl pocketing it and disappearing into the crowd. I could use some luck about now, Asylum thought. For some reason they felt that that girl was important, And summoning what little luck they have gathered they closed their eyes, crossed their fingers, and threw their coin directly into the sky. Bring her to me.

This is getting a little out of hand, Asylum thought as they gabbed the door handle. “Just to clarify I didn’t say she is evil, I said her god is evil.” Asylum watched the man concuss himself and then promptly knocked on the door frame and left. Well that went well, they thought sarcastically. Taking out of their pocket a single penny, or whatever the natives called it, they started flipping. Heads, Heads, Tails. Not bad. I’ll take it. @Ookla the Believer @Lunamor

Asylum looked up from their drink. Oh, they thought, Maybe I’ve drunk a little too much. setting down their drink, Asylum stood. “I may have misspoke,” Asylum said, backing away. “I bet she was a wonderful French evil Jesus worshiper.” it’ll have to be a blue moon tonight to make up for this, They thought as they slowly approached the door. @Ookla the Prehistoric @Ookla the Believer

Asylum observed the comforting over another glass of wine. so sweet, they thought. wait, am I supposed to comfort him too? Asylum cleared their throat, “don’t worry about. I mean, you’ll get over her. A word of advice: don’t trust ghostbloods, they always cheat.” They took a sip and then realized their mistake. “AT CARDS, I mean they cheat at cards.” Asylum leaned back and took a sip, my job here is done. that could have been a catastrophe.

How about this: I will tag you when I am ready for you to make an entrance.

Asylum Smedry, the Mistwarrens, Brassy’s The bartender, whose name was not Tim, hesitated and then said, “Kilahto, huh, I don’t know but I can check.” he then scrambled behind the bar and began to search. Asylum slid up to Itsuki, “Kilahito,” they said buried in thought, “now, I don’t think I’ve heard of that one before.” They took another drink of wine, “I don’t get you cosmere, um, people. Too many planets.” @Ookla the Believer @Ookla the Prehistoric

So here’s an idea I had. Eza is good at getting money and pickpocketing, and is perfectly fine with doing morally ambiguous things. Asylum, who is willing to manipulate basically anyone to get money, Might incidentally bump into her and hire her to help them. Also Asylum has the ability to gift people Good luck (they are a smedry who’s talent is superstition so they could give someone a four leaf clover and they would be more lucky) which could come in handy. of course we could probably fit in the whole thing with looking for her mother in somewhere but that’s the gist.
-
I think this character is great and would definitely fit very well especially since the current plot is taking place in the Mistwarrens. I also think she might fit in well with my character, Asylum, since they are also a morally ambiguous person who loves trickery and money.

Asylum Smedry, the Mistwarrens, Brassy’s. Asylum entered Brassy’s, which was the only bar they could find with their bad luck. they went up to the bartender and greeted him, “Hey, Tim, how are you.” the man blinked and then said, “that’s not my name.” Asylum cursed under their breath, guess I’m still unlucky, “was I close?” ”no” throwing salt over their shoulder, “I’ll have wine, just put it on my tab.” the bartender looked down at a ledger and then back at Asylum. ”look, I’ll pay it eventually.” Asylum said, “I’m just short of change” taking a swig of wine they started wondering, wait why am I here. almost spiting out their drink, they remembered the three people they came in with. They quickly turned toward their guests. “Introductions, yes, well I am Asylum Smedry, nice to meet you all.” @Ookla the Believer @Ookla thePresentParticiple @Ookla the Prehistoric

“Yeah, that’s great” Asylum said sarcastically, “let’s just look at a forgery for an hour, that should be fun.” They gave the forger a blank stare “or, hear me out, we go get a drink and talk about this. Maybe, I don’t know, introduce ourselves like normal people.”
-
A forger, Asylum thought, maybe this will be more fun than I thought. They walked up to the newly built factory. Knocking on the fresh new wood. “Looks good, now how does removing all the evidence help us?”
-
Asylum was glad the nervous man had returned. They probably couldn’t have found him again with today’s luck. ”good to see you again. I’m really glad you came today hopefully our meeting isn’t cut short agai-“ Of course. How could I have expected anything else, Asylum thought, annoyed. quickly turning to the new crowd, Asylum responded, “hello, didn’t see you there, to answer your question…” Asylum thought for a moment “…yes.” They said slowly, and then more confidently, “yes, we are indeed investigating this” they turned toward the factory, popping a clove of garlic into their mouth for luck, “horrible scene, it really is a tragedy.” turning back toward the group, they asked “how about you, why are you here?”
-
The Mistwarrens, outside of the ironworks, a few hours later. A lot can happen in a few hours. I knew I shouldn’t have trusted those slug racers. Asylum thought indignantly, keeping salt close to the track is never safe. let us recount the evening’ misfortunes: First asylum spilled salt onto the slug they bet on. After being quite a bit lighter of pocket they then sneezed in a public area apparently filled with a group of rude people who couldn’t give a proper bless you! It took them the remaining hours just to their way back to the factory. Hopefully this Japanese- well I don’t actually know, man can give me something to report back to the boss, so this day isn’t completely useless. They thought as they walked up to the, now almost completely collapsed, factory. This day can’t get wor-, they started before stopping themself because they knew for a fact it could.
-
“All right” Asylum said uncertainty, “I’ll be here” As the man ran off Asylum felt like they missed something that might be important if they needed to find them again. Then it clicked. As he ran into the distance Asylum called after, “Wait, I never got your… name” but it was too late. he was already gone. well that could’ve went worse, they thought, as they started wandering again, Maybe there’s a horse race nearby… or a turtle race. I could use the extra coin.
-
Asylum was surprised to see someone so close to the factory. But then again they were supposed to be looking for potential investigators or something so this could be a good opportunity. Asylum once learned from a very charming con artist, that the best way to swindle someone and get what you want without them getting what they want to be charming, so they tried their best. ”hello there my friend, What would a refined citizen be doing here of all places. It seems…” they glanced toward the collapsing factory, “unsafe.” Asylum put an arm around the suspiciously shaky man, “ how about this? I buy you a drink and you tell me why you’re here and I’ll tell you why I’m here, I’m Asylum by the way, and we can both make bets on what we think happened here. How does that sound?”
-
The Mistwarrens Asylum walked out of the collapsing factory into a surprisingly empty street. Luckily, no one saw them leave. Asylum chuckled to themself as they begin to wonder. So he wants me to snoop around to see if anybodies snooping around him? Shouldn’t be too hard. They thought as they bumped into a hurrying Japanese man. @Ookla thePresentParticiple
