    “Of course I do,” Zira said. “The naive don’t become gamemakers. There is always someone looking to kill you.” The doors to the ship closed, and it rose into the sky, out of the arena.

    Zira grinned back. “Oh, I’d love to taste your blood…but we need a winner. A champion. A Victor. Come along, now, or you can be made to.”

    Eddie bowed her head. “It’s not your fault, Lil,” she whispered. “I’m sorry. I’m not…I’m not ready. Find someone who can care for you, okay? Find someone who isn’t going to die and leave you broken and alone. I want you to be happy, and that will never happen as long as you’re with me.”

    Zira only shrugged. “All things must end someday. Whatever little Revolution you think you’ve started…Mm. They’re in for quite the surprise.” She stepped closer, and he could smell the blood on her breath. “You can’t kill the dead, silly tribute.”
