Tal…didn’t seem to notice. Each hit seemed to hurt him far less than it should. In fact, he almost seemed to…enjoy it? Draw strength from it? Just then, the floor collapsed. Tal laughed as he fell to the floor below…fire and screams spread from him.

The bed is decayed and rotted…but a blue outline covers it, showing a warm, safe place to rest. “Goodnight, my dear.”

Tal stumbled. A wave of fire, no a wall, an…ocean? Burst out of Tal, surrounding him.

The fire raged around him. Tal stood, facing Pic. His eyes were closed. He looked…satisfied.

Tal ducked, and suddenly there was a ring of fire surrounding him. The floor creaked dangerously.

He comes up blank, excepting the cat of one of the presidents from before the revolution.

Tal throws up a hand and Jar Man is thrown back before he can strike.

In the center of a fire, Tal was kneeling, unmoving. Thick strands of light flowed into him.

“Have we?” She spoke like an adult, but her smile was bright and her eyes were childish. “We are district. You are Capitol. One or the other, we can never find harmony. Someone must be on top, and today, that’s me.”

“Free?” The girl cocks her head. “Why do you deserve freedom?”

There were screams, and fire was everywhere.

He lands in a white hot fire.

For a moment, the fear spiked...then it completely disappeared. Tal grinned, and a small fire appeared in his palm. "Thank you, stranger," he said to Aventine. His voice was his, and yet it wasn't. It was too cruel. "It's been so long...mm..." Then he disappeared. Clinic, 8th floor: Tal was walking through the corridor. Fire and screams followed him. His grin was wide and unnatural...and full of utter bliss.

She smiled fondly. "The kids are doing more good this way, and...well. You're just going to need to trust me on this, all right Adim?"

Tal gives him a flat look and steps back. Tal shrugged slowly, his face not changing.

“There is no worse pain than losing a child,” the woman snapped. “They deserve pain worse than death.”

“I should have left years ago,” Tal said coolly. “Actually, I never should have come here.” “Tal’in.” His voice remained cool and unfeeling.
