Hey @Oltux72 thats a very good point. Honestly, I'm so used to just drawing in pupils as a little black blob and being done with it, that I didn't even thing

    k. but you are right! I will go back at some point and make his eyes pearly blue, as per his house colours. Unless of course its mentioned in the text somewhere....

The wiki says his eyes are pale green specifically if your interested.

Oh I never knew that! East asian and polynesian culture is so artistically vibrant and amazing that I can understand why anyone would be inspired. I would love to incorporate some polyesian/pacific art styles at some point. Particularly as we get to some more tropical areas of roshar such as the purelake or when that traders apprentice (currently forgot her name) visit the isles and meets the island god. Some super rich context there!

I still havent quite decided how i want to do shardplate myself. I am not really feeling the western style of armour, it seems quite clunky and shardplate is so often described as being seamless and perfectly formed.
Perhaps it will depend on the context. I imagine radiant shardplate being like almost holographic, like the body shields in Dune. But perhaps regular shardplate where the oaths were broken would be more solid and heavy looking.

I mostly imagined samuri armor because I think in the first book, some of the shardplate is described as having lots of 'sections' so it's more seamless. It made me think of samuri armor because it has lots of rectangle sections I guess lol. I agree though, the western shardplate feels bulky, as well as out of place when it comes to the other culturall influences.

Also thank you so much for the lovely comments. I need to see if you have drawings on here as well. I would love to see your samurai inspired armour.

I have an art thread in the Creators corner you can look at if you want, but I haven't updated it in while. I've also posted some stuff in the gallery that you can find through my profile. I haven't been doing a whole lot of fanart recently though, mostly because school is getting super crazy for me at the moment lol.

When you read the books yourself, where do you tend to imagine this being set?

That's in interesting question actually, when it comes to imagining things I tend to take the text very literally. So I don't necessarily imagine with a specific culture in mind. That being said, I do think I tend to lean towards the east-asian side of things (especially with the Alethi) when drawing it myself. I'm a big fan of historical manga and manhua, so there's a bit of a bias there ^_^.

  2. As I said in your intro thread, I think this art is beautiful! Your color palette is just *chef's kiss*

The new ideas on cultural influence for the Alethi are super interesting! I believe Brandon said he was inspired by East Asian and Polynesian cultures for them, but it's always fun to see a re-imagining! Personally, i want to get around to drawing some Shard Plate that looks like Japanese Samuri armor, but I haven't had the time -_-

Nice! It makes me think of Wax a little more than Marasi though, mostly because I mostly remember her as being described as wearing a dress (even constable's clothes for her are dresses).

Yeah I totally get that lol, I wanted to wear a dress/skirt, but the thrift store I went to didn't have anything that would work . . .

That's what I get for throwing this together last minute before Halloween I guess ^_^ I do remember her occasionally wearing pants though, so I think it still works.
