  1. "How about we just work it out if and when it comes, okay?" He took her hand and squeezed it.
  2. TAAron looked afraid. "I can't lose you again."
  3. "I'll try," TAAron promised. "But what do we do if I can't?"
  4. Lerac shrugged. "I don't know how he could do that."
  5. "Can I stop it?" Haly could feel his worry and desperation through the connection. "Maybe, by not using your powers. I don't know."
  6. Lerac spoke up. "It could mean a lot of things. TAAron might be much like he currently is, but immortal. Or he may be forced into a more godly role, held to some nature."
  7. "I... I hope so. What would that mean?"
  8. "I know it's a lot. I could be wrong."
  9. "He has the energy of two gods and a whole world within him. And magical power can often have its own intent or tendency in manifesting."
  10. "TAAron's power may want to form something more cohesive, or attach to him more fully. Uh, that is to say... he could become a god." TAAron gaped at Lerac, at a complete loss for words.
  11. Lerac appeared hesitant to continue.
  12. "Yes. But any gods associated with TAAron's magic are dead and gone. That's why I'm concerned."
  13. "Not anyone you know. The point is, before it was just energy attached to him. It accumulated around him because he is the last thing remaining in the universe from his home world, right?" TAAron nodded, uneasy. "But now it feels more... attuned. Not just a wealth of energy, but an almost unified power. You get that with certain magic users. It happens a lot with elementals, for example. Or people whose powers are associated with gods. But for that to change is very rare."
  14. Lerac grimaced, but nodded. "TAAron has a lot of magical energy. More than I've sensed in any mortal except one. I already knew that, but now it feels... different."
  15. Lerac didn't respond for an extended moment. "Maybe nothing. I don't want to bother you with a worst case scenario. Even if it does happen, it might not be that bad."
  16. TAAron struggled to understand what Lerac's words could mean. "What aren't you saying?" Lerac sighed. "I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong. It's... TAAron isn't in danger. You don't need to worry about that."
  17. Lerac meet her eyes, and there was a definite grim sadness in his expression. "I don't know. I would avoid having TAAron use his powers, but it probably doesn't matter."
  18. Lerac took his hand away and shrugged, though he still looked concerned.
  19. "He does have a different feel to him than most... people." Lerac sounded like he was about to say a different word than "people," though TAAron could not imagine what.
  20. "Well, there's nothing to heal. Though I recall that his magic resists external influence."
  21. "Okay." Lerac spoke up from where he was sitting. "TAAron, you're nervous about using your powers? Is something wrong with them?" TAAron hesitated. "I don't know if something's wrong with them. But when I access them, I feel a sort of... pressure. I don't understand it, but it worries me." In response, Lerac reached out and touched TAAron's arm. TAAron felt a rush of healing warmth, as was typical with Lerac. Nothing seemed to happen, though. Lerac just frowned, as though concerned by something.
