  1. "If I... change, will you stay with me? It's... it's okay if you don't." It felt anything but okay, but it was her decision to make.
  2. He sighed contentedly. Before she hugged him she could see that his eyes were red from crying.
  3. TAAron sensed her appear, turning to see her. "Haly! You're okay. I mean, I knew you were okay. But... nevermind."
  4. TAAron followed, and some people shifted and moved away when Lerac entered with his disconcerting aura.
  5. TAAron looked around. "What was supposed to happen?" Lerac had apparently traveled in after TAAron, as he was already there when Very appeared.
  6. After some hesitation, he did so. Lerac vanished into cold, gray flames immediately after.
  7. "Ah. I think I can take myself there," Lerac said. TAAron joined them, looking uncertain. "Anything more to it than falling on my face?"
  8. Lerac stood too. "How are we getting there?"
  9. "Alright." TAAron stood, wiping his eyes. Lerac shrugged. "I can't really die. How dangerous is this supposed to be, exactly?"
  10. "What's happening?" TAAron repeated. "Haly went out there to check, have you seen her?"
  11. "What's happening?" The cloaked man spoke up. "I'll be alright, but do you think you'll need healing?"
  12. They came across a young man who was crying and another in dark robes. The crying man looked up. "Hello?"
  13. Lerac shook his head. "Don't go into it thinking that. It's true, but there are ways to get through things that seem impossible at first. You could do a lot of good. Immortality is an opportunity, though a burdensome one." TAAron felt a bit of comfort at the idea, but he couldn't stop thinking about Haly. He would stay young while she got older. He might be pulled away from her by whatever godly nature, or stop caring about her the way he did now, even though that felt unimaginable to him. She might just leave him entirely, and he wouldn't blame her. It was unthinkable, impossible. "I hope you're wrong, Lerac." His voice came out strained and hoarse, and he realized he was on the verge of tears. He let them flow. "Me, too."
  14. TAAron waited anxiously, still aware of her mentally through the connection. Should I cut that? No, it's not really using my powers, it was just set with them. Lerac cleared his throat. "Hey, TAAron. If it does happen..." "What?" "I was going to say it'll be all right, but that feels like lying. It might not be. Death says that the most important thing for an immortal to have is purpose. Mortals kind of have an innate one, which is to live. And they are driven by limits on time. As an immortal, it's easy to just... drift, for millennia." TAAron stared at him, still barely able to comprehend that this kind of conversation might become very important to him very soon. "And don't be too afraid to get attached. It's better to grieve than to feel nothing. It won't get easier to lose people, but you'll get better at getting better. Also don't try to make nothing you care about change. It's not possible, and it'll drive you insane." TAAron was more afraid than ever, having to actually think about the practicalities of living forever. "I could always just... end it. Right?"
  15. "If I'm trying to avoid my powers..."
  16. "You said you might be able to do something?"
  17. "We should figure out what's happening to the Clinic."
