  1. "Well, it didn't turn me evil. I wasn't expecting the center one to cut me off like that, though. I'm sorry, that must have been a scare."
  2. He yelped as she tackled him, dropping the case. Then he hugged her back. "Hi. It's just been a couple minutes..."
  3. She could tell that he was apologetic for scaring her. Then, in another flash of gold light, he was by her side, holding the case.
  4. TAAron, exerting his will over the object, managed to manipulate which connections were muted. He reinstated his connection to Haly first, closely followed by his physical presence in the woods. He sighed in relief as he once again became corporeal and there was a world around him again.
  5. TAAron felt his connections vanish, plunging him into darkness. Or... not exactly. They were still present, but they had somehow ceased to function. His current state reminded him of interdimensional void. There was nothing at all, not even his own body. Just his mind and an awareness of the magical object he had touched. He tried to shove down his fear, but it became harder realizing that Haly was gone from his mind. He let himself reach out, trying to manipulate the object somehow.
  6. TAAron knelt in the woods of one of the many exterior areas of the clinic. He looked at the briefcase at his feet, dreading what would come next. Carefully, he opened it. It had a hexagon of metal, split into shards with impossibly sharp, straight edges. It was missing one piece, which he found on the grass nearby, crusted with blood. He carefully picked it up and set it back where it was supposed to be. As he did so, he felt an expanding awareness, and his apprehension faded. He knew that if he went to the other place, he would have a much clearer sense of the physical connections between things. He almost felt that he could have manipulated them while fully present and conscious in reality. Well, I haven't turned evil yet. The shards all seemed laid out around a central piece, a smaller hexagon concentric with the larger. Out of curiosity, he touched it. --- Haly could still feel him through the connection, worried and unsure, then apparently briefly relieved. Then, suddenly, he vanished from her mind completely. It didn't feel like the cut she had experienced before, but it was equally jarring.
  7. He vanished in a flash of golden light.
  8. He hugged her back, then briefly kissed her before pulling away. "I'll try." "Yes. I'll need you here. It shouldn't take too long to find what I'm looking for."
  9. TAAron nodded, then turned back to Haly. "Alright. I'm... ready, I guess. I'll find those shards, then I'll come back here to find the queen through Twain." @Halcyon The Only
  10. TAAron turned to him. "Is there anything else I should know?"
  11. "Haly..." He took her hand. "I'm already taking a risk. I might as well try to make it count. I think I can find those items. Malum had a connection to them that I... inherited?" He didn't know how he knew that, but it came to his mind as he was considering the problem.
  12. "Malum was already evil. There's no reason to assume that a weapon he used would do that to me."
  13. "Maybe. I don't know. But it could make a difference."
  14. "I... don't think they were his. I think he just used them."
  15. "It gives me a better chance. Probably. I just don't know where they ended up after he died."
  16. "I could use those, maybe. To enhance the abilities I already have, like he did."
  17. "Haly, remember those metal shards that Malum used as weapons? The ones that would always cut his hand."
  18. "My powers on their own night not be good enough. But there is a magical item, or a set of them, that a certain god used..."
  19. "That might be enough, but..." He seemed to suddenly have an idea.
  20. "And you aren't a part of her hive?"
