  1. Lerac spoke gently and firmly. "Haly. Please, take a breath. He isn't in Death's domain. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean he's alive, but can you tell me more?"
  2. Lerac's eyes widened slightly. "He is? How... what happened?"
  3. "I don't know. He went after you earlier, didn't he?" He met her eyes with concern. "What happened?"
  4. She found him in the halls near where everyone was waiting. "Haly?"
  5. I have to do something... I have to get back to Haly. His power's current orientation towards destruction did him no good, and he had no familiarity with the other god's abilities. Something else. His light shifted to gold, representing his own nature, though he still didn't quite understand what that was. Could I make something to put myself... No. No time. He had seconds left, he could see the floor where the Queen had been standing now vanishing completely. The pressure... He looked into the world of connections, where he felt his power pushing on him, trying to make something of him. A god in his own right, if Lerac was right. Though his oncoming death had filled with with dread, pure fear and pain cut through at that thought. But he didn't have a choice. He stopped resisting, letting the power take him up. Then, he died. --- Haly felt it when it happened. There was a profound feeling of wrongness, an unrest that told her with certainty that something had happened to TAAron. Some sort of connection had lingered, despite the fact that the one she could consciously feel had been cut minutes before. She couldn't be sure exactly that he was gone, but it seemed that must have been the case. @Halcyon The Only
  6. TAAron stumbled back as the wave of darkness hit him, watching as the color faded from his body and the room, and it all began to fade. Oh... this is it.
  7. Unfortunately for both of them, his power refused to interact with hers by its strange nature. The light and darkness passed through each other.
  8. TAAron let go of his hesitation out of fear and need. He let the lingering intent of a former god guide him in using the abilities. Light flashed from him, designed to rend her body and soul.
  9. The light around him shifted to violet as he prepared to use his power for something destructive. "I'm sorry."
  10. Using the shard that he still touched, TAAron looked for other magical connections of hers, things that could explain her power or invincibility in the absence of her hive.
  11. TAAron held it in place. "I disconnected you from your hive."
  12. TAAron concentrated, working to change the shard's effects. He squeezed his hand against hers, digging it in deeper into both of their palms. Then, the Queen felt her awareness of each and every entity in her hive disappear.
  13. He offered offered the hand to her.
  14. TAAron held out the bleeding hand. "Let me show you something." He hoped she hadn't picked up what he intended to do with it while their minds had been connected, though he knew it was a long shot.
  15. "People need choice. It's part of what makes us people. It can cause pain, but it also brings joy and meaning. You're taking both of those away."
