  1. "Alright. Let me know when to reveal the body, I guess."
  2. "I... don't think that's necessary. Here, now that I've kind of recovered..." Suddenly, the body was not visible and the smell vanished. "There."
  3. "I can probably use the same things Allera's friends have me for the curse. "How is that search going?" @Szeth_Pancakes
  4. Meanwhile, Variance picked up the strange dagger. It did not seem to affect him the way it affected Allera. "This could be useful, but it would need to be infused with Perception regularly." @Szeth_Pancakes@Channelknight Fadran
  5. "It is my choice. You changed my mind, somehow. I still don't agree with everything you said, and I'm still worried, but I want to do this." "Okay."
  6. "Yeah, I think so." He turned to Allera. "Where are we going, then? I'll do my best to help with whatever I can. And to keep you both safe from... the threats I bring." He still seemed somewhat uncomfortable. @Szeth_Pancakes
  7. "Maybe... but not something I've ever done before. And it feels strange, like something shifted in my mind."
  8. 'That's... odd. I don't think that's a part of the curse." He shook his head. "What does it matter? We should get going. And... get rid of this body."
  9. "I don't know. What did I change into?"
  10. "No. I just feel like something changed. What happened?"
  11. Suddenly, Variance was back to normal. The confusion had vanished from his eyes. "I think that makes sense. I'll... I'll go with you. I'm sorry for arguing so much. That was a waste of time, I think." He paused. "I just did something, didn't I? Something... unusual?" @Channelknight Fadran
  12. "Do you resent me for dying?"
  13. "What should I have done differently?" It was the same voice, the same tone.
  14. Variance locked eyes with Ayia. Then, to her eyes, he looked like Élter. Exactly. Down to everything she could remember.
  15. "Nothing is making sense. Why are we... something's missing." He seemed extremely confused. "Not when I am frozen. Then it doesn't make a difference, does it? It doesn't feel right." His words bordered on nonsensical.
  16. Variance stood in silence for a long moment. "I don't want to be frozen like this forever."
  17. "Why should it matter if you're my responsibility or not by some arbitrary metric? You're still in less danger if I leave. One person in danger is better than three."
  18. "Because people are still clearly coming after me, and that puts you both in danger. That's what I'm afraid of."
  19. "Did I not tell you? I am as powerful now as I ever can be. I'm not afraid of my power. And I cannot become a different kind of person."
  20. "I imagine they did. But they are also long, long gone. I wouldn't be surprised if I were the only person who knew their names."
  21. "They are long gone."
  22. Blood trickled from beneath his eye. "No."
