    As she reached it, it formed into a body of glowing golden crystal.

    There was a feeling of something snapping into place. Then the light left Haly, gathering in the center of the crater. Her sense of it vanished, but her sense of him did not.

    "Someone's here," Lerac said suddenly. "It could be him? But it's different..."

    Something shifted in the power as she searched for him in it. Suddenly, there was a presence.

    "I don't know what's happening any better than you do. Do you feel anything?"

    This time, she felt something. Not his presence, but something of his nature nonetheless. The power had adapted to him, and it seemed that whatever had happened to him, it retained that property.

    Her sense of him still did not return, but her awareness of the power grew stronger. It felt almost tangible.

    She felt something, and the lights moved faster, gathering around her.

    It wasn't exactly the feeling of him. Just that strange energy. "Can you do anything with it?" Lerac inquired.

    Her own power did not touch it.

    Nothing changed. She still had that awareness of the power.

    She felt a vague awareness of the light, and the energy behind it.

    The closer she was, the faster they moved. They were still slow, but now they were clearly moving and drifting around her.

    If she watched for a while, she could see the slow drift.

    "I don't know."

    "I think it's towards you, actually."

    "They're drifting towards us, very slowly."

    "What was that?"

    After a while, Lerac made an observation. "The lights are moving."

    "I know. Believe me, I do."

    "I'm sorry."

    Lerac was quiet.

    "There's nothing I can do if he's not here."
