  1. “I’ll only be a minute,” she assured him again. I don’t wanna leave you again.
  2. Veyendis wandered away with his nightingale. “Okay. I’ll be right back.” She settled him on the couch, but hesitated to leave.
  3. Qodi wondered what they were talking out. Oh— but there was a translator, huh? /I don’t want Gail to die. Nonneshogashabibble./
  4. “Oh. That’s… interesting.” “it’s okay.” She shifted to support him with his arm around her shoulders. “I can leave you here and come back with food, if you’d like.”
  5. Gail jumped at the voice addressed to her. “She wants Qodi,” she managed on the verge of tears. “But… but… I don’t know why she has to kill me.”
  6. “…okay.” “Well, do you want food? Or do you just want me to hold you for a while?”
  7. “I don’t hate her! She just repulses me.” Beosta locked eyes with Qodi. “Well?” Beosta was right, Qodi thought. She would like to have someone of her own level. But… Gail didn’t deserve to die for that. Aww, poor thing’s trembling, Qodi thought, watching Gail.
  8. Beosta had Gail by the throat. “What purpose would that serve?” Qodi lollipped over, mold interest conquering her hunger. She was now the size of a large cat. “Qodi,” Gail whimpered. “Qodi, help.” ”Don’t tell me you want her,” Beosta snarled. “She’s useless. All she’s good for is healing you, and you know it. Wouldn’t you like an equal?” Qodi hesitated.
  9. He stared at him. “What did I walk in on?” She hugged him. “It’s okay if you’re not.”
  10. Gail jumped away just in time to avoid Beosta’s lounge. Beosta growled, then jumped up and ran after the absolutely terrified Gail. Qodi should probably go intervene. She turned back to her metal plate armor.
  11. “Back? Back where?” @Spark of Hope ”Death?!” “I’m good.” She took a deep breath, then smiled. “How about you? Are you okay?”
  12. Imagine not copping out and taking Stats and Trig instead
  13. He frowned. “I don’t understand. What is this channeling? I’m not familiar with it.” “No. —Please. Let’s… let’s go find food.”
  14. She paused. “I… they’re just teachers. We’re not really supposed to talk about it.” ok @SpiritOfWrath
  15. “Learning to channel. At the academy on Pliseave. Like, manipulate…” she paused. “I don’t remember the definition. But I’m not very good. All I can do is channel out. I can’t collect.” She bit her lip.
  16. Veyendis said something under his breath, touched the wound, and tried to heal it again. “It’s… it’s okay.” She was still shaken. That… was a really scary power. “I’m glad one of us can.”
  17. “I… I’m Gail.” She hesitated, then looked away. “Great Failure. I’m Great Failure. She’s Between Two Stars, and we went to school together. She was top of the class. I… was not. Am not,” she corrected.
  18. Gail’s eyes were wide. “What? What do you mean?”
  19. “Oh,” Haly said. “That’s… interesting.”
  20. The spider skittered away. Haly caught his arm to support him. “What… what was that?” “Don’t touch him,” he barked. “We’re stealing his energy. We might be making it worse.”
  21. “Yeah! Well… the tree spirits picked for us. And- and I got this!” She brandished the unconscious stoat. “Shes useless and powerless— or at least close! All year I’ve known I was gonna be bonded with Quiet Golden Eyes! Great Failure can’t even handle her. It’s unbalanced!”
  22. “Quiet Golden Eyes should be with me! She—“ she pointed at Gail again— “—is too weak! I’ll bet Qodi agrees with me. The academy made a mistake!”
  23. The spider buckled. Haly paled. “TAAron, I-! Stop! He’ll leave us alone.” Veyendis frowned and stepped forward, then did his best to heal Lerac.
