    She smiled a little. They teleported. Now they were inside a rather large warehouse, gray and dusty and dark. The windows were cracked and caked with dirt, the high ceiling making every move echo despite the wooden crates and rusty metal barrels stacked around the outer edges. The doors were jammed to stay precariously shut.

    He nodded. “Uh… you’ll have to touch me, I think.” Rose snatched the compass and did something with some dials on the back. The compass emitted a glowing sphere of light several feet in either direction, touching Cricket and Tam. Then she gave it back to Bat. “Oh. Thanks,” he said, again mildly surprised.

    She shrugged. “Nice.” She’d gotten sidetracked watching a bunny. Which she would take to her grave.

    “Uh……” Rose came out of the forest. “Bat? Is that my compass?” He clutched it. She sighed. “Fine, but can I have my rapier back?” “Oh…” he unclipped it from his belt and handed it to her, mildly surprised at the relatively pleasant interaction. “Cool.” He switched the setting.
