The communication went quiet, as if Jidah didn't know what to say. It stayed open for several seconds before she cut it off.

    Except Jidah didn't feel it, because she still had the armor, and the power from the Rift burned away anything that got through. Latent felt something though. A searing heat, thinly veiling a gulf that went on forever. "You owe us everything," Jidah said quietly. "How dare you threaten me. You only stand there because of me."

Face it. You've failed." Ah, okay. Perfect. And very clever Snow ran his fingers over the little grooves for a minute, then went back into the cabin. His father was away with his mother in a nearby village, so he looked around to make sure nobody was paying attention, then put the little cylinder in the machine and slowly wound it. Symbol wasn't certain what to think of that. "Why?" She asked softly. Rose rolled her eyes.
