Dustbringer's Secondary Ability
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Redbird's topic in Stormlight Archive
In terms of a full army structure this is how I've always seen it: Windrunners - Light Infantry with all those squires running around/officers Skybreakers - Heavy cavalry with their ability to move at speed and strike hard Dustbringers - Armored Tank division, blowing things up with their surges Edgedancers - Light cavalry, zipping around the battle field slicing and dicing and they carry a medkit Truthwatchers - Strategic/Tactical Planning and Medics Lightweavers - Intelligence and Analysis Elsecallers - Logistics and support with soulcasting and transportation. Also Research/Analysis Willshapers - Forward scouts with transportation and phasing abilities Stonewards - Heavy Infantry/officers Bondsmiths - Flag staff responsible for overall operations and coordination between groups- 29 replies

Dustbringer's Secondary Ability
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Redbird's topic in Stormlight Archive
I could see this. I think it would be more broadly applicable than just physical weak points. They might be mastered tacticians or strategists able to analyze an armies weak points or an enemy forces' weak points, or any enemies character weak points as well. While the BondSmith is the leader of the army, the dustbringers would be the planners- 29 replies

Honor's shard is still there even though the holder Tanavast is dead, in the same way that Ruin or Preservation were still on Scadrial in that moment between Vin and Ati's deaths, before being taken up again and becoming Harmony.

Which Surge would you like to have?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in Stormlight Archive
From what we've seen to this point? Gravitation to fly or Transportation (if you can learn speed and accuracy with it)... -
Cynic! I think you are definitely right on the lighteyes ruling by being those with shards and/or others who had light eyes naturally after the Recreance. I don't know how much they'd have to muscle the religious establishment if at all since the Radiants all had lighteyes by nature of their spren bond presumably the Heralds did at least while they were surgebinding (like Szeth). As to pre-KR Surgebinders, I do think you are being a bit cynical in saying that all rulers pre-KR were Surgebinders as a generalization. I'm sure that there were some, and I know we have textual evidence in Dalinar's visions for one/some trying to rule because they were Surgebinders. But I'm also just as sure that there were some who preferred to advise/guard non-Surgebinder rulers. In the same way that people to whom Highprinces loan/give their Shards to act on their behalf, do just that rather than murdering the highprince and taking the "throne" (though again I'm sure that has happened as well in the past too).

To me, that there is a "direct method", being the Oathgates almost assuredly, definitely implies that there is an "indirect method" like feet of some sort. It may just be that there is a gate at the bottom of the city nearer the mountain passes that no one has discovered yet since they've only just arrived en masse.

One thing I think people keep making the mistake of, is conflating the KR with Surgebinders. I think it is heavily implied in the visions that Dalinar experiences and the epigraphs, that there were Nahel bonds and surgebinders before there were Knights Radiant. Surgebinders could operate the Oathgates whether they are formed into Knightly orders or not. I assume that the Heralds built Urithiru and the oathgates, to better coordinate the response efforts during a desolation, after surgebinding began but probably before the KR were established. I say this, because Ishar would have had to have been present before a desolation and seen surgebinders behaving in ways not conducive to surviving a desolation in order to make the decision to impose the KR order on them.

The Hardest Choice
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to High prince of geeks's topic in Stormlight Archive
Say, like an Obsidian ax or two? i'd have to go with Plate as it kind of turns you into Ironman (without flight and/or missiles/lasers), and that is all sorts of cool. Plus if you can bond a spren, you're good until you get to the point where you can make your own plate (if that is how it works). -

How Long Will Stormlight 3 Be?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to blad3mast3r's topic in Stormlight Archive
Luckily I'm not totally crazy! Though I did wait until Sanderson was tapped to finish the WoT before I started that series. I had a feeling it wasn't going to get completed before RJ passed. He was an amazing writer now that I've started the series, but I just couldn't stand the though of an unfinished narrative.- 33 replies

Too true. It's usually for this reason that I don't start series until they are complete, but with Sanderson I just can't not buy and read them!- 33 replies

Ooo, me wants... love board game night!!

Given that they are splinters of Odium as I'm pretty sure we have a WoB now that I saw recently, will look later, and splinters are either intentionally made or created when a Shard shatters, either way they are "made" to me. If you're helping with the official translation though, i'd think you could have an actual chat with Brandon to clarify this?

I've always said: Jez-ree-en, Jass-nah, Jah Kev-ed with the hard "Jay" sound. Demoux/Renoux I said in the French way as well.

That particular one, I've always said "Au-steer" in my head, but I love that Brandon himself isn't a stickler fro pronunciation.

Brandon Tweaking Words Of Radiance

Or maybe it isn't Brandon at all making these changes, perhaps Ruin is doing it all... -
Brandon Tweaking Words Of Radiance
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Kelsier Kenobi's topic in Stormlight Archive
As I posted earlier in the thread, it's clear to me that even in the original version, Szeth commits suicide by Kaladin by choosing not to parry, after realizing that, as Moogle said, this Oathstone is no longer binding. -

Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Kelsier Kenobi's topic in Stormlight Archive
I will start by saying I do like the changes. What I don't understand though, is that to me, Kaladin never really killed Szeth in the first place. Sure he struck the killing blow, but toe Szeth always committed suicide. Death by cop kind of thing, The only thing that really changes here is Kaladin's intent when doing the final blow to me. -
Brandon Tweaking Words Of Radiance
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Kelsier Kenobi's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, I have them both so i get the best of both worlds! Kaladin stabs first AND slightly better characterization of Kaladin! I can't remember any updates to Brandon books, but I've had updates to other books before. -
TLR was using Atium Feruchemy and compounding it to get immortality. Marsh is able to do the same with all the additional spikes that Ruin added to him while under his control. Effectively the memories stored in a coppermind, as we understand it are almost the same as having them written down. Ruin could both see and alter them, as they are no longer stored in the person's mind, nor are they actually inscribed in metal, so they were available to Ruin.

Szeth did not parry. He just closed his eyes to accept the attack. In that instant, for reasons he could not have articulated—pity, perhaps?— Kaladin diverted his blow, driving the Blade through Szeth’s wrist. The skin greyed. Flashing with reflected lightning, the sword tumbled from the assassin’s fingers, then dulled as it plummeted. "Well done Kaladin," Syl said, "Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends. I have not much hope that Szeth can be cured before he dies, but there is a chance of it. And he is bound up with the fate of Roshar. My heart tells me that he has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before the end; and when that comes, your pity may rule the fate of many - your own not least." That's all I could think of when I saw the word "pity" in the changed section. I do like this better for Kaladin at least, after all the growth he has done in his book especially from his vengeance against Amaram to saving the king. It may be confusing, and now I have to buy to versions, but still... better for the character of Kaladin.
