  1. Hello everybody, I should be working on an essay about Shakespeare but I DON'T WANT TO. Have an essay about Hadestown instead.
    (hehe)
Sooo as some of you may have noticed by my member title, I recently (last Friday it was) watched Hadestown with some friends. @IheartKaladin4eva It was amazing and awesome and I cried and I shed unnumbered tears (usually I count my tears; I didn't this time. Hence "unnumbered".). Here's the funny thing. I didn't see it on Broadway, or the West End (70% sure those are different things). I saw it at my local high school. (I also watched it last Saturday, because tickets are not as expensive when it's your local high school.)
It was amazing. I'd had almost zero exposure to Hadestown before I saw it, except I'd listened to the beginning of one song once. They weren't allowed to be influenced costume-wise or setup-wise by the Broadway costumes/setup, so they totally did their own thing, and it was AMAZING. They had this little rectangular hole in the stage with stairs on one side, and Hades walked up through said hole, and Persephone walked down through that hole, and a fog machine was used every time and it was flippin' AWESOME. When (spoilers for Hadestown)

    Spoiler

Orpheus turns around to look at Eurydice and they have their little "You're early..." "I missed you." "Orpheus..." "Eurydice" and then Eurydice goes down to Hadestown, they had Eurydice on the side of the pit without stairs, and then she takes a step and falls into the pit so smoothly and so suddenly that it's like she just disappears. It was incredibly effective.

The chemistry between the Orpheus/Eurydice and Hades/Persephone was SO SWEET (which is funny because Hades and Eurydice are dating in real life; you would not know it from the performance) and "All I've Ever Known" was so incredibly sweet. The acting was amazing, the production was amazing, THE FATES' COSTUMES AND HARMONIES WERE SOOOO COOL (there were six Fates actually, guess they wanted more roles, but it worked anyway, almost even better than three). Hades' voice and singing was incredibly impressive. I loved it, and heard from someone that SAW AN ACTUAL PROFESSIONAL HADESTOWN that this one was better. Who knows. But it can't be recorded because copyright, and so this incredible experience lives only in the memories of those who saw it. Which is very sad but also kinda cool to say. Anyway! My mind is blown and wow yes many awesomes. Essay over!

😭 girl you’re gonna make me cry just thinking about it. Best production I’ve ever seen in my life. None of the videos I’ve seen online even come CLOSE to being as fantastic as that was. Casting? Perfection. Singing? Perfection. Choreography/stage directions? Perfection. Overall vibe? PERFECTION. I’m broken inside knowing I’ll never see it again.
