  1. Uh. Since I have about a hundred books roughly at the same distance from me, I'll go with the one I am currently reading (A Crown Imperiled): "In some cities like Salador, the inner walled city was the smallest quarter." So... uh. I don't know. I am small-minded? The core of my personality is well guarded?
  2. A fair point, my reply is (mostly) off-topic. P.S. Don't downvote him, folks...
  3. You know what I don't see in fantasy? Magic being abused for sex (and other common human needs, but sex is the most dramatic to talk about). I think of Earth, and I think how ready (hint: very) we, men, in general are to hump anything with legs and parts that don't match ours, and then I try to imagine how the situation would change if we had magic. And it would be so much worse. I guess The Reckoners must've gone through this phase sometime before Steelheart, because we do a poor job at restraining ourselves even without the (semi)magical corruption that comes with the Epics' powers. I imagine it would get old pretty quickly (more quickly than building an empire would, for example), but it would be something most magic users would experience on an individual basis. Not that I would like to read a fantasy centered around this idea. But I'd be curious to see it explored briefly, maybe even as a piece of historical worldbuilding.
  4. I now wish he had visited Vasher...
  5. From what Brandon has told us, Jasnah's actions seem far less... controlled on the ship. She was woken up in the middle of the night, likely by a dagger in her chest (if she had been awake when the assassins got to her, she probably would've Soulcast them into something far less inclined to stab things). So she wakes up in terrible pain, panics, her fight-or-flight instinct kicks in (with the flight option dominating), and all she wants is to get away - which agrees with the WoB telling us that her "last" thoughts were of escaping. She probably didn't remember Shallan until after she found herself in Shadesmar, and by then coming back would've already been difficult (because of another WoB telling us that Elsecalling isn't exactly precise even for someone who knows what they are doing - and Jasnah is not such a person).
  6. Jasnah summoned the Blade instantly, which suggests it's not a "regular" Shardblade, it's a Sprenblade - Ivory. Your crazy headcanon is leaning heavily on the crazy side.
  7. Only audio. On occasion I would pick up something from Graphic Audio - something I've read on paper - and listen to it when I am in situations when I can't read (e.g. I am driving).
  8. Well, things do keep on getting better. But I think Changes concludes the (first?) big arc. There is a break in the monologue after it that's bigger than what we usually get between books.
  9. Done with A Kingdom Besieged. Turns out I had somehow skipped that one - I am (re)reading A Crown Imperiled, the sequel to A Kingdom Besieged, and I know for a fact I've read it before. So I guess I am glad I finally read the first one, even if it advanced the plot so little, I had managed to read its sequel without noticing a gap in the continuity. But other than this, it was a bad book. The only reason to read it is to finish the series without skipping anything.
  10. It's why I chose it
  11. The personality / memory thing Clod shows is because he died with quite a bit of Breath in him.
  12. Wow, I lived the day to see the word subfora used. My life is now complete.
  13. Plot twist! The border is at 2971!
  14. My, my , Reddit is turning into a gold mine of interesting things (and sources to lose sleep and productivity over). The latest discovery - this wonderful cosplay. Go fall in love, folks.
  15. Sooo... We are now ready to raise money and commission fan art as a site, yes?
  16. Not-soon-enough in not-Chicago, not-Illinois. Sadface. If it's an option, bringing a recorder or a smartphone and leaving it on the table with Brandon is fine with him. He also doesn't mind if you find a spot near the table and listen to people's questions and comments - I've been able to slip a question or three this way, taking whatever they asked and asking for specific clarifications. You might even be able to shoot a question of your own if somebody in the line takes their time and Brandon is just sitting there, doing nothing. Finally, staying after the event and quickly firing 10-15 questions for a few seconds each is also okay - it's how I get most of my questions answered. It's best if you can choose only questions whose answers are short - yes/no, few words, a name, etc.
  17. Uh, this is really going to depend on how you want to approach this. The Knights Radiant are the only knights literally named in the Stormlight Archive, but they are not traditional knights. The oldest definition of the word I know of comes from the Latin word for "horseman" (cabellarius) - which, in and of itself, is not directly useful to you, but it gives you an idea about how much the meaning has changed. I say this so you can choose your context well. I don't know how exactly you want to compare the Radiants, but the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that the First Ideal is your best starting point. All of the Immortal Words we have seen so far can be treated as an extension or interpretation of the First Ideal. You could make that the core of your argument, and then use specific Ideals to solidify your point and provide different perspective. Dalinar's visions should prove useful in giving you a more traditional frame of reference, as they are the only place we see true Radiants. You could, of course, ask for a two-year extension on the essay, pointing out that Stones Unhallowed will definitely give you more sources to work with
  18. Well, I did finish The Blinding Knife. Wonderful book, I think I liked it even better than the first one. Decided to postpone Promise of Blood and Mage's Blood and finish Raymond Feist finally. I couldn't remember how far exactly I had gotten (and that's a really bad sign, if I read a book's summary and can't figure out whether I've read it...), so I decided to pick up A Kingdom Besieged, the first book of the last trilogy, and move from there.
  19. Okay, I hear back from Isaac regarding the mechanics behind the creation of each glyph. Bad news is, he and Peter decided not to release any additional information for now. Good news is, there is a good chance this kind of information will probably surface en masse throughout the first 5-book arc. But on a more cheerful note, Isaac did send me much clearer versions of the highprinces' glyphs (or are they glyphpairs? I can't seem to cement my understanding of the terms) from the warcamps map. Some (e.g. row 1, column 2) are almost remarkably different without the smudged ink. You can see them here or in the obnoxiously large (for a forum post) image below:
  20. Sorry, I am a little tired right now, but haven't we been assuming that Ash is Shallash for, like... since the prologue was released? Or was that just me?
  21. Szeth's problems with Lashing Shardbearers probably comes more from how Invested the Plates are, not from their maybe-aluminum components.
  22. If you can Awaken aluminum in the first place, I guess so. But even without the weirdness of aluminum, Awakening metal is pretty hard. Plus, if we are still talking about Shardplate here, I am going to say that it's damnation near impossible to Awaken that.
