Merl crouches down, straining his legs and looks straight at Stefan. Suddenly, he blasts forward, the ground behind him cracks and his light dances on the trees as he is propelled at an incredible speed toward the armored man.

Merl stomps his feet into the stone underneath him, holding his ground and taking a few of the hits. As another attack comes in he attempts to grab hold of Stefan.

“I’m gonna have to yield soon. Dax doesn’t want much more of this. So, show me your best, and I’ll show you mine.” Merl gives Stefan his hand to help him up. He smiles towards Lord Stephen. “The power of the ancient riders is quite majestic isn’t it?”

Merl straightens up, raising an arm, and completely stopping the incoming boulder as if it were a ball. As he looks around at the stunned faces of the nearby camp, he smiles ruefully. “Better end this soon. Dax doesn’t have much longer.” With a CRACK like thunder he brings the Boulder back down, shattering it into pieces.

Merl is surprised at the speed of Stefan’s reactions. “Those garments he wears may be doing more than meets the eye. Keep a shard mind, merl.” He thought As the glow begins again, merl parries the sword instead of going for a swing, and, dropping his staff, continues to dash forward, tackling Stefan.

Merl began the glow again. Ramming his fist into the ground, ripping out a chunk the size of a car, and flinging it at Stefan. The glow fades and he comes in fir another attack to the legs, underneath the rock.

Merl ducked below, twisting in place to face Stefan again, spinning his staff as he does so that it will trip up Stefan when he lands.

“Then let’s begin.” Merl took a deep breath, and his muscles grew tight, like he was flexing every part of his body. No incredible physical change came over him, except that light seemed to start to emanate from him, very faintly. I almost looked like a a great fire was immediately behind him, so he threw shadows against the trees with his every move. He opened his eyes, and SLAMMED his staff into the ground. A crater immediately appeared in a ring around him, spreading slowly like a wave of rocks from the force of his strike. He relaxed, letting the glow fade, and threw himself into a defensive stance.

Merl smiled grimly. “It’s been a long, long time since I’ve gone up against another who even stood a chance. This will be a welcome change.” Merl steps into a stance, closing his eyes and muttering some words. ”the great rainmaker is so distant. This battle will will be a little more difficult without being able to see through his eyes. But he conveys he is ready for the pain of a fight. If I yield, please, don’t prolong the engagement.”

Incredible. So ornate. My staff here is worth boasting about as well. An old splinter, of Kermund thunderstriker’s jaw bone. When I ask Dax for his strength, it tricks the old powers into giving the staff strength also. No matter how much strength I put into a swing, it will not break.

“Merl, herald of Dax, the rainmaker.” He tentatively takes Stefan’s hand. “You are one of these knights I assume? And what are these strange looking leathers you have on?”

“That seems like quite a tale, but I’m not used to these long conversations.” Merl stood up and stretched his back. Then stooped down to pick up his heavy staff. “Usually, when I meet with other riders I engage in a friendly spar. Anyone dare?”

Hmm. What does being a knight entail?
