Sorry if this is something that has already been discussed a lot, I did a search but didn't turn up anything. In Shadows of Self, chapter 16. Wax is stalking Paalm down the street while they are having an earring-aided mental conversation. At one point, Paalm says "You know he's just another pawn." And Wax says "I don't know that." Paalm responds "I wasn't talking to you that time, Waxillium." It's been bothering me since I first read it. If she's not talking to Wax, who is she talking to? It has to be someone with a hemalurgic spike, correct? Could it be Kelsier? It just makes me think of all of the little hints and weirdness that didn't make sense (like Vin suddenly deciding not to go talk to Hoid-the-informant), that were explained in Secret History as Kelsier moving behind the scenes. If it is Kelsier-- what is the context of that line? "You know he's just another pawn." Could we assume that she's referring to Wax himself? Discussing Wax with Kelsier? In which case, Kelsier would be on the scene and interested in Wax (or, at least, interested in Sazed's interest in Wax). Thoughts?

Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
vonnegut replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Okay. I've done re-reading of the rules and I think I'm more solid on what is going on, but please correct me if I'm misunderstanding things. 1) Jondesu could only have survived with Silver Bones, right? And we don't know if that is a town or Elim ability? 2) Ash has claimed Silence. And we don't know if that is a town or Elim role, but probably a town role. 3) Ash is now saying that everyone can PM him to coordinate scans to find the Elim kill. 4) The end of day was a bit nuts, but the whole flow of the day, from what I read was: some back-and-forth retributive-voting. A long silence. Me calling out Szeth who went from super talkative to near silent :/ . Suddenly a flow of Jondesu votes. Just as suddenly, a switch to Ash votes. Ash claims. Everyone falls back on Jondesu. Jondesu is executed but survives due to role/ability. Those are the premises I'm working with-- again, let me know if I'm messing up. My thoughts based on that: 1) I am going to do a scan tonight, and I'm going to scan Ash. I'm very, very concerned that Ash is Elim and is NOT the Silence. For one thing, the role claim came minutes before execution. IF Ash is Elim, that would be a nothing-to-lose gamble that would either a) Save his neck, or b ) flush out the actual Silence. Continuing, IF Ash is Elim, having everyone do their scans according to his instruction would serve a double purpose of lessening the chances that someone would scan HIM and find out that his claim was false, AND letting Elim team know who is being scanned tonight. Am I certain this is the case? Absolutely not. But, I am not ready to just trust. 2) I still think Jondesu is village. Reading over the thread, the double-railroad action that happened, and I'm still not seeing WHY everyone decided to vote for them. If Ash is Elim, then I think Jondesu is almost certainly village. Even if Ash is village, Jondesu could still very well be village. Because, bringing me to: 3) I still feel like Szeth is Elim. And I keep checking myself with, am I just reading into it because I got a twinge early on and now I've got it in my head too strong. Possible. But, he started out SO active and jumping around and throwing votes out there, and being what I was reading in my gut as "if I'm suspecting anyone, it's probably him, based on tone." And once I started focusing on that, he shifted entirely. Here's the weird scenario in my head right now: what if the other Elim are really quiet, and have told him to talk less and let the village pick itself apart. 4) Matrim has me puzzled. I keep pinging on him, but he was one of the most suspicious for me right from the start, and once I start suspecting someone it is hard to stop. I will say that he has been more consistent throughout (way more consistent than Szeth) and those of you who know him don't seem alarmed by his tone or posting style, so maybe that's just him. I'm still suspicious, but trying not to read into his posts with a biased mindset. 5) Illwei/Asaris/Quinn/Archer/Dannex - making substantive posts, and being very active. I'm not seeing anything overtly suspicious from any of them, except that if they are Elim, they are doing a really good job, AND at least ONE of them IS probably Elim, because they've been participating in these sudden shifts in voting. Probably. Unless we have a situation like: 6) What if Elim team has Szeth, Pizza, and FlyingBooks? In which case, they get to laugh up their sleeves while the active town eats itself alive. 7) I typed this while not looking at the player list. Anyone I didn't mention is probably Elim, because when I played this in the past, that's always what ended up happening, LOL. ETA: Okay, I forgot Azmine. Me forgetting does not mean that he's probably Elim (point #7 was mostly me making an inside joke with myself, because that REALLY did happen a lot when I used to play this back in the day). I don't know what to think of him at all.- 892 replies

Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
vonnegut replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I keep waiting for Szeth to say something, but they've gone from "I will talk about anything all day, la la la, maybe I suspect THIS person, maybe I suspect THAT person" to.... has to eat dinner and never return. I'm going to be around here and there today, so this might change, but right now my vote is Szeth. And I think that Jondesu is probably village. After all the discussion last day phase, we had a "let's all hop on Jondesu" moment and then we've stalled out and it seems much quieter. If Jondesu were mob, I think that there would be more discussion prompted, somehow, to try to deflect-- but there isn't, and it feels wrong. Szeth was feeling heat last day, and then Randby seemed to happen late in the day out of the blue to deflect. Szeth was being questioned again early in today's phase, and then pulled vanishing act and now it's all about Jondesu. It's bugging me.- 892 replies

Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
vonnegut replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hello thread. Thank you for not being as long to read as the previous one. Can you further explain this? I would have thought that an Elim would be MORE likely to not post during the night at all, because they'd be busy scheming with the other Elims. The votes so far today are... interesting. And make me worry. The "you voted for me, so I'll vote for YOU" stuff seems like village paranoia, and makes me wonder if there are any Elim involved in it at all. Again I don't know the personalities... but y'all have been doing this for a long time, so would an Elim really be that reactive, rather than playing it cool? However, both the people who I've found to be shady based on tone (Mat and Szeth), are both involved in it with different people :/ Something else that occurs to me in light of the Randby vote, is who was feeling the most heat right before everyone suddenly started voting for Randby? I need to go back and re-read, but if anyone has that info at their fingertips, that would be helpful... Hi Szeth. I'm worried that I'm reading too much into tone and focusing too much on you in my head. Convince me that I'm wrong.- 892 replies

Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
vonnegut replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Good morning. I will be around until 2 (eastern time) and then my availability will be really limited until tomorrow. Not that it seems like much is going on today, anyway. My thoughts at this point: That execution netted us practically no information. I would bet, though, that there are more than one Elim in that vote for Randby. They would likely be enthusiastic about the idea of knocking off a town by execution rather than having to kill her at night-- a no-day-kill would be more likely to benefit the town. (A no-day-kill is possible in this game, right?) Question to everyone who voted Randby: Regretting your decision, or do you stand by it? Since the rationale seemed to be "better to kill an inactive," is that the same strategy you think should be pursued on the next day? Question to everyone who DIDN'T vote: Why didn't you vote? What's your reasoning? Question to Matrim in particular: Well, maybe not a question, just a hard stare. Really, voting for yourself just to say "I voted"? Question to Szeth in particular: Who do you suspect at this point?- 892 replies

I'm about to go to bed, and I don't know how much I'll be able to pop on tomorrow before the day closes, so-- putting in a vote for Szeth Pancakes. Not just as a badminton rival, but as a matter of attitude. I'm reading a level of comfort of "it doesn't matter who I vote for, because I already know who is and isn't Elim." Sorry if I'm wrong! Subject to change tomorrow if more information presents itself, but I didn't want to not vote if I get too busy with work tomorrow.- 892 replies

I read the rules/policies, but wanted to make sure I'm clear... let's say that I have an idea/theory about a line from a book (in this case, Mistborn Era 2 so it would go there) and want to make a topic about it-- but I'm not really talented at original ideas, and I'm pretty new here, so it's very possible it's just a repeat that someone else has already thought of. The only other forum I was part of, using the search function was a HUGE deal-- that people should do a good search, always, before starting a new thread. We were absolute DEATH on repeat theories. While here, in the policies, it seems that necro-posting is more frowned upon. So the question is-- if I do a cursory search, and don't see anything in the first few pages of topics / recent history, should I just go ahead and post it? Or is a more thorough search needed to be sure I'm not repeating something that has already been discussed?

Fair. I don't know any of the personalities here, so I'm just kind of fumbling around blind, lol. For instance, when reading through, I was getting a real "okay, Illwei doesn't seem like someone who is feeling like she needs to hide, that's town-vibe" but then maybe you're always like this :/ Question: We can change votes, as long as we do it before the end of day? Like I could vote someone now, and then change it tomorrow if need be?- 892 replies

Random thought: We're all assuming that the voice Szeth used to hear was a spren. I mean it makes sense, because, Roshar. But what if it wasn't? What if it was a voice *like Nightblood*? (I think that full Cosmere spoilers are okay in here? Tagging just in case, for Mistborn Era 2)

Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
vonnegut replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wow, I am feeling very inadequate suddenly, following an epic poem. Thanks to everyone for the rule clarification... and for answering my question about prior gameplay (those of you who answered). Based on that, I have a twinge towards Matrim's Dice. Just for this answer: That's showing a... cagey unwillingness to self-analyze game play. I'm also eyeballing Szeth, because of the attitude-- an "I'm bouncing around suspecting this person, or this person, no real reason" and seems to be having too good of a time, lol. I could very well be wrong. But that's generally how I get caught out when *I'm* Elim... because I'll be having a lot of fun and be struggling to come up with plausible reasons to pretend-suspect people. Long, long, long ago (like 2005), there was this TV show called "Lost," and I was on a (major) forum that began through discussion of that show. The forum is gone now (for very bad reasons that I'm still very upset about). This is actually the first forum I've joined since that one ended (which was about 9 years ago), because I wasn't ready to try to love again.- 892 replies

Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness

Umm. You? You seem to have it together. Hello everyone. I'm going to act really hard like I know what is going on, but right now just trying to catch up in this thread. I've played Mafia before on another forum, but it was a lot less complicated (none of the extra roles, abilities, items) AND it was like... 10 years ago... and I'm suddenly questioning myself really hard for throwing myself into this. Let me know if I'm screwing up... And if I can ask this-- what are the things you *can't* do/say? When I played before, any communication outside of the thread was absolutely forbidden unless you were Mafia, so PMs being allowed is throwing me for a loop. You can't say any information from your role PM that the game-runner sends, right? I'll be back later this evening and will try to finish reading and make a vote. In the meantime, since I don't know any of you... if you played Mafia in the past, and were assigned a "Mafia"/Bad-Guy role, what mistakes did you make that led to you being found out? How are your actions as Mafia different from your actions as Town?- 892 replies

Dalinar and the Contest (read with caution)
vonnegut replied to Procrastination's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm in the middle of my first full SA re-read since RoW came out, and *just* last night made it to RoW, so my opinion might change as I go through it again, but my opinion of Cultivation... she is NOT a good guy. The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. And Cultivation itself is not necessarily a benign force. Neutral *at best.* My impression (which again, may change) is that she manipulated the death of Rayse not out of kind intent, but out of self-preservation-- he was not shy about his desire to kill her. And, because I just finished Oathbringer, this is fresh in my mind, and (forgive me if this is a "duh" that everyone already knows) when Rayse is confronted with Dalinar raising up Honor's Perpendicularity, he doesn't say "No, I killed you," he says "No, WE killed you." And I'd been assuming or had read somewhere that the "we" was Autonomy, who is buddy-buddy with Odium anyway. But doesn't it make more sense that the "WE" is him and Cultivation? Taking out Honor together, and then turning on each other? I'm sure this has been brought up before, and it seems to fit the pieces together. Cultivation may not even disapprove of Todium's aim to "SAVE" the Cosmere, as long as she thinks that Todium would not include her on his kill-list (he will, though).- 55 replies
