  1. Cycle Two - When They Come Forge Tabowtit and Stick faced each other in the village square, each flanked by two accomplices. The remaining inhabitants cheered them on as the pair began beating each other into the ground for the privilege of being cleared of suspicion for another day. Neither combatant could gain the advantage, nor did they show signs of exhaustion, and soon their respective attendants grew restless. Nobody in the crowd could see which of the four moved first, but within seconds all six of them were engaged in an even more bloodthirsty brawl than the original ruleless bout. The crowd cheered louder, no longer caring who was innocent and who was guilty. Emboldened, Forge threw aside two of his opponents and closed in on Stick. “Wait!” Stick cried. “I’m the skaa seeker.” Forge hesitated for a crucial moment, his thoughts slowed by his bloodlust. Those seconds of delay proved fatal as Stick and her allies recovered, surrounding Forge and crushing him between them. He fell to the ground and didn’t get up. ~ What a mess. A whole day of tracking down her informants and the ministry’s collaborators only to result in a hopelessly muddled tangle of accusations, pointless theatrics, and one unwarranted death. In all the frenzied commotion, it had been easy for Scarthroat to slip into the village and blend in with the spectators to Forge’s demise. He hadn’t even been interrogated before his accusers had struck the final blow; careless error or deliberate silencing? A quick end meant everyone would have to start over tomorrow with little information. Any confession made under coercion was worthless of course, but observing the crowd’s reaction might have revealed those who cared too much or too little about Forge. Plus, the joy of slowly exsanguinating someone was its own reward. ~ Reve stumbled into the misty night, following the pull of impending death. The day’s events had been disappointing; she hadn’t been able to reach Forge’s body before his shadow moved on. A missed opportunity to add to her numbers that she would rectify tonight when the ministry attacked. Infiltrations of Tyrian Falls always involved assassinations come nightfall, and her sense that someone was about to die was activating right on cue. She loosened her connection to her body and it collapsed to an inert clump of meat hidden in the darkness. She’d be able to watch safely from here. ~ Cloudy Copper had forgotten the way home. He’d etched a map on a copper ingot to help him remember, but he seemed to have lost it. He had a vague memory of hitting someone with it, the dead man with the forgettable name. Regardless, he’d gotten lost enough that he’d find his home just as surely as his map. He just had to keep wandering these misty roads until he stumbled across either of them. He paused, having a better idea. He could burn gold until he found a version of himself that had a good memory and sense of direction. He searched through alternate self after alternate self until at last he found someone with the proper skills. Aha! He remembered where his house was! He took one confident step in the right direction and tripped over something large and heavy in the dark. A body? Before he could get to his feet, the mists dispersed around him, revealing a figure in a mistcloak wielding a glass knife that reflected what little starlight reached them. One slash and Cloudy Copper fell all the way to the ground. The mistcloaked figure cut him one more time and disappeared into the mists without checking whether Cloudy was still breathing. If they had, they would have noticed one of the two bodies getting up and walking away, her consciousness expanded by one more shadow. Archer has been exed! 2. Cycle One - Whatcha Gonna Do? Scarthroat always got the solo jobs. By the time she’d convinced everybody that she was a trustworthy member of the mob, not just a minor noble heir, nobody had wanted to work with her. At least she was feared enough that only the mob boss could give her orders. She still remembered the delightful looks on her family’s faces as she’d sent their lifeblood flowing into the dirt. Word of her unhesitant willingness to execute unarmed prisoners had gone a long way towards convincing the mob that she was both loyal and not to be trifled with. Her fingers traced the jagged scar where she had once sliced open her larynx to prevent her parents from selling her off to have some noblewoman’s children. Yes, her parents had deserved death. Her younger brothers had simply been in the way of what she wanted. Not that she had gained everything she wanted. She still had to follow orders of one too many people. Iron Acey had sent her to this isolated town of Tyrian Falls alone with no information and no instructions other than that he wanted the metal in this town for himself. She frowned, idly filing her right nails blunt and her left nails to a point with a glass knife as she waited for a report from her first informant in Tyrian Falls. She couldn’t rely on that idiot Copper Copper. The fact that other members of the mob had been sent to Tyrian Falls was not unexpected, but she’d hoped they’d at least be competent. One of them had even tried to flirt with her, which he should have known better than to try. She’d been nice and let the man live with just a flat slice across his neck in exchange for the information that his squad had been sent by Tin Capone, the mob’s new boss. If he was lucky, the wound wouldn’t even scar. She harbored no illusions that Tin Capone would be a better boss than Iron Acey. She’d observed him to be unpredictable and violent, even by her standards. She had a reputation for having a voice like broken glass and a personality to match, but broken glass was simple. If someone tried to touch it, they’d be cut with just the right amount of force to discourage future attempts. Capone killed randomly, with little concern for the long term consequences. He’d made a mistake in claiming the top spot through murder. Those who gained power through force lost it just as quickly without a stable base of support, and Capone evidently hadn’t been able to round up anyone better than Copper Copper and his woefully inexperienced followers. She’d use them to gain a foothold in this town and then discard the ones who weren’t willing to swear undying loyalty to her once she gained enough boxings and recruits from Tyrian Falls to build her own base of operations. By the time she was ready to challenge Capone for leadership, the entire mob would be behind her. She sighed as she finished her filing with no report in sight. First she had to hope her informant and whatever allies they could scrounge up could do their jobs. It wasn’t worth the risk to enter the town yet if it was as murderously paranoid of strangers as Copper Copper claimed it was. If this was how depending on others felt, perhaps she was better suited for solo work after all. ~ Reve woke up, her stolen body leaping to attention. Tyrian Falls was under attack yet again. Time to add more spirits of the dead to her consciousness. Even with so few villagers, any violent deaths would be a blessing. ~ Welcome to Mid-Range Game 63, Cycle One. You can thank the IM, @Devotary of Spontaneity, for the above lovely writeup, and if you have any concerns or trouble with other players, please direct them to her. If you have not yet received your GMPM, please PM me. It may be a bit old in your inbox though, so check thoroughly. Some Things to Note: There is an Inactivity Filter of two cycles. 3. My game should be over in time not to mess too much with this. I'll sign up as Crazy Hary. Does 'directly causes' mean only if there's a 100% chance of insanity, or does, for instance, the spellbook still have a 20% chance of insanity?
  4. Decent bit under 48 hours remaining until signups close! Edit: Also a final request for anyone who is willing to Co-GM for this game. PM me if you are interested!
  5. I offer my Invisibility Cloak of Second Most Suspected. Use it at your own risk.
  6. I'm quite a fan of the water method. If float: Witch, if witch, burn. If sink: Hooman, if sink, drown. No matter what, the accused is no longer a problem.
  7. Well, I might want to be a paladin (more likely a bard though), but I would more care what they're the god of than what their name is.
  8. But you get converted to the pseudo village faction! Noted though.
  9. Latest submitted takes priority. It fails. Regardless of time submitted, the one that is not targeting the Mobborn is chosen.
  10. This sounds cool to me.
  11. That's the mystery here. But let me explain fully how the sentence isn't structured to apply what your saying. “So far as I can tell,” he said, his voice growing very soft. “I’m sorry, Tress. I can’t let you face the Sorceress. I can’t. For your own good, you see.” Ah, those words. I’ve heard those words. I’ve said those words. This is the first bit, before "I don't trust you" is ever said, Hoid says that he has said those words, referencing For you own good. If he was saying what you claim, he'd say something along the lines "something very similar to those words." The words that proclaim, in bald-faced arrogance, “I don’t trust you to make your own decisions.” This is him saying that the "it's for your own good is proclaiming "I don't trust you," not that he has said "I don't trust you. The words we pretend will soften the blow, yet instead layer condescension on top of already existent pain. And this is the only part that comes after the comparison, as such it's the only part that could logically be referencing those words, yet how could the equivalent of 'I think you're stupid,' ever be intended to soften a blow? "It's for your own good" is used in that manner all the time, but, like he says, really means nothing of the sort. Like dirt on a corpse. Oh yes. I’ve said those words. I said them with sixteen other people, in fact. So, since none of those sentences can logically be referencing the "I don't trust you," sentence, why would this one sentence go against the grain of the rest of the paragraph, referencing a throwaway line instead of the single thing he's been talking about for the last two paragraphs? But yes, technically, I can't know you're correct until Dragonsteel comes out, pretty I can be pretty sure that you are. And, you yourself presented your own opinion as fact to the original person, so you can't fault me for doing the same thing but with moe evidence behind it.
  12. That's not correct. He says that the words "it's for your own good" proclaim "we don't trust you to make your own decisions." Here's the full passage:
  13. An activity filter of two cycles is being added! Anyone who does not post for a cycle will be @ed, and if they fail to post for yet another cycle, they will be replaced or, if no pinch-hitter is available, they will be removed. The rules in thread and in the doc will be updated to reflect this.
