  1. I'm not sure what Leshwi's title is, but I think Brandon has said that "stormblessed" is just a Rosharan term for "very lucky"?
  2. All the options have too many "R" and "L" sounds for me to pronounce them easily This has my vote.
  3. Hi everyone, I'm curious if any of you have read Stormlight in a non-English language? I wonder how things like the shard names, or "voidbringers", or spren were translated. For instance, in a Spanish translation, does a windspren become a vientospren? Or things like crem, chull, parshmen, or even "journey before destination" etc. I speak some Turkish and Spanish and I could not imagine translating the Knights Radiant order names into either language...like what is an Elsecaller?!
  4. I've been fascinated by Shinovar since the Szeth prologue. Nothing about it makes sense. Somehow they were training with honorblades while the rest of Roshar was like "lol what is a knight radiant? Is the stormfather a herald?"...warriors are supposed to be the lowest of the low in Shin society yet they've made multiple attempts in the past to conquer Roshar...and why do they revere stone?!
  5. I love this theory even if it's mostly speculation. (Or rather, because of the speculation. Roshar as Adonalsium's shed, and also the reason for the shattering? There's no evidence for either yet both feel...plausible.)
  6. This makes me wonder if singing the tones of Odium and Honor, with a particular Intent in mind, would create something other than the rhythm of war? Raboniel and Navani were both preoccupied with the "war" aspect of things, which perhaps influenced their interpretation of the rhythm.
  7. Thanks for the welcomes y'all. And I've always been fascinated by biochromatic breath, because it's such a disturbing source of power. It's almost designed to encourage unethical behavior?
  8. My least favorite? Oof. I'm inclined to say Lift, just because I find her narration somewhat annoying . But I don't have anything against her as a person, in fact I like seeing her from other people's POV.
  9. People are unique. Put two different people through the same trauma, and they might respond in completely opposite ways. Like sometimes I can't understand why other people operate the way they do, but that doesn't make it their feelings any less legitimate.
  10. People experience gender and sexuality differently based on their particular backgrounds. As with Shallan, one can repress anything if traumatized enough, and if you grow up in an environment where being lgbt is stigmatized, then you can subconsciously train yourself to ignore your own desires, or explain them away as being platonic, etc. This whole thread seems to about how one particular lgbt character cannot possibly represent the experiences of ALL lgbt people. And that's fine, it would be an impossible task anyway.
  11. Ha! Well "redemption" doesn't have to mean "Moash suddenly turns into the most morally upright person ever and the people he hurt and betrayed all love him now"; that seems quite unlikely (and would be disappointing tbh). But I'm certain that Moash has to come out of his Odium-induced emotional numbness and really, truly come to grips with what he did, especially how he attempted to bait Kaladin into suicide.
  12. Aw, really? You might be right, considering all the other plot points going on. But I would love to see Venli and the surviving listeners reconnect to their lost history with the help of Leshwi, and explore what a thriving community of singers looks like, away from the influence of Odium. I actually think that this could be a crucial part of establishing peace between the humans and singers on Roshar, because as of now, most singers don't have an option other than Odium. They could try to fight with the Knights Radiant, but as Rlain shows, it's hard to integrate into human society.
  13. One of the themes of Stormlight really seems to be—it is never too late to become a better person. I love how you described flashback Venli's personality as cowardly, resentful, jealous and quiet because it's so true. She doesn't seem to have many redeeming qualities...yet when confronted with the results of her actions, and encouraged by Timbre, she does change for the better. And "better" doesn't just mean she turns into Eshonai 2.0, someone brave and outgoing etc. Venli is still Venli, afraid and hesitant, but she now believes in doing what is right. It's somewhat like Dalinar's Oathbringer flashbacks, I think. You see Dalinar at his worst and his lowest points, and then you witness his transformation. Since Venli is a quieter character, her highs and lows are not as intense as Dalinar's, and I think that's why Dalinar's transformation is more appreciated among the fandom.
  14. Hi everyone. I've been camped in r/stormlight_archive ever since Rhythm of War dropped, and I figured I should make an account here. I've read Mistborn eras 1+2, Elantris, Warbreaker etc but Stormlight definitely is my favorite Sanderson work. (I've never actually written on a forum like this so I feel oddly nervous about the formatting?) I'm most interested in the listeners, their history... and their future too. I feel like I was one of the 5 people in the fandom who enjoyed Venli's RoW chapters, but her story really resonated with me. Oh, I also like Szeth, Taravangian (in his sentimental moments), and all of the Heralds. I like pretty much every character, ahaha. Sanderson is so good at maintaining a large and distinctive cast of characters.
