  1. Borodin was still frozen. If the mayor is dead, that means-that means that I've failed. "B-but when?" he asked, shocked. "How?" How did they know?
  2. Harris looked at Vapor in awe. "It's you!" he said with wonder.
  3. Borodin became paralyzed, trying to process this new information. Dead? But that means... he stayed silent for a moment, considering the implications. He had heard a lot of noise the previous night, but he had assumed it was only a loud party or something along those lines. "Are you sure?" he asked. He wondered if this strange man was pulling one over him.
  4. Borodin froze for a minute, trying to think. After waiting a few seconds too long, he blurted out the truth: "I'm going to see the mayor." He tried once more to make his way past the man and his accomplice.
  5. Borodin began to panic, and his hands began to sweat. "I'm sorry sir, but I'm in a hurry! Please, just let me pass. I don't want any trouble." As he spoke, a loose paper began to make its way out of Borodin's pocket and into the open air.
  6. "Thank you," Harris said. However, as he began on his way, another hamster fell from the sky, this time landing on Fred's head. "Well, Fred," Harris said, laughing. "It seems that you may have gotten yourself into quite the situation."
  7. Borodin closed the door behind him, making sure to bolt it behind him. He looked cautiously looked around, then strolled into the town, trying to act natural. He walked for a few minutes, then realized how stiff he was being. Relax! he told himself. No one can ever be suspicious of you. Or else- he stopped himself before he lost his cool. However, after a few minutes, the thoughts returned. They're all staring, watching you. Watching, waiting, wondering. Everyone knows. Everyone knows everything. They're only waiting for you to make a mistake, waiting for you to reveal to everyone that you are- "Shut up!" he yelled in his mind. He tried to stay focused on his mission. He repeated it in his head: Get to the mayor. Collect information. Then leave without attracting any attention. Seemed simple enough, but Borodin had struggled with simple tasks in the past. He struggled with himself, trying to keep his emotions in check. He remained engrossed by his thoughts until he ran into a man while turning the corner. "Sorry," he said as quickly as possible, then tried to make his way past the man.
  8. Harris raised his single eyebrow. The other had been burned off recently when he had tried his hand at the hardest task ever created by humankind: making instant noodles. He had failed miserably, but Harris swore he would get his revenge. Someday. "Which way did it go?" he asked.
  9. Harris noticed Fred standing outside the pizza shop. "Hello there," he called. "Have you seen an elephant walking around with a plate of nachos on its back, playing the flute with its trunk?"
  10. No I'm confused. Wasn't this thread made to have Sharders confuse each other while stealing the last post from one another?
  11. Harris walked into a pizza shop when suddenly a giant hamster fell from the sky, smashed the ceiling, and landed on his head.
  12. Why, thank you! I didn't think anyone would actually make a meme! This is pretty good!
  13. Ah, I see. I'm afraid, Vapor, that I must snatch this small victory from you for what I am sure will be only a moment.
  14. If anyone has the time and effort, I would like a meme. I know I haven't interacted with many people, so it's perfectly fine if I don't get one. Here's one for your enjoyment:
  15. I enjoyed reading this post! This was so fascinating! I originally thought it was a (somewhat) simple question, but now I'm reassessing! This discussion absolutely captivated me and completely altered my thinking on the subject. Thanks to all for your thoughts!
  16. Thank you! I'm actually not sure which chapter it was; I know it was in Words of Radiance, and Kaladin was not feeling terrific, and it really hit home for me. Since then, I've already finished Words of Radiance and am now about halfway through Oathbringer as I'm a pretty fast reader.
  17. Does anyone have any critique? I'm always looking for feedback about my playing as well as any suggested ways to improve. Any comments are welcome and encouraged.
  18. Would someone care to explain what the point of this thread is? Also, haha, this is literally every conversation between me and my sister.
  19. Is music (or some aspects of music) relevant to this definition? By your description, a word is a noise that is used to tell information to someone else. I think that music definitely qualifies to be considered a word, at least while adhering to your current definition.
  20. I'm heading to bed now. Thanks to you all for your thought-provoking questions and posts. Until tomorrow! ;)

  21. No problem! I enjoyed thinking about it! Thanks for creating this thread! It was really helpful for me to understand it; I didn't really have a concrete comprehension over "truth" before I wrote this and thought it over.
  22. In my opinion, there is a distinction to be made between scholarly truth and personal truth. In my own definition, scholarly truths are ideas that are fixed in reality and are not questioned at the time of their prominence. This definition encircles ideas such as equations, which include simple concepts like the addition of two and two, which unquestionably equals four. This idea is logically sound and cannot be argued upon by any scientific means. On the other hand, personal truth is one’s belief in something that they hold to be correct. They maintain this statement so strongly that they don't feel the need to question it at all. This truth is part of their identity and their fundamental views about life. They believe that this truth is unshakeable and unwavering; nonetheless, over time, peoples’ personal truths may begin to shift. This is comparable to a child’s opinion on their favorite color. Upon being asked their favorite color, a child may respond, unhesitating, that blue is their favorite. However, during the next few years, they may discover that they enjoy looking at the color red. If the child is asked if he likes the color blue during this period of change, he will probably respond that blue is still his favorite, although perhaps with some delay. One’s once steadfast and concrete confidence may weaken into a smaller, more abstract idea that has less of an impact on a person’s opinions: this is exemplified by the metaphor given above. As the influence of this truth on personal ideas is minimized stronger “truths” come to be more prominent in a person’s set of ideals. Eventually, as in the child's favorite color metaphor, one's favorite color may change to red when it was once blue. This cycle continues over a person’s life, and different opinions and “truths” replace each other in an endless sequence of change. I am of the opinion that different people have different personal truths. One may find themselves believing that they are a shy person. They repeat it constantly to themselves until, eventually, this becomes a personal truth for them. Another may have the belief that they are confident, and this may become a personal truth for them. These ideas may change over time, yet a person is always in possession of a personal truth of themselves, whether they like a certain genre of music, or a style of clothing, or have a certain perception about the world. Sorry, this post ran a little longer than I intended. I began to answer with a different opinion in mind, but as I mulled it over, I changed my mind. What do you think, @Condensation?

  24. Welcome, Mal! We're happy to have you! I'm also fairly new, but I can tell you that the community is awesome and kind. This place is generally a great place to be, and we're glad to have you join us.
  25. Ooh, that's pretty similar to mine. My favorite color's turquoise green.
