  1. He completely noticed, and he was immediately terrified, distressed, and... outraged. And he wobbled, but he did not fall. Completely skittering forward, almost falling. A stumble wasn't a fall, though. He was scared now, not just for Janice, but for himself. Something had grabbed his insides, pushed them down into a little ball, then messed with his footing. That creepy lady. Did the headmaster know? That she'd tried to hurt a student?
  2. He dodged around her shortly. "Sorry, Ma'am! I need to get back to the training hall!" He assumed it was someone with an invisibility aura.
  3. He huffed, then stomped away from her. He still wasn't done in the training room. The second he was through the door, he was sprinting. He had to warn Cadenza that this other girl was after her, for whatever reason.
  4. "I know that you're trying to get me to lie to her so you can get close to her, and I think that's enough," he said, stubbornly defiant. "You come in here hiding your face and all, getting special favors from the headmaster, then ask to get close to my friend-" he shook his head. Well... Maybe she wasn't his friend. But it wasn't right, and this girl was demanding too much. "I'm sorry I even told you she was here," he said stalwartly.
  5. He wrinkled his nose. "That's the point, isn't it? If she doesn't feel safe around you, then she should know that you're near. It would be unfair and cruel to lie to her so you could get what you want from her."
  6. He pursed his lips, frowning still. "I'll tell her you're looking for her. But she should know who you are. Otherwise that's creepy."
  7. “Who’s asking?” He asked saucily, crossing his hands stubbornly. “I don’t know ya. Why should I sell out my friend if I don’t even know what ou want?”
  8. "We only sparred," he said, his face still embarrassed.
  9. His face went through an indecipherable range of expressions. “Oh-uh. I thought-! I didn’t know that she- God, I must have sounded like a complete idiot!”
  10. “Who’s asking?” He asked warily, putting his hands on his hips, like a brave guardian.
  11. ((Yes)) ”Oh, you must mean the really-“ he cut off, then blushed. “Cadence! She’s really powerful.”
  12. “Nope!” He said. Cadenza, after all, had introduced hersef with a nickname alias. “Plenty of newbies milling about, though, and more showing up by the day, if you’re looking for someone.”
  13. “So why’d ya wrap yourself up like a mummy? Just dye your hair and wear a baggy band hoodie or somethin’,” he explained, completely unaware of her skin patterns. “You look like a toilet flushed wrong.” Oh. Oh dear. “Sorry-“ he said quickly, not wanting to offend another student. “My mouth runs away without my brain, sometimes.”
  14. "Why are you dressed like that?" he asked, and was unable to keep some of the amusement from his voice. He was a kid, after all, and couldn't help being impetuous.
  15. ((All my NPCs are characters with depth. This is the boy who fought Cadenza earlier. Depending, my NPCs can have small or large roles.))
  16. The boy, a red haired, freckled child with glasses, sauntered along until he came to the office. He gaped at Trace, as if he wasn't sure if he should laugh at her getup or not. Was it a costume? Or was it some intimidating thing? She was shorter than him, at least, but he wasn't sure if she could hit him hard if he laughed. And if the principal had something to do with this, he shouldn't get involved. "There's a pass here for- for her, I guess?" Corwin said, gesturing at Janice.
  17. He raised an eyebrow, then held up a waiting finger. It was silent for a moment, but then a young boy skittered up. "Yes, I can take that to the front desk for you," he said, as though he'd been part of a conversation that she hadn't been able to hear.
  18. He nodded, then stamped a piece of paper. "Take this. It is a temporary pass, pending consideration."
  19. He nodded his head. “You may have safety in this city, but you are not welcome in this school, and may not be privy to these plans. Your friends are welcome. But I cannot trust that you are not being used.”
  20. ((So, he would totally be open to literally everyone else, but he doesn't trust Trace. For, as Mrs. Weasley aptly puts, "Don't trust anything that you don't know where it keeps its brain."))
  21. "Then how do you have agency? How can you manifest without a source, without using your lingering energy in its entirety, then fading? You have a source, and I doubt that your soul is source enough to power a magic this strange or strong. I will not trust the lives of these people into the hands of a callous killer."
  22. "If you do not know how or why, then you are not free," Vespyr said simply, "And I cannot have you here, or it would risk the safety of everyone here."
  23. "I want you to tell me the science, the technology, exactly, behind why you are able to present yourself here and now," Vespyr said, "I need to ensure that you are not a risk." She would notice a gigantic colosseum-type arena, with at least twenty pairs of people currently battling. More lined the walls of the arena, waiting for turns to fight or resting from fights they'd just completed. The area had a layer of sand at least three inches deep over earth; there was no real wood or concrete floor. The arena was open to the sky. Where most arenas would have decoration or embossments, the place looked weather-worn, angular, and strange.
  24. ((Simple! Vespyr took over a city with a show of force and is making a school to train an elite force of peeps to go up against the queen. Come join the party!))
  25. "I don't have to do anything," Vespyr said plainly. "You are likely being used in your dormant state as eyes for the Queen, with or without your will or knowledge. I will not trust you with faith or knowledge, not while your body is under her control. We both know the extents she can go. Ask yourself, why are you somehow able to manifest without form? Why are you urged to hunt me down? Has she sent you after Janice, yet? You might trust your resolve, but can you trust that you are not being used? And can you even explain the science or the magic behind your miraculous appearance?"
