  1. The soldiers, panicking, drop their crossbows and pulls out their knives- which seem perfectly normal. The soldier slashes at you with his aforementioned knife.
  2. "Fire!" Fortunately, but unknown to you, a great number of factors saved your lives. First of all, the most poorly trained soldiers are sent to the disposal centers, and they were certainly not trained in crossbows, causing two of the soldiers to just completely missed. Secondly, while the bolts were magically impressive, the crossbows themselves... Well, one of the other soldier's crossbows immediately jammed. And the final soldier, the one speaking and obviously the leader, aimed for Isati. He got, and his statement that it works on ethereal beings was correct, but it left out some vital information. It skims her stomach, and a black spot begins to spread outward, before promptly stopping before getting too big. Hurts a lot though.
  3. "Ahaha, you think we have time for a duel?" Says another of the soldiers, who gets a quick glare from the original speaker. "This is your final warning. Surrender."
  4. "We have no requirement to tell you the effects of our weapons. And these bolts have been confirmed to work on ethereal beings. Surrender now."
  5. "If you require incentive, death by disposal is far less painful than death by these umbral bolts."
  6. "Surrender or we will be forced to open fire!" Says on of the guards. "You are to be disposed and are not authorized to leave this facility!"
  7. "No, it isn't important. We should just get a move on and get out of here, yes?"
  8. As you run down the hallway, the things from behind you stop growing louder but doesn't really get any quieter- it seems you've managed to barely match whatever it is that's chasing you. However, you quickly run into another issue: what appears to be a small blockade. It seems like the lower part of the wall has slid out into the hallway on both sides to act as cover, and a quartet of guards. These, however, don't have the same acid guns as the guards encountered earlier, instead holding what appears to be repeating crossbows, with bolts that appear to have intricate patterns burnt onto them. He raise them and begin to aim right at you.
  9. "Wha- oh, whatever. I'm pretty sure there would of been some evidence of agriculture magic when digging up artifacts and writings, unless you deleted all evidence of magic as well, which I severely doubt. Anyway, let's head back home. Lilliana, want to come?"
  10. "Uh, yeah. And I thought we agreed... Um, anyway, could I ask you some questions? I'm looking for someone who was a previous tenant of this house, who went by the name Selene."
  11. "..." "Yeah, you're full of it. First of all, the Eiffel Tower was built long after magic was taken away and no one thought it was real anymore either. Secondly, 'Wieldable' vs "Unwieldable' is a dumb distinction since there were plenty of people who wielded magic and certain types of magic that went away that everyone could wield. Third, there's no way you've read the internet in that time period since you and the internet haven't coexisted for that long, so stop lying to me. Fourth, kingdoms lived off sharp sticks and farmers because there weren't many people back then, and most people farmed, and there was this thing, called surplus, that literally allowed civilization to happen. And finally, a question: how deeply can you explain magic using the laws of physics?"
  12. "Barely remember it. Everything past... a couple hundred thousand years...? Is very fuzzy. Even the GREAT AND POWERFUL Jaxothe cannot contain that much information. I would need to get my phylactery to remember everything, but that would be rather difficult."
  13. Meanwhile, the sounds are still growing louder while they argue. In fact, you can now see some faint lights coming from the directions of the whatever they were. Suddenly, an especially loud roar echoes through the hall to you, malice and pain in it's tones.
  14. "Hmm... Luxsprites... They sound familiar. Hmm... Oh, I remember! I met a luxsprite, once. And they started blabbing on about 'peace' and 'justice'- it was disgusting!"
  15. "Wait, how do you know anything about technology? When you left, the most advanced technology we had was agriculture!"
  16. "Uh... yeah. That's a given, since we didn't go back to monkeys when you took away all magic. There has to be some distinction."
  17. "What's wrong now? Technically it's not magic. It's using water to limit a fire."
  18. "Ok then. Don't use magic. Just conjure up some big machine that can do it for us. If you can't do that, just invent some weird new element and says that it powers the machine and that's what makes it work.
  19. "Yeah, but it's pretty accurate. I would really, really like an absolute guarantee, since it's literally the end of the world. Secondly, why are you so confident that the magic cap will be a bad idea?"
  20. "Have you ever heard of Murphy's Law?"
  21. "First of all, why did you lie about that guarantee?"
