Yes, but with this sort of proves that you can have sort of the same magic effects with same name but different origins. The Eila Stele might refer to the use of any powers as surges (maybe also Awakening or Allomancy if it had appeared for them), but I can't find if the surges/word surge pre-dates human arrival or not.

We do know Hoid does some Lightweaving without having bonded a Rosharan spren - so the "surges" are available without that specific Nahel bond! But then again, Hoid is weird and might be the only one with it..

I guess we'll get more in Warbreaker 2 (Nightblood)! It's a darn long time untill we get that though, currently rereading Warbreaker to see if I can pry some more out of it

That's even harder to answer, as most are good in themselves or at least carry a purpose! None really come to mind, except maybe for Amaram who just seems so self-centered.. What about any of you?

I guess one could convert any kind of investiture into another in a way similar to E = MC^2, so conversion would be possible. I think that is inferred with the quote on mechanical means of powering the Awakening with another source of Investiture, meaning a conversion fabrial is technically possible..? Thanks for the good answers though, one really got to admire the entire connectedness of the Cosmere..!

Cool, I'm curious about the conversion rates. I always thought Vasher had found a way of drawing in stormlight or Commanding a sphere to give up its stormlight.. But you do have a point!

I guess I'll have to be better at googling/trawling the WoB..! I wonder if Brandon actually meant converting from one form to the other, we know that Vasher feeds on Investiture as a Returned but I don't think that necessarily means he is turning into Breath. Question still stands on the amounts though, but I guess we don't know much about the different "sizes" of Investiture? How many marks of Stormlight equals one Breath and so on... Trapping Seons seems like a mighty evil ting to do! Also, what gemstones would that require?!

So, fabrial are powered by stormlight which is a form of investiture and Breath is also a form of investiture. Could a fabrial be powered by Breath? If so, how much would it need? How long can a single Breath sustain a fabrial? Bah, this question may have gotten too big now and should be in another part of the forum - but whatever!

Hi, Bought Misborn on a whim last year and just swallowed the entire Cosmere back to back... Found the wiki underways and let's just say I got drastically hooked! By now I've read Stormlight 1-3 twice and just started Warbreaker to freshen up on all the Awakening before Rythm of War comes out. During that readthrough I figured I'd try the Shardcast as well, might as well swim to the deep end right? Didn't really think I'd need an account as I'm more of a lurker wherever I go, but had to ask a question I didn't find answer for and here I am! (goes in another part of the forum of course!) Might stick around, or might just lurk on - we'll see! Engineer just turned 30 from Norway, just to add a personal note!
