What options did the Listeners, specifically Venli have?
Hoidolasium replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
Was Venli consciously aware of the warnings in the songs? If she was, it was a foolish mistake to convert all of their ruling council into one Form at the same time, since even then they knew that the Five were there to balance out the government. Remember that although on a single plateau, the soldiers were faster in the long run, an extended chase over the Shattered Plains 100% favors the Listeners. They are virtually unaffected by the storms, every healthy adult in their population can reproduce, and in at least some of their Forms, they can cross chasms by jumping. That's why the Alethi couldn't find the Listener base: even if they retreated, once they got two or three plateaus away, the bridges were a much slower method. *Edit* I need to go back for a reread, something here feels off -
Is anybody else worried about Hoid?
Hoidolasium replied to Spren of Kindness's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hoid does seem to be more in control of his personas and lies, maybe because he gets enjoyment out of tricking people, for the most part. If Shallan is anything to judge by, just by Hoid taking the same name in all his disguises seems like a big step up from Shallan's struggle with her Oaths. I'm really just waiting for a Hoid pov where we see his inner thoughts. -
Right, I was thinking that Identity was partially your personality and other traits, not just your relation to Investiture.
-
Can you find the WoB on that? I believe you, I just want to read that one now. It really raises the question of what Identity actually is, since it can't contain your personality as that is almost entirely decided by your upbringing and memories. If you stored all your Identity and all your memories, what would actually be the difference between the two?

I have a few questions/suggestions: 1. Ultimately, is this going to be a platformer or a fighter? 2. If you're adding NPCs, you could add zinc/brass and bronze/copper, obviously the Emotional metals are very subtle but you could maybe open up a mini-hud when you tap them? Maybe each NPC has like 4 different states they can be in, and you can Push and Pull them to change what state they are in. It would probably depend on the type of game what they were, in a stealth game they would be stuff like suspicious and angry, whereas in a fighter they would probably get some debuff. 3. The game works without them, but I was wondering why you chose not to put in the blue lines (I only watched the first demo video and haven't read the full changelog, so that might be wrong) *Edit* 4. If you're looking for fighting mechanics I highly recommend games like Superhot, which encourage weapon swapping but make you feel badass *Also an Edit* Now that I've read the full thread, I wasn't really thinking about RPG elements at all... This is honestly one of the coolest projects I've encountered on 17th Shard! We will watch your career with great interest...

Assuming you don't go into the Beyond first, you could probably take over a body with no Identity, since it wouldn't have a Cognitive Shadow but would still be alive. On the other hand, if they tapped your c-Aluminium, wouldn't they become a clone of you from before you died essentially?

I've been here for a while now, but I only just joined the forums so I could respond to stuff and actually contribute! I like making stupid theories that have been deconfirmed by Brandon, like Soulstamping stuff to gain massive amounts of Stormlight or a new Nightblood. If you see me around, feel free to absolutely destroy anything I've posted, I've only read the Cosmere twice and I'm pretty forgetful. I'm just filling space so I don't have a one-line post.

That all makes a lot of sense, my idea was mostly sparked because I didn't realize there was an Investiture cap on a Soulstamp. I think if the crystals still think of themselves as a separate geological formation, they could theoretically be Stamped, but if the density of Atium is anything like the density of an average metal compared to water, you would still get some short-circuiting. The idea for the Lifeless was to Awaken one, then Stamp it after to say that it had gone through the preservation process (the one idea of mine that didn't require a Stamp to fill an object with extra Investiture). You're right, they might have to stamp themselves every day, but we see that they still have to "exercise", so they're never inactive long enough for the Stamp to fall off. Also, the Emperor's Soul is a little bit of a weird case, since she was essentially making a "code" that contained the entire history and personality of a person. I forgot how weird Nightblood is when making this theory, now that I think about it, it would be a bad idea to hook up Nightblood directly to a big source of Investiture, even if it was possible. Not related to this theory, I've been wondering what happens when Nightblood consumes Investiture (aren't we all), but specifically whether it's being destroyed or being stored somewhere. Is there a WoB on that that I can't find or do we just not know?

The three restrictions that we know of are: 1. They need to be reasonable 2. They need to be detailed. i.e. if you make a superfreezer, you need to know how exactly the process to make it works. 3. Soulstamps are fragile! They can be easily damaged, after which they will be immediately popped off. 4. Changing an object is likely to break off the Stamp. *Spoiler tag is for the sake of condensing a WoB* I was wondering if you could Stamp a sword that was close to Nightblood and convince it that it had absorbed the Breath, since there doesn't seem to be an Investiture cap on Soulstamping. It was pointed out that that would probably damage the Dor on Sel, but would the sword still have sentience? We can see that you can change an object that has been Stamped, otherwise the Emperor's Soul just wouldn't have been possible. I don't actually know where I was going with this, but those are the only limits as far as I'm aware. Otherwise, you have access to the ability to change anything using the Investiture of at least one Shard given enough time and thought.

The parasites that make Aviar Invested have 3 stages to their life cycle: Larva, Adult, and Chrysalis. During the final stage, all the worms in the body converge towards a single point, where they concentrate their Investiture into an obsidian-like shell, which grands futuresight to those that hold it. Ruin meant to kill Vin so that the other sister would be even better to control (since the direct guidance of Ruin would allow for maximum transfer of Investiture). He sent an off-world agent to gain an Aviar chrysalis so that Reen would be able to avoid the dangers of the underground. However, their mother, being crazy, killed the other sister and gave the earring to Vin. When Reen left, he no longer had access to futuresight and was unable to avoid the Inquisitors. During the time between Vin leaving Camon's crew and the Inqusitor slaughtering them all, the chrysalis hatched, spreading the worms through the Scadrian ecosystem and possibly giving giraffes futuresight. I realized rereading the Emperor's Soul that Soulstamping basically has an unlimited reserve of Investiture to use, as long as the change in the Stamped object is believable. That got me thinking about how Soulstamping would effect Investiture-infused objects. For example, if you Soulstamped a gem to say it was left out in a Highstorm recently, would it suddenly be filled with Stormlight? What if you drew out the light and then restamped it? Lifeless could be mass-produced as you could write a Stamp that went through the preservation and Awakening process. Any of the crystal structures remaining in the Pits could be stamped to have produced one last bead of Atium right before the world was reshaped. A cistern of water on Dayside could be Stamped to have been filled, emptied, then Stamped again. Finally, any sword that could have been a potential candidate for Nightblood could have been stamped to believe that it was the one that was filled with 10,000 breaths! Overall this raises the possibility of overstepping many of the limitations of nearly all the magic systems in the Cosmere, as long as they are practiced on Sel. Edit: I said soulcasting a bunch, that's fixed

Reading the Traveler, you're right, he's not just riding some random Fortune-infused impulse. However, his ability to know where to go is separate from the futuresight he gets, at least the way the Coppermind article puts it. It seems like when he uses Fortune to guide himself, he's not in control at all except for his ultimate end-goal of reanimating whomever. The fact that he doesn't always know how going to a place fits into his plan seems to indicate something, maybe just random luck, is at least partially in control. Maybe Andolasium has the power to reach into/influence the Beyond? Judging by how off-limits it's been so far, it's probably a little tinfoil hat for this thread. Also Karger asked that we move discussion off the thread, but I don't know how

On the tip o' my tongue for some years now
Hoidolasium replied to Ripheus23's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Both for quite a while now, I meant as an active member of the forum -
Many people have suggested Hoid will become Andolasium, but what if his method for doing this has been under our noses the whole time? As far as we can see, Hoid travels the Cosmere to follow some mysterious magical impulse, but on every world we've seen, he's at least attempted to gain access to the magic system there. He may be trying to form a strong Connection with each Shard that he will artificially strengthen with some massive source of Investiture, then become the Vessel for all 16 Shards. This might also explain why he's so prominent on Roshar, as he thinks he can manipulate the Bondsmith power of Spiritual Connection to assist in this process. In addition, if Andolasium retains any kind of consciousness in the form of spread-out Investiture, he might be pushing Hoid in this direction. Also as a side note Andolasium retaining consciousness would also make sense for what decides what is the "right" place for Hoid to be.

I made this massive wall of text right when this was posted but couldn't upload until just now, otherwise I would have read through and adjusted it. *Edit* I'm new and just realized I could edit, lol. Also that this second post probably wasn't necessary -
On the tip o' my tongue for some years now

I'd just like to expand on this a little, maybe get a few more options for each Shard. The planes have remained mostly unchanged over the years, although there have been some additions to the cosmology, like the Feywild and the Shadowfell. The new list of outer planes reads: Mount Celestia (Purity and goodness), Bytopia (Productivity), Eylsium (Compassion), The Beastlands (Life and wildness), Arborea (Plane of emotion), Ysgard (Honor and Battle), Limbo (Chaos), Pandemonium (Madness), The Abyss (sadism, basically), Carceri (Prison), Hades (Places w/out joy, hope, or passion), Ghenna (greed), The Nine Hells (Evil, but more lawful), Acheron (War for war's sake), Mechanus (Pure Law), Arcadia (Utopia and teamwork) The 16 outer planes have all gotten mechanical features, which you can use to sort these more accurately. Looking at the revised planes and what they represent, these are probably the best options for each Shard: Odium: He probably isn't represented by Arborea, as the plane is entirely good-aligned. Best options are the Abyss, which mechanically corrupts people to be evil, or Pandemonium, which inflames negative emotions like annoyance and suspicion. Ruin: Limbo, the plane of constant change, or The Abyss, because it's of constant destruction. Dominion: Carceri, the plane of control (probably the least detailed plane), or maybe Arcadia, since the whole plane is an alliance of kingdoms Preservation is definitely Mechanus. Cultivation: Most likely the Beastlands, since they represent untamed wilderness. Honor: Ysgard doesn't really have anything directly to do with oaths and honor, more that it's based off of Norse mythology which is associated with those values. As a replacement I submit Bytopia or Arcadia, both of which have an emphasis on having law and order. Devotion: Elysium still seems like the most likely candidate, but maybe you could make an argument for Ysgard? Autonomy: The mechanical feature of Limbo is letting you control and shape the chaos with your mind, my gut feel says this plane fits but either the chaos or the shaping feels off.. Ambition: Ambition is Ghenna, plane of greed. Pandemonium in the most recent version is a bunch of windy tunnels that drive you slowly insane with no natural inhabitants. Endowment: Mount Celestia seems good for the current shardholder, but one less focused on color and beauty might not fit there. I also realized that the mechanical attribute of Archeron is literally the thrill, so that might link it to Odium, but it is one of the other planes with little information on it in the Dungeon Master's Guide. Arborea, Hades, and Pandemonium don't seem to fit with any of the current shards.
