Quick Fix 59: Bachelor--Roshar edition!

... I also don't much like the position of saving myself from death by attempting to climb the moral high ground. Does that even make sense? I'm going to sleep I can barely type >> -

Yeah I know you... oh you edited it twice I think reverse-tunnel is usually just called a reverse-tunnel (or pocketing, if I was intentionally doing it ). I also don't know how much two players not wanting to vote is a tie together, I'm more looking at the vote on me with Striker that I don't remember much about. And... maybe don't say? Idk, that's above my pay grade. -

That's the thing. This is my Elim mindset, and I don't know why I'm in it, and I think I'm just mentioning Dingo to remind me that this is what I do as Elim and the entire point of my AG8 aftermath post was to try and get out of it... I guess I'm just suspected, and don't have time to go back and check, so am going defeatist in a similar way to E!Ash does. Which I know I do... >> I don't know what I'm doing this game. Maybe it's the Alleyverse getting somewhat active again and looking at that instead of this. Or maybe I just need sleep. Speaking of which, Thaid hasn't been on the Shard almost at all, so I'm... not convinced their inactivity is a result of Elim behavior. Kas give me a second I'm quoting Aman who's on the other page Edit: hi kas I like to think of myself as self-aware enough to know when I'm being suspicious/strange. Plus at this point (3 AM) there's not much I can do to walk out of the ML. I'd like someone who's not me to die, but there is info that can be gained from my flip more than... I guess Exp just ties to Striker and maybe me through Striker. Wheras I connect to Archer as well as Exp. I don't know. I guess what I'm trying to say is not dying would be nice but I can very much understand getting exed here because I'm not engaged and apparently struggling to avoid... open-playstyle-wolfing? Aman give me a second I'm quoting Kas -

Have not slept and am busy. I have tied myself to... a decent amount of people, so hopefully my flip helps. I'll vote Experience in the meantime, and try and stay out of Dingo Mode. In the meantime, I'd recommend looking at the people who didn't say that they were voting on Striker but ended up there. It didn't seem to me that Striker was a large option at the end of the cycle (although I wasn't paying super close attention, as is rather obvious). I'll also add that I didn't vote Striker when I bolded him the first time, I kept my PM vote on Archer. Not sure if that changes or helps or hurts anything, but that's what I did. I should go to sleep. -
"I was born on Scadrial. Old Scadrial - I've heard they've gotten a bit further since I've been gone. So we all knew the story of the Survivor of the Flames. Tin is an easier metal to flare for too long, even if it hurts. But he got healed, so all the side effects were gone. So people followed. Especially one I knew... he burned too much cadmium." Cassie paused. She knew the truth, to some degree. Byron was still alive. He was here, in the Alleyverse. She'd kept an ear out, as she always had, and there was a cadmium savant in the city. But how long had it been? For her, a year or two. For him, a minute? A decade? A thousand years of him skipping around time, stealing a loaf of bread once a year or so? She'd left more cadmium than she'd ever seen on Scadrial. With the travel here breaking time, who knew if he'd even recognize her. That wasn't the problem right now. Byron's savantism was a danger, but one he couldn't function without. Her savantism, on the other hand, needed to be dealt with one way or another. And she should probably keep talking. "He came out alright, but... it didn't always end well. But it was always something you could depend on to help you, to be the edge you needed. Then I went to Roshar. Found this," she said, shaking her Soulcaster wrist, "and found out just how powerful it could be to an Allomancer. I didn't have too much of an idea what I was getting into." That wasn't entirely true, was it? She knew. She knew when she'd burned iron, seen the lines connecting her to the metal lining the skin of the ardent who'd previously had the Soulcaster. She knew when she'd screamed and the ardent turned, fear in his eyes turning to rage as she spilled the secret. She knew when she killed him, and saw the body of a man slowly petrifying himself. It was self-defense, she'd told herself, even as she took the Soulcaster and used it to finish the ardent's transformation. He wanted to kill me, she'd told herself. She didn't tell herself that much anymore. "I knew it was related. I didn't think it would happen this fast, or be this bad, or I thought I could handle it. I still think I can handle it. But I need to know." She needed to know how long she had. And if there was a way to direct the fate this Surge had for her into a... more useful direction.

Yeah, but it feels like they're also half the hospital I'll make a DA character at some point. I'm too attached to Hemalurgy not to. But Cassie doesn't quite share that sentiment, seeing as she was born right when Inquisitors roamed...
-
I'm keeping the option open she might ask Sanax if she finds him. Or... wow, there's a lot of DA-affiliated options. (Also: I am going with the extra targetable amethysts idea. Just seems like a set of weak spots to defend is more balanced / fun, and if the Stormlight is connected to her Soulcaster it gives another incentive not to go all crazy with Soulcasting everything. Plus I can flavor them helping to make her more "human" by being the link to transferring senses / aiding motion / etc.)

It’s a deal! I’ll see if I can find a way to get the shift prepared in this Era, but she probably won’t move over to the new Cassie until the next one. I’d assume even with the help of the Ghostbloods or other characters that the transfer would put her out of commission a while.

I'm glad you like it! For Soulcaster fighting, most of her danger comes from that metallurgic knowledge instead of raw power (although being as progressed a savant as she is, there is some power increase, but likely not as much as a true Radiant). She can create metals like mercury, titanium, and sodium/caesium, along with the more standard Allomantic ones and aluminum. She showcased a bit of it in The Trader's Haven thread. She can create objects out of the air, but it's difficult to do so based on the sheer amount of mass that needs to accumulate. So a giant block of metal above enemies would likely take a ~10 minutes to actually Soulcast, if it's possible at all. (But she can cast it as a ritual!) As for what she can do... Soulcast something on someone's person (or just a part of them) into metal and then Pull on it to keep them close/off balance, Soulcast things into mercury as a super dense liquid and back, making more knives, fortifying defenses. Durability... I'm also not super aware of weapons or actual metal on metal. Watches several videos of men shooting metal blocks I wouldn't say Cassie would be made of an insanely strong metal. It's sort of an amalgamation of everything she's Soulcast, which wouldn't work IRL but works for the Alleyverse... she's not solid titanium, probably most similar to a lighter metal (like aluminum, but not Investiture-immune). So what I'd say would happen is she'd at least get dents, maybe end up with bullet metal embedded in her, depending on how close / centered / strong the shot was; and that would interfere with her movement. She wouldn't drop dead unless a bullet went through the several inches of shielding to hit her consciousness gemstone, but it would slow her down more than someone who can just heal the wound away. (Cassie can heal the wounds, but that needs to be via her Soulcaster and thus actively healing instead of doing something else, and removing aluminum bullets might be complicated.) Bullets / specifically piercing things would likely be much more effective than coins as well. To make things more interesting, I could have some embedded amethysts storing her Stormlight that could be shot out / damaged. Gives a way of stopping her that isn't just death by a thousand dents. Other aspect is what happens if she gets hit by a Shardblade... may just say it'll cut through like it would any metal, with the added note that a torso/spinal shot wouldn't be fatal as there's no Central Nervous System to burn out. A head wound would likely be fatal due to the consciousness gemstone breaking. Cassie can defend against Shardblades with aluminum Soulcasting anyway. As for metallurgy - she's a decent smith in her own right, fully capable of creating a tool or maybe an unInvested armor set without even using Soulcasting. I doubt she could make something like power armor though - she doesn't have any electrical knowledge and only a passing understanding of fabrials (I'm not entirely sure what composes Power Armor... if you mean 40k I don't know what that's made of and neither does Cassie). Also a suit of armor or anything intricate like a gun would likely require non-Invested handiwork anyway, to ensure that it properly fits and functions - she could probably turn a preexisting item into aluminum without fusing the internal structure, but even that may take an hour or so. So I doubt it would be much impact on the plot, or at least the immediate plot, but maybe deserves some points for smithing (and business) skills. So definitely deserves some points in the durability department, Soulcasting prowess is more about knowledge of specific metals + the fact she doesn't have to worry (much) about savantism anymore than any raw power output or significant changes. Could probably elevate the metallurgy / smithing / business skills to a point-worthy level, or have her learn a new set of skills in the Era switch.

I remember reading about this xD Ah, Reckoners RP. I tried, but Blockade was not the character to try and start with. Cassie’s much better.

Quick Fix 59: Bachelor--Roshar edition!
Ashbringer replied to Lotus's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I wasn’t doing it in those games, honestly. MR56 I was too busy panicking over no flips and then the many deaths to be worried about it, and LG83 I was mostly focused on RP until I died N2 with Aman. I think I considered mentioning it in the BT but that was moving a bit too fast. Plus the more the pattern continues the more of an issue I have with it, I guess. -

Dingo says hi I'm feeling different too, although I may have to go back and see what exactly is different. It's not Dingo, but it's also definitely not the brands of chaos I tried early MR56/LG83/BT1. Maybe I'm just sleep deprived. But I don't have a great defense right now, especially with Unknown!Archer. On that note, I need to go do a Bio lab, so have fun figuring out who wants to kill me. -

I decided late with ~5-10 minutes until end of cycle. Mostly self-preservation, but the Ash-Archer joining he tunneled on / doubled down on also piqued my interest. Also my original poke vote wasn’t on Devotary. Never said it was -

Because for 'entirely' different reasons, you've been the first or second priority Elim kill the past three games. That's... annoying. -

Aman - I can’t really tell if you’re reading similar to your Village games. Didn’t pay strong enough attention in tge LG/BT I guess. Mat - why do you assume I know Striker’s alignment? Wouldn’t that make me inheritely Evil? Devo - if I was Evil and wanted Aman to not die, I’d just say so in the doc. Unless you think I’m advocating leniency on a returning player who’s been NK’d repeatedly, for village cred. In that case idk what to say. -

I agree Hmm. Again there's that tie of effect vs intent... but I'm beginning to think that's not as big as it seems. Maybe I should just vote to kill Striker for confusing me so much... -

Ashbringer replied to Lotus's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I don't, really, because from my very Village point of view we came up with the idea independently. But other people seem to think I'm tied to Archer. Mostly Striker, somewhat Kas... maybe Aman? No, not Aman. Aman was quoting Striker, not agreeing with him. I don't know anymore. As for the second part... maybe I've been a little out of it so far. It's been a while since I've really participated in a QF. So I'm a bit all over the place. But I'd also prefer to look bad from an obvious angle than a nebulous one so I have something to bounce off of. -

Well, if Archer is Elim suddenly I get a lot of interesting looks from people. If Archer is Village... I also suddenly get interesting looks from different people. But Archer being unknown doesn't really help me anyway because Essentially Archer's alignment is tied to mine, somehow. And as a Villager I have both a vested interest in exploring his end of the bond, and in figuring out which side I should be defending myself from Plus it's less likely to fall in the split train problem. Like, say, a vote on Thaid would. Something something Archer's doing it for the randomness? I don't know I'm not IDing it this late ... especially because I've missed what S and H are here. Red-vote-suspicion is more just strange, and on C1 I'll take strange. I'm not making any sense, am I... oh well. Also @Elims: please don't kill Aman early again? He's a good thread bro Also Aman's return has had him die C4, then C3, then C2, then C1, and that pattern is kind of nice but I'd rather it stop -

It's late, I have homework to do, and TBH I don't know if I'm going to wake up in time for rollover. Plus my initial target (who may not or may have been Devotary) has posted satisfactorily. I think I'd be okay exeing Archer here. For one thing, big vote train and has something to do with my own alignment (or my own blindness), but a few other things have somewhat stuck out to me. This, specifically. Red text is the default, I just didn't use it on my first post because my point was I wanted more than just Devotary to feel slightly poke-voted and because I'm lazy. I don't know why it would be "interesting" that one person (Striker in this case) declares one vote on one target with red text. But in the spirit of my own idea, I do want to pick other options for suspicions/exe candidates. Thaid is one, for being uncharacteristically quiet (which... they haven't been on the Shard in the past 12 hours, so it's not very strong, but still). And TUA, for making a retaliatory vote on Archer for... something he agreed with? I tunnel TUA a lot, so not too much. Besides, I'm voting on Archer, right? Or at least one of Archer-TUA-maaaybe Thaid I do feel there was some intent difference in my concept vs Archer's, but you guys are right in that I can't retrospectively find what it is. So I guess we'll see. -

I'm going to try and re-value Cassie for what I'm planning to change as the Era shifts (or whatever happens soon with savantism and things). Nowhere near finished (especially because I'm not solid on what events could drive her too this, whether the Ghostbloods/DA are majorly involved, etc) but this is the "endgame" I've got for her.
