  BYU has some advantages, most of that being the spiritual opportunities available on campus, but also some downsides.

  (One of those being what seems like a unfortunately higher rate of members who attend not holding to the standards of the gospel or trying to "cheat the system". I'd like to be clear that I think this is just a small part of the population but soaking and going to Vegas for a weekend marriage did come from BYU)
  
  However, a much bigger deal to me is that the school I plan to attend is considered much better for the field I want to be in and STEM fields in general, it's close to home and I get an automatic 50% off on all tuition, and there is a really strong church presence on campus (Almost all of my mentors in the church work for the university or are/were students there).

  A lot of BYU grads actually come here for their masters and phd's (the rest of them seem to go to stanford).
