I was thinking about the powers Nale uses against Kaladin which aren't connected to the oathpact I think their status as cognitive shadows means they're more susceptible to the effects of perception Because most of Roshar see the Heralds as such incredible and heroic warriors, and have done for thousands of years, I think this has had a direct influence on their battle prowess and increasing their natural skills beyond what would be achievable by pure experience This could also have interesting permutations for other cognitive shadows who have been around for extended periods of time

Sunlit Man Full Book Reactions (Cosmere Edition)
Chalke219 replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Is it possible the planet could be some kind of incubating thing? Lots remains unclear about how the planet functions and that its very odd- I kept expecting a reveal that it would be a dragon egg or something similar I don't have much to support this theory but something at the centre of the planet drawing in all the sunlight and warmth got me thinking along these lines -
Since secret project 4 is about a worldhopper, and I think its long overdue that we see somebody go through the process, wouldn't it be a great way to tie all the secret projects together to have Nomad visit the world's from secret projects 1 + 3? Is this something you'd like to see or prefer it be separate?

Since Taravangian took up the power of Odium, do you think that Odium is now corrupted in some part with Honor? We are repeatedly told that Honor lives on in the hearts of men, men including Taravangian and Cultivation says she chose him because he could wield the power with honor This could potentially be the plan all along, to link the shattered power of honor with the intact power of Odium Interested to hear your thoughts!

Kaladin's role in the back 5
Chalke219 replied to feruchemicalrockband's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ive always (and still do) considered that Kaladin would be a central character all the way through, just potentially with less focus on development in the back half. His trials and tribulations are making him who he needs to be as a central character so he can be a more believable version of that classic fantasy character who is awesome all of the time; Aragorn, Lan, The Bloody Nine (Dalinar could more fit this bill) Or i could envision him more changing the role of the wind runners from basically sky infantry and scouts into some sort of humanitarian red cross type organisation, using their powers to protect all peoples of Roshar (singers included) who need -
Great theory! I can't think of anything that specifically goes against it and the quotes youve found add a lot of weight for me!

I like this but i think it overlooks that Wit thinks he is dealing with Rayse, a known entity to him. We know this not to be the case so we finally know something Hoid does not, and that is truly terrifying My take on the storyteller analogy was that its in reference to Brandon himself, and how he has always said not to expect big crossovers with main characters but the recent Odium development and that Thaidakar reveal leave me thinking otherwise
-
My view was almost certainly he is referencing Kelsier, one of my favourite reveals of the whole book I also got the impression that the epilogue with Wit talking about the need to sometimes lie to your audience for the story to work was analogous to this exact reveal, he's been saying previously not to expect an 'avengers style team up' but it certainly seems to be heading that way now, and I'm all for it Kelsier is my absolute favourite so can't wait for more!

I made this to earn fake reddit points Little did I know I could potentially gain real cosmere titles here!

The Lessie ruse

Fair! Let's hope book four changes your mind!
-
Very possibly it will! I'm hoping that Shallans arc will be similar to Kaladin in book one, just over a longer period so with a hopefully even bigger pay off! I hope
-
I do find it strange the anmount of hate Shallan gets, i can see the problem people have in that she's not particularly action packed but she's such a fascinating character!
-
I couldn't imagine reading it in anything other than the published order! Not that im implicitly against such things! But even though they are individual character view points, they definitely intertwine I'd be interested to see how coherent the book would be by cutting out what will probably be close to a third of the book!

How did Mraize get employed, exactly?

Thay would make sense, in a similar way that Feruchemy is of both Preservation and Ruin I was mostly going from this which gives a totally different tone to the WoB you quoted! "Yfriedd (paraphrased) Given the Sibling, and the Death Rattle about how "Three of sixteen ruled, but now the Broken One reigns", was there a third Shard on Roshar with Honor and Cultivation prior to Odium's arrival? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) RAFO. Good question."
-
So we know there are three shards present on Roshar (I'm thinking as a world here not the system - I know odium is on Braize so bear with... ) We know there will be 3 bondsmiths One bonds the Stormfather and is connected to Honour One will bond the Nightwatcher if my understanding is correct which is tied to Cultivation The other is the sibling which is connected, we assume, with Urithuru - I don't imagine the sibling would be connected to Odium so is there another shard on Roshar that we are unaware of? The sibling is in hiding and Brandon has mentioned a Shard that is actively trying to hide - could this be a connection or is my understanding way off?
-
When was this? Do we have anything solid on this?
-
This makes a lot of sense! I always for get Roshar is a system and not just a planet!
-
Could it be invesiture based? He would have used awakening on Nalthis but wouldn't have used any of Odiums investiture and likely wouldn't have used any of autonomys either Either way I cannot wait for an actual conversation between Hoid and Rayse - I think we're heading that way but then )
-
I'm surprised that there has been no mention from Odium about Hoid being on Roshar as we know there is a pre-shattering relationship there Endowment seemed to know from the letters that he was on planet but Harmony seemed unable to detect him This has had me thinking about what Brandon said about the big scene in book 4 that he's envisioned from the start and i think this could be our first direct interaction between Hoid and a shard since its gotta be coming up and seems like the thing Brandon would cultivate over a long period Thoughts?

Lift isn't weird! She's only awesome I also think she'll end up being a major character later on in the series so I'm foreseeing an epic character arc for her, plus there's the whole mystery of acquiring stormlight through eating If I had to pick a least favourite character it'd probably be.... Zane maybe? But even then it's a tough choice as they're all quite good at least
-
Ahoy! I don't know if i could pick favourites, but stormlight as a series has had me audibly cheering or booing the most so I'd say stormlight, WoR if I had to pick one! Favourite characters are tough too, Kelsier would be my number one, Dalinar and Kaladin close second but as they're so central I'll try and come up with someone a little more interesting... Lift! I love how she massively contrasts the world by being such a fun and carefree character for the most part and I can't wait to see her advancement going forward The only work I haven't yet read is aether of night, which I know is non-canon but still looking forward to it (freshly put on my kindle today) and am mostly looking forward to other worlds getting a little more depth so they can compete with the masterworks of mistborn and stormlight
