Fadran blinked in surprise, then launched himself at the Shades and started poking them with his dagger.

"You can't just nevermind that."

Fadran gestured vaguely at the cluster of Shades. "Umm... yes."

"Now that could be useful. What kind of illusions?"

"You... have?"

"Good. How do you feel about running at a Shade with nothing but a knife?"

"Ooohhhh. That makes more sense. Yeah, but again... acromantulas."

"Yeah, uh... Shades don't die. Currently, the plan is to clear them out from around the portal and get back."

"Great! Could you tell everyone that dinner's ready?"

Fadran gives her a really incredulous glance. "Okay! Knife combat 101. Keep your knees and elbows bent so you can move on reflex. Put some distance between you and your opponent--" he slashed at the Shade just in front of her before it could kill her dead, "so that that doesn't happen. When one comes at you, jump to the side and stab at it; don't face it head-on, because that won't work."
