Fadran smiled. "I'll be back... very important meeting. I mean, there's probably paperwork involved, which is about as important as it gets."
"Come on in." Fadran turned back to Nath. "Exactly how powerful are they?"
"You can come in."
"Well, that man at the stairwell was talking about a resistance, right? Well, you can't have a resistance without something to resist. And somebody mentioned a mafia? And they're not supposed to talk about the magician?"
Fadran walks in. "Daolan was bonded to a withergeist? I remember fighting a bunch of unbonded ones, and those were easy enough, but wasn't there a guy at some point who was bonded to one? The son of the Fallen King or something like that?"
"I'm sure these boys are up to it." Fadran raised his voice for the army to hear. "You guys are up to it, right? Herate didn't hand off an incompetent army, did she?"
"I'm just here for basic education. The other reasons..." Val thought for a moment. "How about I wait to tell you that until after we get out of town?"
Ellis almost didn't stop. He almost kept going.
Almost.
He sat down beside Melody. "Your reflexes are pretty good. Basically all we have to do is drill some technique into your head."
"I see. Well... to win a war, you need an army. But to get an army, you need some leaders." Fadran cleared his throat. "I'm going to need some volunteers to help lead the army... at least until we can get some more experienced leaders."
